Almond pastry.
Cookist: I grew the apples, bought the flour, butter and ground almonds, sugar, vanilla essence, lemon for juice in the glaze and zest in the pastry, apricot jam. The tiny crumbly bits of pastry are gorgeous, really, you are lucky to even get a sight of them.
Strobist: Canon flash on hotshoe as master on max diffusion pointed up with card deployed, handheld 430EX2 modified with velcroed bundle of black drinking straws aimed at front tart, ETTL with Canon's communication system.
Gimpist: Exposures combined as layers, smart sharpened and curved a little etc.
Lensist: Canon 50/1.8 with rather noisy focussing stopped down for DoF. I tried it with the short extension tube, but the magnification was more than I wanted.

Apple Butter Gingerbread is not too sweet, definitely spicy and when topped with honey butter (or apple butter!) A delicious tea time treat.
My theme for this year's A-Z is food. All my previous A-Z projects have had an element of chance involved in them, a tendency towards the Sunday afternoon "Let's wander around and see what we can find that starts with an L". I decided I wanted to do something a bit more considered this year, so I wanted a subject that would allow for the maximum amount of posing, fiddling and dressing.
I don't eat very much fruit. Not through any particular dislike, but more because it never really occurs to me to do so. I have craved an apple exactly twice in my life, and I can remember where I was both times (Manchester and Wales, thanks for asking).
The above are all British apple varieties. The whole apples are (L-R) Jazz, Empire, Egremont Russet. The cut in half and chewed upon one is Tentation.
Should keep the doctor away... right? Wrong. For some reason, my health has been freaking out. I've gone from not sleeping that much, to having a terrible cough & a mix of strep/the flu. I don't know. I wish the old saying was true, because if it was.. I wouldn't have a problem with it.
On Monday my wife's family canned applesauce, pie filling and dried/dehydrated apples. I snapped a few pictures of the process.
Magic Trackpad made it here today, enjoying using it so far but only time will tell if it gets much use over time. It feels very natural to use it for browsing the web and looking through photos - more serious work will still be carried out by my Magic Mouse :)

Incredibly lame reference, but remember Tomorrow Never Dies, where the bad guy has a really thin, light keyboard that he's tapping away on. That just came true for me.
