Ingredients
Crumble:
300g plain flour
175g sugar
200g butter, cubed
Filling:
450g apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1cm piece
1 pinch of ground cinnamon
Method
1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.
2. Place the flour and sugar in a large bowl and mix well. Taking a few cubes of butter at a time rub into the flour mixture. Keep rubbing until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
3. Place the apple in the bowl, sprinkle the crumble mixture on top
4. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes until the crumble is browned
I think it will be better to serve with ice cream, but I didn't because I don't want so much calorie. :P
On a beautiful day's visit to Harpers Ferry I came across a group of folks dressed in period garb. They were demonstrating cooking techniques from the mid to late 1800s. One of the ladies was prepping to make apple cider and next to her was a large, old fashioned cart filled to the brim with apples.
There were apples, apples, and more apples. Just apples.

Actually just a few of the over 600 apples we harvested this season from our two dwarf apple trees we planted as wisps when we moved here over 35 years ago. To prevent apple maggots and apple coddling moths from ruining them, we hand wrap each apple when they are very small with mesh "booty", which can create some interesting and even beautiful patterns on the skins as the apples mature and color up. This is a selection of some that I thought were cool and worth photographing. Most of the apples are the 'Akane' cultivar, while others are 'MacFree', a later-ripening, somewhat tarter variety, though they are both delicious!

Apple is taking a different path with the launch of the Apple Watch, with online sales and try-on appointments beginning more than two weeks before availability. As a result, Apple Stores did not see the usual long launch lines this morning. I made a Try-On Appointment at the Ala Moana Center store.
