23/52: The weekly challenge - Fantasy – Is this real life, or is this just fantasy?
Also for Sliders Sunday. HSS
Two images blended together, one of my son in a gas mask and one of part of the Thames, London...the old Blackfriars Bridge. I spent longer than I should have on this as it's not my usual type of thing and so far out of my comfort zone. I am quite pleased with the results though (although I do prefer to do prettier images)...just hope I don't have nightmares tonight! ;)
For 52 in 52. This weeks theme is an event, I think you could class a market as an event.
This is a fruit and veg stall at Borough Market in London.
Still trying to catch up with commenting.
forced perspective - just messing around =)
Portrait: Environmental - Show a subject in their natural habitat. Their place of work or hobby is a great start. Tell their story with the environment
&
Story: Perspective - Perspective for the purpose of this challenge is the relationship of objects in the scene. If you really want a challenge this is a good chance to use forced perspective.
5/52: The 52 week challenge - Glass – it can be a macro or not…think transparent, reflections, shiny, or whatever comes to your mind.
This was taken while we were in Russell, New Zealand...having a lovely meal and a glass of sauvignon blanc (NZ of course).

32/52: The 52 week challenge - Photograph to make sense of the past: what has been, and how it has affected what has come after.
Another difficult theme that I was really struggling with. The camera has always been a powerful tool, recording important events and evolving from fixed lens to interchangeable lenses right through to the present day smartphone with a camera and ability to connect directly to social media...who knows what is to come in the future.
In this image you can see my Kodak Brownie through my 50mm lens, along with various lenses and my smartphone.

14/52: The 52 week challenge _ Negative space.
I've been looking forward to this week's theme as I love negative space and I think it works so well with high key which some of you may have noticed I also love! ;) It's funny though because both of these things are almost second nature to me but when I need to do it for a challenge it's hard to think what to do. I'm always happy to use my vintage tea cups and saucers and these pretty soap roses which were a charity shop find and have been very useful.
The 52 week challenge 2019.
week 1; "Story-telling". Make a portrait or self portrait without showing the face. I chose to capture a person without the person in the "portrait".
52 Week Challenge - week 21: theme is PAPER
I'll make some paper flowers & a paper vase to stand them in - "how hard can it be?" I thought... It'll be easy, there's loads of ideas & tuts on YT....
......well 3 days later I've finally managed to come up with something I'm happy with :-)
I've decided I'm definitely NOT an arts n crafts kinda gal
PS. trying to catch up after 2 x spinal surgeries in 3 mths, I'm getting there!
2/52 For the 52 in 52 challenge Flip the script.
This is my 'just in case' shot for the challenge. I'm not quite sure this is suitable. It's The Sky Mirror Sculpture in Nottingham. The mirror 'flips' the image so you don't see what you expect to see. Rear view of the sculpture, with the tower in the background, in comments.

35/52: The weekly challenge - Leaves
I bought a couple of old books at the weekend...to add to my growing collection. One was an old library book about the life and times of Lloyd George. I tore the fly leaf out (hence the title) since that was the whole purpose of buying the book. Apologies to anyone who thinks that is a crime but the way I look at it is it's being used rather than end up in a tip somewhere. The other book, with the rose on has lots of hand written notes in it which also appeals to me from an artistic point of view. I also made a tag with the leaf definition from an old dictionary...oh dear...I am a book lover really!

14/52 For The 52 Week Challenge - Try again, fail again, fail better. Another difficult theme but I am using this image because I have done it a couple of times before and feel it's one of those things I will never be 100% happy with so I will keep failing but hopefully it will be a bit better each time. A previous attempt in comments.
I am going to be away for the weekend with no internet access so will catch up when I'm back. Hope you all have a great weekend.

44/52: The weekly challenge - Minis
I really couldn't think what to do for this one so ended up just doing a fun one with Thing (made for me by Flickr friend Monique) and these miniature bottles of pink gin. I know I look as though I'm always on the booze but I am actually quite a lightweight where alcohol is concerned. These were part of a set of four that a friend gave me for my birthday in May...there are still three left.
For 52 in 52 theme - shoot your subject from behind.
For Happy Teddy Bear Tuesday. HTBT
After keeping my eyes open for an interesting subject to photograph from behind...and I love rear view photos...I didn't find anything I really liked enough. I then thought being Tuesday I would take a teddy bear photo (for Teddy bear Tuesday) I had a lightbulb moment and here is the result.
All my teddy pics can be found here:
"Semla" buns for shrove Tuesday (even though it's not quite yet).
Week 6/52, Inspiration"; no filter just basic corrections such as exposure. This image is this week taken with my phone. Not the best ;)
from down low, face in the ceiling
Landscape: Get Low - Time to look at the world from a different angle. Shoot a landscape from a low point of view.
fashion -> clothes -> laundry -> washing machine
Portrait: Fashion - Avant-garde to commercial to traditional, and everything in between. The focus is the clothes this week.
24/52: The 52 week challenge - Emotion
Manny was feeling a bit emotional, he just can't hide his feelings

Landscape: Waterscape - Ocean, lake, river, pond, or puddle. Make water the primary subject of this landscape.
32/52: The weekly photo challenge- Memories – anything that conjures up memories for you. It can be an emotion, or it can be something handed down to you through the generations.
Adopting Bruno has brought back wonderful memories of Tess, our beautiful golden retriever. We had Tess from a puppy and she was with us for 14 wonderful years. She was that one in a million and I still miss her 6 years on. After losing Tess, we adopted Chester, a blind one eyed 10 year old black lab. He was an amazing dog and even though he was blind, he could run and fetch sticks and toys. He was such a character and we were so lucky to have had him in our lives for 3 years. After two and a half dog free years, Bruno (aged 12) has come into our lives. We didn't dream we could be so lucky again but he is a dream dog. Bruno is bigger and darker than Tess but I look at him and see Tess, especially when out walking. So adopting Bruno has been a double whammy for us...not only is he a fabulous, well behaved, handsome boy who makes me smile every day, but he also brings back such happy memories of our dear old Tess. Probably not the best photo but I think it fits the bill for the theme.
15:52 - books
I must have had this famous book for 10 years but finally started to read it on holiday in November. It's travelled the globe, seeing me through several long flights, and is definitely looking the worse for wear. it's a great read but maybe one to leave until you're retired, or marooned on a desert island.
366/366: 2016
50/52: The 52 week challenge - The background is as important as the sitter (yourself)
52/52: Project 52 - The end of a journey
This really is the end of a journey...two consecutive 365s. I am not doing a 365 next year, I know I will miss it and all the interaction with everyone but time for a break.
Not overly happy with this but then I hate self portraits...or any photos of me, I tried to get myself even more out of focus but this is the most out of focus I could manage, and the least silly face, in some I looked like a cross between a monkey and a hamster. It's very hard to blow the glitter without puffing your cheeks out!
I think I will still be clearing up glitter in June!
Wishing you all the most wonderful New Year.
Quite nice to go out on an Explore!
2:52 Flip the Script - Groomzilla
I too found this theme challenging and had pre-concieved ideas about the shot I intended to post....but it was not to be. Rather than not post at all, I decided that this image might (hopefully) fit the theme, although at first glance you will probably wonder why....
This is the wedding set up for my partners son....and as we all know grooms generally just show up for the occasion don't they? Not this groom....he arranged everything, even down to the flowers!!. The wedding took place in Vanuatu, an island in the Coral Sea, which was virtually decimated 10 months ago by a Category 5 Cyclone. (A side note here, Vanuatu is essentially a 3rd world country about to have an election to replace the politicians that are now in gaol for stealing the cyclone relief funds that the world donated to help them rebuild!!)
Being young and naive the groom believed that his chosen venue would be rebuilt in time for the big day. It was not, hence the venue and accommodation for all guests had to be changed about 8 weeks prior to the event. And of course Vanuatu is again in the midst of cyclone season AND one was forming prior to and during our stay. The day of the wedding we awoke to heavy, squally rain and strong, gusting winds. The venue operators pleaded with the groom to move the event inside. He refused, firm in his belief that despite all the odds the weather would co-operate...and miraculously it did.
I took this picture about 3/4 hour prior to the ceremony when it finally cleared. The ceremony and reception took place on this deck and all guests sported that wonderful "windswept" hair look, including his 86 and 84 year old grand parents who made the long trek to attend.
Fortunately, the cyclone by-passed the Southern Islands of Vanuatu with no major damage.
My apologies for not keeping up over the past week, shall do my best to catch up over the next few days.
"Why Aren't We Listening?"
I think it's true to say that I have loved every single piece of work Amanda Newman has done in Melbourne, but I think this new one might just be my favourite.
So beautiful, and so powerful.
Amanda says of the mural,
"The Earth has been warning us for a long time. Our children are listening but by the time they are old enough to do something about it, it may be too late.
Why do we ignore our planet and the children who will inherit it?
For Through The Lens 52-week challenge week 30 theme of "If Only" I say, "If only we were listening".
"Simply the scene to make your primary subject stand out."

Week No. 25: “Favorite Photographer”
Category: Creative
9 years ago on small island of Great Saltees (nature reserve )of the south east coast of Ireland I met a great photographer and now a good friend of mine Des Glynn. Des inspired me to take up nature photography . Over the years I learned a lot and my nature images would not be as they are today with out help of Des .
Here is a link to Des Glynn photography
Landscape: Zoomed in - Most landscapes are wide sweeping images. Try an alternative and zoom in instead.

Dogwood 52 week photography challenge

just messing around =)
The most beautiful sights I see usually have lots of green in them. It is said the human eye can detect more shades of green than any other color.
This image was originally in answer to a weekly photo challenge . . . "Favorite Color". So this assignment was easy . . . all I had to do was post one of my landscapes and I was finished for the week. But that would not be in the right spirit of the challenge. So, since I love golfing (on a green golf course) where it requires green money to pay the green fees. I gathered a light-green shirt and a green pair of pants and put some money into the pocket . . . and I am now ready to dress for golf.
