The 52 week challenge - Get wet. Take a photograph in the rain using the elements of the situation to your visual advantage.

We haven't had much rain lately (although it's drizzling today) so I re-edited a photo I've used previously (black and white) as I am getting so behind with the challenge.

Week 13 for the 52 week project - The painter Bonnard said “Make little lies to tell a great truth”. Use that as your inspiration.

I have really struggled with this theme and had no idea what to do as if I am honest, I don't really understand it!

As I was uploading this image for Window Wednesday, I thought maybe this could work. Are the reflections truth or lies? Are they really there? Am I thinking too much about this? So, one from the archives which I don't like doing for a challenge but I'm pretty sure I am not going to get anything else.

Taken in Boston. The wires on the left are holding the amazing net sculpture, part of which is seen in the reflection.

I'm thankful for every moment.

Artistic: Transportation - Our world is one defined by how we get around. Literal or interpretative, find inspiration in transportation.

Artistic: Orange - Your inspiration this week is orange. Either the color orange or an actual orange. Or both.

30/52: The weekly challenge - SOOC, no editing.

I saw these cute little boots in the Junk shop I visited with Flickr friends Coleen and Diane. There were so many things I would have loved to bring home with me, it's a good job luggage space was limited!

Portrait: Sitting in a Chair - Either a formal sitting portrait or a re-interpretation of this classic. Photography your subject sitting in a chair.

13/52: The weekly challenge - Feathers

#38 in my 100 x challenge - photos from my travels

This feathers are part of a cloak made by students at the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institute weaving school at Rotorua. They also have carving school. The work in both schools is incredible.

I'm back from my trip and starting to catch up with some commenting.

3:52 Shooting into the light.

Time for confession...I know light is king in photography but I've never really understood how that translates into making a good picture. And I think there is some rule about shooting into direct sunlight so this is my "literal, left brain take" of breaking the rules of photography by shooting directly into the light.

Hoping for rain, instead just blue skies... =p

Landscape: Weather - This week should be as unpredictable as the weather! Feature the weather in this week's landscape.

the mysterious colander

Artistic: Shadows - The opposite of light is dark, the absence of light is shadow. Interpret this into a masterpiece.

&

Artistic: Still Life - Your inspiration this week is Still Life. A couple of pieces of fruit on a table won't impress in the advanced challenge though... so really be creative.

30 second exposure. I like the way the color of the sky turned out, basically straight out of camera

Week 25/52: Freedom. What's freedom for me? As I love spending time in the woodlands, exploring nature, that is freedom for me. The feeling of being alive and being able to explore the nature is wonderful. Spending hours in the forest, leaving the urban landscape for a while, is peaceful and the best way to clear the mind :)

Landscape: Urbanscape - Most Landscapes are wide open spaces of natural beauty... this week find the beauty of the urbanscape/cityscape.

38/52: The weekly challenge - Tell a story using a mirror

I was struggling with this one until I realised that my little grandson had a mirror attached to his play mat. He seemed to enjoy playing with the mirror and he was chatting away to it and of course chewing it. I got a few shots that I liked. In some the mirror didn't show as much so I chose this one for the theme.

3:52 Begins the first letter of my name.

It’s not easy getting that bite right ... and silly me only had one for the prop!!

1/52: The 52 week challenge - Red - Shoot whatever inspires you. Red should be the focus of the image. Don't be afraid to be creative.

I love to do pretty images and thought maybe lipstick or ribbon or buttons/beads for this theme. But then I was clearing some of the stuff from my son's room, ready for decorating, and came across this ceramic money bank. It's called the right hand of doom so I thought the low key would suit it.

This is also my first photo in the 100 times challenge...as yet no theme just going with January's suggested theme of minimalism.

#84 in my 100 x challenge - Monochrome

46/52: The weekly challenge _ Brown (I'm getting ahead with myself with this one, I hope it's okay to post a couple of days early...if I don't, I will forget)

My son replaced his guitar strings recently so I kept the envelopes they came in. I thought they would go with this layout but I know someone will pick up on the fact that they are for a guitar and this is a violin...hence the title.

Have a great weekend everyone.

This great blue heron hangs around the work campus so often I consider him family at this point =)

Portrait: Family - Whether it's the family you are born with or the one you choose, show the world what family is to you.

4:52 Abandoned – Capture an image of that which others have forgotten.

Dan's Dad rescued these documents from a skip (dumpster) in Bristol in the 70s. The vellum document in the foreground is a record of indenture for the Company and Corporation of Merchant Tailors dated 1647. The book behind it is the last will and testament of Mrs. Sarah Ridley and details the alms house she had set up - it's dated 1716. The ledger in the background contains the meeting notes of a committee planning the 1864 opening celebrations of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol.

Artistic: Minimalist - Isolate your subject using the minimalist approach. Inspire someone with your art.

20/366: 2015

3/52 For the 52 in 52 challenge - break it, bend it, bin it.

I took this at midday, one rule broken, and then broke the rule of thirds by placing the tree in the centre. I had another photo earmarked for the challenge but the more I looked at it the less sure I was about it. Then I remembered about this lovely tree which I have photographed before, during a spectacular sunset. Although the sky was lovely today, I felt this looked more interesting in sepia.

Landscape: Wide Angle/Panorama - This is a great opportunity to explore panorama stitching and create a wide sweeping landscape.

Technical: One Shot - Imagine that it is the last frame on a roll of film, and you have to nail it. For this challenge only take one shot. No deleting, no 2nd shot. The honor system is in play.

42/52: The weekly challenge - What is it? Photograph something so that it's not obvious what it is.

This is one I took back in August and didn't use. I thought it might be okay for this challenge although it might be obvious what it is.

26/52: The weekly challenge - Circles – Find them in nature, in manmade objects or make them yourself.

I had a few ideas for this weeks theme and wasted more time than I should have done...I have to remind myself of this when I say I miss doing a 365! In the end it was down to this one or a high key...surely not ;) I will probably post the high key one as well. I put some fairy lights behind to shine through the empty spaces.

22:52 - Rows of Things

Just like it sounds. It can be something you find or something you set up.

37:52 Think of your surroundings as elements of light, not objects.

Fitting that the far mountains are in an area called the Ghost.

I have decided to do a 52 week challenge this year to "develop" my skills and provide some motivation. Week 1 was a selfie/ self-portrait . "Discover the self-timer". Hated being in front of the camera but had to "get over myself". Learning points/ challenges: 1. man-handling the tripod. 2. finding the manual focus setting and self-timer 3. Friendly dog-owners wanting to know what I was doing.

Week 21/52. Inspiration; "Serenity"

The last few months have been life changing. My dad's old soul has gone to the city where the roses never fade. He's with the angles now playing his accordion, his favourite instrument. Not only a dad to me, also one of my best friend. A person with such a kind heart with so much care for others. The world really lost a beautiful soul.

The 52 week challenge - 7/52: Morning Light – that wonderful golden light that you see out the window when you first get up.

I am not an early riser so set the alarm to get up early to see the sun rising over Lake Tekapo this morning. It was beautiful to see the light hitting the hills and mountains although it was a little chilly.

Also #22 for my 100 x challenge - photos from my travels.

20/52: The weekly challenge- Shot from above.

So I thought I'd do a flatlay using my vintage bottles for this theme. I painted a new backdrop (duck egg) and really wanted some texture to it. Unfortunately it dried smoother than I wanted so I added a texture courtesy of Kerstin Frank www.flickr.com/photos/kerstinfrank-design/6667355199/in/a...

Waiting for the Aurora that never really was murph le and I amused ourselves with night portraits. There was no moon, just the immense galaxies, a deafening chorus of Boreal Frogs, and owls hooting back and forth.

Artistic: Candy - Your artistic interpretation this week should be inspired by something sweet. A great chance to play with macro photography.

Artistic: Candy - A throwback to one of the favorite weeks of the original challenge. Your artistic inspiration this week is candy. Since this is the advanced challenge... you can't actually use candy in the scene.

Portrait: Movement - Most portraits are stationary, so this week explore adding some movement. Dancing, twirling, or even hair flips.

Story: leading Lines - Leading Lines are a very important compositional element that every photographer needs to master. Use leading lines to tell a story. No train tracks.

Dogwood 52 week photography challenge

40:52 - take a picture at night; however added flash or long exposures are not allowed. Use solely available light whether artificial or natural.

I've sorely neglected the 52 week challenge group, sorry! Chris's Edinburgh night scene reminded me of some slightly tipsy driving shots from earlier this year (I wasn't the driver).

Myself and fellow photographer, Mark Curnow, are embarking on a 52 week photo challenge.

Each week we are given a topic in which to explore, this week's theme is:

Technical:One Shot

Imagine that this is the last frame on a roll of film, and you have to nail it.

For this challenge take only one shot. No deleting, no second shot, the honor system is in play!

This was not only one shot, it's the first shot that I took today, can't beat a bit of morning light!

Week No: 1

Theme: My story starts with a.....

Category: Creative

My new year started with a trip to wilderness. It was very early start on New years day. Getting up at 4:30 am and 2-hour drive to reach our destination for sunrise. It wasn't much of a sunrise but the view was fantastic. Despite rain, hail storm, sleet and gale-storm winds it was well worth it to start the new year in such a beautiful place.

4/52: Abandoned – Capture an image of that which others have forgotten. It may be the last image before it’s gone from us forever. It can be an old building, or something you find on the ground, or…

This chair was in a road just opposite where we were staying in Ponsonby, Auckland. Seemed perfect for this theme. The next day it was gone but there was a cushion on the fence, not a cushion from the chair though.

Also #11 for my 100 x challenge - photos from my travels.

Artistic: Metal - Cold, hard steel. Shiny Aluminum. Or even rusted and broken down. Find your inspiration in metal this week.

&

Artistic: Hard - Your artistic inspiration this week is hard. Hard is both an adjective and an adverb. Interpret this how you wish.

dogwood.photography/52weekchallenge2017.html

6/52: The 52 week challenge - Candy – Your artistic interpretation this week should be inspired by something sweet.

Not the sort of shot I would do if I was home but when you are away you have to take the opportunities that arise. These chocolates were part of the snacks that were on offered in our hotel in Hong Kong. I took this photo of them as a just in case shot...nothing else has come up so I'm using this for the challenge. The chocolates were rather delicious...well, I had to try them so I could let you know! ;)

32/52: The weekly challenge - Minimalist

I didn't read the brief properly before taking my photo. I now realise it said isolate your subject to give a minimalist effect. Hope this is okay as my interpretation though as I just don't have time to go back to the drawing board.

I bought this teacup and saucer (not that you can see much of it) in Nottingham while spending a lovely afternoon with Flickr friends Sarah and Jenny. Sarah and I travelled to Nottingham to meet Jenny who was visiting from Canada. We had a lovely lunch before wandering around Nottingham, chatting and taking photos. Another bonus on the day was a fleeting visit to my son and new daughter-in-law who live in Nottingham.

153/366: 2016

22/52: The 52 week challenge - Try and apply a technique or style that is widely associated with a specific photographic genre and use it in an unconventional way.

I am finding these challenges difficult but hope I have interpreted this correctly. The way I looked at it is that still life is a photographic genre and I deliberately blurred the image and added grain to make it unconventional.

I am getting very behind with commenting, life just gets in the way sometimes, sorry, I will do my best to start catching up later.

23/52: The weekly challenge - Fantasy – Is this real life, or is this just fantasy?

Also for Sliders Sunday. HSS

Two images blended together, one of my son in a gas mask and one of part of the Thames, London...the old Blackfriars Bridge. I spent longer than I should have on this as it's not my usual type of thing and so far out of my comfort zone. I am quite pleased with the results though (although I do prefer to do prettier images)...just hope I don't have nightmares tonight! ;)
