15:52 Comfort Zone

Despite not having to contend with the elements, I find still lifes incredibly difficult. I take my hat off to those that excel at this genre of photography.

(This image was the best I could do after TWO days of trying ... the flowers died before I could get something I was totally happy with!! I'm so far out of my comfort zone with this style of photography).

11/52: The weekly challenge - Shadows – The opposite of light is dark, the absence of light is shadow. Interpret this however you like.

Also # 34 in my 100 x challenge - photos from my travels

Taken in the Melbourne Botanical Gardens in the early evening light.

33/52: The weekly challenge - Nature up close – This one is a macro.

This is a balloon flower, it's new to our garden this year, each year I like to introduce some new flowers to the garden...always handy for a photo prop :) I know I should leave them on the plant to take the photo but this is so much easier than laying on damp grass and struggling to get up as well as battling with the breeze. I'm still trying to catch up with challenges and with commenting so have stayed in my comfort zone...it's still nature, right? ;)

20:52 Shot from above

...and finally I actually am on top of things, well challenges at least :))

18/52:The 52 week challenge - Broken

This violin was my other naughty purchase yesterday. One of the strings is broken so I thought it would be perfect for this theme. I set up and took the shot with my macro lens and then noticed how dusty it was so I put a film filter over it to disguise the dust.

8:52 Beating the February blahs...

We don't really suffer from the February blahs here. Well unless we are struggling with a long hot summer ... and when that happens we head to the beach :)

27:52 Go into your archives, find an orphaned photo, and use it as a inspiration to make a better image.

Though Stelios cooperated marvellously for his boudoir shoot I wasn't happy with the results. I do like this film noir version though.

in retrospect, I should have taken multiple exposures to avoid the blown out sky

Landscape: Black and White - Look for a scene with great contrast that will make a great black and white.

&

Technical: Ten Shots - Shoot 10 shots of the same subject. Each shot should be from a different angle, distance, and focal length. Share your favorite image from the set.

day's end

3:52 starts with the first initial of my name.

24:52 Collaboration

All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness.

~ Eckhart Tolle

The exceptionally talented rockinmonique provided this beautifully calming image for me to work with for our 52 week challenge collaboration theme. Hope you like it, Monique!

22/52: The 52 week challenge - Rows of things.

I took two photos for this theme, the other was a high key, minimal image of three pen nibs in a row. My husband chose this one. I may well post the other one too as he usually chooses the wrong one! ;) This is my latest knitting project, a cushion cover. I only took up knitting last year (I'm a late starter) but I love it and like to have a project or two on the go.

I've given this a film filter and a bit of a fade as I thought it might give it a bit of added interest.

I am still really behind with viewing and commenting but attempting to slowly catch up.

7:52 Shadows

52/52: The 52 week challenge - We once saw a mural in Maidstone that said “What you see depends on where you stand”. Use this as your inspiration

I took this a few weeks ago when we visited Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire but didn't want to post out of sequence.

I have some catching up to do with commenting and will try to catch up in the next few days.

4:52 tack sharp

For this theme unposted images from last year’s Florida trip immediately came to mind. We visited the alligator farm to see the rookery hundreds of breeding birds had created there, and I grabbed some shots of the maelstrom that followed alligator feeding time. Breaking my rule of not posting captive animals for this one. Oh and I’d have needed a faster shutter speed than 1/400 to actually get it tack sharp!

Portrait: Silhouette - Expose for the background and let your subject fall into shadow. Shape is important this week.

47/52: The weekly challenge - Paper abstracts.

These are the components for a Christmas decoration I started making but haven't had time to finish yet...at least they've come in handy for this challenge...albeit late!

Sorry to flood your feed with photos, I'm desperately trying to catch up with challenges! Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend.

28/52: The 52 week challenge - Photograph something you’ve been looking at or walking past for a long time, but which you’ve never photographed before.

I have been walking past and wanting to photograph this car for a long time but worry that the owner will come out and ask me what I am doing. Today, because I needed to get a photo for the challenge, I took the bull by the horns and took a couple of shots.

Our internet has been very slow today, hope it's running okay now so I can leave some comments, if not I will catch up as soon as I can.

25/52: The weekly challenge - Animal

A quick shot of Bruno, who refused to look at the camera but I wanted to get this challenge done and get on with the packing. We are off to Canada early tomorrow morning and I'm not sure how good the internet access will be...or when I'll have time to post. I will try to keep up with challenges and not fall too far behind though.

It will be virtually impossible to keep up with comments over the next few weeks so as much as I always appreciate your comments please don't feel the need to comment on my photos.

Artistic: Sparkle! - Shoot what inspires you this week, just make sure it sparkles.

29/52: The 52 week challenge - Collaboration – It doesn’t matter what you shoot – anything you like. You will send your unedited image to another person in the group to do the processing.

This beautiful macro flower was sent to me, to edit, by photographer extraordinaire Tracey.

www.flickr.com/photos/22269025@N07/

It was a beautiful image and I wasn't sure what to do so I thought I would get right out of my comfort zone and add a couple of my own textures to it. I would really have liked to erase the textures from the petals but couldn't remember how to so maybe I'll come back to do that when I have a bit more time. I hope you like this Tracey.

9/52: The weekly challenge - Shapes

I've used these cookie cutters before but decided to use them again...they are pink but I changed the colour to blue in honour of my darling new grandson who of course I am totally, utterly and wholeheartedly in love with! Haha, I know, you'd think no one had ever had a grandchild before and I am probably boring you already!

45:52 Delicate

The cat is the animal to whom the Creator gave the biggest eye, the softest fur, the most supremely delicate nostrils, a mobile ear, an unrivalled paw and a curved claw belonging to the rose-tree ~Colette

1:52 focus is overrated

I took this last year for another theme and forgot to post it:

33:52 (2018] Every day item: Turn something that you would normally walk right by into a work of art

#12 October 2017: A month in 31 pictures

41/52: The weekly challenge - Found and foraged – You can go out looking for something to photograph, or it can be something you have already found. Use your imagination…

The cones and seeds I found last year and kept as 'just in cases' photo props, the sweet chestnuts were foraged last weekend in Norfolk. I was sorting through trying to find the best ones and Bruno, helping me, obviously thought they were tennis balls and kept trying to pick them up! I think a book and a bit of lace makes anything look better.

I will be away for a few days, will try to get a pic taken and posted in the morning but otherwise will have to post a few and catch up when back. Thank you all so much for your continued support while I am being a very bad Flickrite!

20/52: The 52 week challenge - Sparkle! – Shoot what inspires you this week, just make sure it sparkles.

Another high key image...I am so predictable but in a rush so sticking to my safety zone...and my much used craft stash.

I won't be around much for the next week or so...once again I apologise for the lack of commenting. It's been a manic year and will continue to be for the next few months. I will stop by when I can.

16/52: The weekly challenge - Imperfect

Maybe more dying than imperfect but the processing is imperfect but I didn't really have time to mess around too much. I added a couple of textures and erased some of the script from one of the textures (over the tulips) and, on closer inspection, didn't make as good a job as I thought I had...a job for another day.

I'm pretty sure you are all fed up with tulip photos by now so will be pleased to know this could be the last one...for now ;)

#6 - October 2017: A month in 31 pictures

40/52: The weekly challenge - Still Life – Set up and design your own image…inside or outside.

The book is one of my charity shop finds, I love collecting old books...among other things.

Posting early today as we are going away for the weekend. Will catch up with posting and commenting when back. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

2:52 Mono

First time I've ever photographed Calgary's skyline. I'd like another go at this when it's not -20. Prince's Island Park is in front of downtown, donated to the city by the Prince family - it's an island in the Bow River where the annual Folk Fest is held. Far right are the Rockies. We hoped for a spectacular sunset that never came.

Week 2 in the 52 week challenge - Duplicates – two of whatever you like in whatever way you choose.

2/100: The 100 x challenge using the January theme of minimalism.

A couple of dried hydrangea flowers from my collection of 'just in cases' props.

I'm sorry for the lack of comments, I am not going to be around much over the next two or three months. I will stop by when I can to post for challenges and will try to leave a comment (probably limited to one word) and or hit the fave button...not something I am fond of doing without a comment but I hope you will be understanding for a while. I am missing the 365 and my daily Flickr fix! I do appreciate your continued support and encouragement but equally don't expect comments when I can't reciprocate much.

10:52 Street/night lights

Taken after a “dinner date” with my nephew, amidst all the Friday night hustle and bustle of down town Torquay ... this is it folks, the big city life I lead :))

6:52 Historical

Dan’s Dad had kept this VE Day medal all the children in the neighbourhood received from their local Fire Station. Too lazy to use a tripod I shone a lamp into my cabinet of curiosities where we keep other historical bits and pieces - those are some old salt shakers in the background.

Portrait: Child - Candid or posed, capture an image of a child. Try getting down on their level for a unique perspective.

14:52 Negative Space

I'm having to go to the archives to try and get up to date with the challenges.

My apologies for being so off-line recently, but as some of you already know its been a busy few months getting our house ready to sell. Which it did a couple of days ago...so now we are onto new adventures. No real plan, just gunna be nomads for a while.

19:52 High Key - It can be a macro or not, but make sure there's lots of light here!

28/52: The weekly challenge - Long exposure

Two Jack lake, another beautiful lake in Banff. Less crowded than Lake Louise so made for a much more pleasant experience.

#72 in my 100 x challenge - Monochrome

39/52: The weekly challenge - Doorknobs or handles

Now I know the challenge really meant door handles but I'm using artistic licence.

This is my sister's log basket, I've had my eye on it for a photo since we got here.

mockingbird wasn't happy with where the heron was perched, kept chirping and flying by, to no avail

Landscape: Simplify - Simplify the scene to make your primary subject stand out.

18:52 Broken

I found a pile of broken branches on the neighbours nature strip and took one with the intention of using it for this theme. And today I was airing out the picnic basket in the sunshine and thought they might work together.

I'm slowing catching up :))

Dan's Hasselback potatoes are pretty damn near perfect.

34:52 Food – Take your food photography to the next level…or if you haven’t shot food before – It’s not lunch, it’s art!

Flickr Friends - we're off to Knight Inlet on Canada's West Coast where we'll have no wi-fi for a week, way hay!

25:52 something that floats

I just couldn’t think of anything that wasn’t a duck for this one, then a browse through my 2017 Flickrcation shots turned up what I really hope is a reflection of 2 cruise ships at Canada Place in Vancouver. Happy memories!

27:52 Leaves

Taken on our my recent Flickrcation in Sechelt during our one rainy day. Loved the intensity of the colours in the diffused light.
