56091 passing Winwick with 6M89, the 09.01 Middleton Towers - Ravenhead loaded sand on Sat 27th May 2023.
Due to a speed restriction and the consist being only partially loaded, we didn't get the flying sand effects that this train often produces here. I was pleased enough with the result though, having tried unsuccessfully for this shot a couple of times before.

HI yeah I know, I'm all up in your collective faces every day for a week, then I drop off the skin of the world. I had a reason for my three weeks absence this time though; I've been busy with a casting to join The Fashion Loft.
YES I'M GOING TO START MODELLING AGAIN WTF WINTER I'M AS SHOCKED AS YOU ARE I'll drop some lore at the bottom of this post in case you're interested and you don't have to sift through if you're not.
ANYWAY we had to create two outfits for the casting on Saturday, and the first was "Ethereal Romance." They asked the men to not be too femme in their approach and lol woops but I figure; this is me and how I style anyway. If its not right for the audition or your tastes then you aren't going to want what I can offer the agency and we are all good - no harm no foul. Luckily though, the judges liked what I put down and I found out a few hours ago that I got in. YAY!
Story Flower head accessory by Lode, Guilty hair by Studio Exposure, Hjarta scarf and Finger shirt by BTTB, Yules pants by Malefic, Walker shoes by Kokoia (not in shot but they are really nice, trust me.)
Raw and unedited from SL. It just took me like an hour of fiddling with the EEP!

Why did I stop? (For those of you who knew that that modelling was A Thing I Did and haven't just joined in my third act.) Well in February 2021 I had a very bad non-covid-related health crisis happen which took me some months to recover from, and then a lot more to get all my co-ordination back. Part of the reason this happened is that I was stubbornly ignoring the fact that I live 15 hours ahead of SL and staying up stupidly late way too often, to be involved in fashion life here. Not very long before it happened, I was up until 4am for 10 days in a row working on an event that I was the creative director for. My neurorologist told me that I'd been an idiot. I agreed.
Now; years later after kicking around the idea I'm mentally, socially, emotionally and physically ready to start being an idiot again but only in very small doses. Here and there. This being said, I want to join at least 2 more active agencies so if you know anyone casting or just generally looking for an SL modelling dinosaur, let me know!
Back to school pictures are in order today. The remaining summer fun will now have to be experienced in the evenings and weekends. I was brave saying goodbye to my 3rd grader this morning, we met her teacher last night and I am expecting a great year! I'm looking forward to volunteering and getting involved.

OK, I am about 2200 miles from Sherri and today is our 3rd anniversary. The peonies are one of Sher's favorite flowers, so this is to pay a small tribute to those 3 phenomenal years...how can time go by so quickly, yet be filled with such wonder? I am indeed a lucky man! However, it totally sucks being apart like this!
Now I have to tell the story of our love aria:
I first spied her walking down the hall at the downtown HS, where we were meeting to discuss the 1% for Art pieces at the valley HS. Sher was walking down the corridor, coming out of the darkness into the light. I was immediately taken by her adorable face, "cool" eyeglasses, snappy Alaskan hippie-chic clothes, and stylish hair cut. After the meetings with the artists, I asked the principal of my firm who she was and found that she had been on the art selection committee for the valley HS...she was also married, so that was off-limits for this boy. Well fate played a hand in this game...
About 1 1/2 years later I was heading out to Admiralty Island with my dogs and realised that my house would be sitting empty and my usual housesitter, Katie, would probably like some quiet respite there. So we met for dinner to discuss the schedule of my trip...and as it turns out to get drawn into a wonderful web that Katie was spinning. She very subtly asked if I was seeing anyone...I wasn't. And then told me that I should think about asking Sherri Brown out. I responded that she was adorable, but married...and Katie smiled this sweet, but sly smile and said: "not anymore". So I'm out at a cabin at Young Lake for 6 days with plenty of time to think about this turn of events...and did I ever think about it!
So Monday comes and I'm heading back to work, I walk in the front door of the office and who is standing at the front counter?!?! Well, of course this is some perfect Hollywood script, and it is the inimitable Sherri Brown! She immediately goes beet red, my ears go burning red (when I get embarrassed my ears go red..luckily most people don't notice it). She had just been hired by my firm to be the Interiors Architect and was going to assist me on the new HS. We found out later that as it so happened Katie had been talking to each of us and didn't tell each of us she was spinning this sweet web. So I'm all suave and such...and I shake her hand...very cool under fire am I. Well I spend a couple of weeks stealing glances at Sher as she walks down the hall or finding some reason to talk to her about some silly issue on the new HS. Katie is getting worried that we aren't playing by her devious rules, so she enlists my good buddy Aaron to plant the seed that Sherri doesn't think I like her...does this sound like HS or what? So it works perfectly...I run down the hall and walk into her station to ask her out. Then I realise that all of the work stations are open to each other and everyone will hear me. So I lower my voice to ask her to lunch. Sher leans in towards me, you know: THE LEAN, whereas a woman leans towards you to signal interest, and I think woohoo, I am in!!! I found out later that Sher is partly deaf...
We went to lunch on October 10th at a little sushi place. 2 hours went by like 2 minutes. I felt as if I'd known her my whole life. We went for a walk after lunch...what are they gonna do, fire us?!?! We saw several people we knew and every one of them rubber-necked...they knew before we did, this was definitely love...(Sher has since informed me that the walk occurred on our next date, but I;m sticking with it here as it makes for a more sappy story!)
I am so very grateful for these past 3 years and hope there are 30 more just like it to follow...I adore you Mon Sher, happy anniversary!!!
We stopped at every bench on the Sulphur Skyline trail today. This is the 3rd Bench. The views start to open up and the forested basin appears Altitude 1598m; Elevation gain so far, 210m. This is my daughter's 3rd ascent, she summited the ridge for the first time, when she was 8. Total elevation gain is 636m or 2086ft, a good hike to start the season :)
My 3rd attempt to capture the DCR Tug on the empties out of Oxford and finally lucked in on some blue sky (which disappeared about 10 mins later)
Possibly the UKs smartest freight train, 60028 approaches Appleford hauling 6Z52, the 11:18 Oxford Banbury Road - Machen Quarry
Using my Nikon d3500, I took the 3rd consecutive 100 images of this lightning storm (~25x8s used) to see if I could develop the best stacking from the best lightning discharges. The final image turned out so-so. As conditions darkened after sunset, light scattered onto clouds by lightning becomes very problematic. There are techniques to improve on this stacking but it requires considerable post-processing to achieve.
Note limited cloud to ground strikes. Two sets of crawlers at top left criss-crossed each other within 3 minutes.
Storm was 14 to 25 miles distant.

It was just another 3rd of July in Richmond, CA with the Oakland Symphony playing at the Craneway Pavilion and fireworks lighting up the sky.
Last year I got to shoot this little trouble makers birthday. Her mother liked the shots so much that she asked me to come back. This year it was cold and very windy.
Be sure to check out the shots in the comments!
On 3rd October 2018, Prussian 'T16.1' Class 0-10-0 tank 94 1538 runs through the closed Schmiedefeld station with a special public holiday working between Schleusingerneundorf and Rennsteig. Two decades of tree growth since its closure by DB have left it looking in a very sorry state. The railway first came to Schmiedefeld in 1904 after which it grew as a popular spa resort for convalescing, hiking and cross-country skiing. Post-war during the GDR-era, Schmiedefeld, being located high in the Thuringian Forest, was a popular holiday destination, and it was served by through holiday trains from Berlin. Even in 1990/1991 it as still served by a return through train service from Magdeburg. During the communist era, East German holidaymakers would flock to Schmiedefeld to rented accommodation and holiday homes, many unable to travel further afield from the GDR. After the end of communism, express trains still ran along this secondary railway through Schmiedefeld between Themar and Erfurt, although freight traffic on this route ceased at the end of 1993. Scheduled DB passenger services ended on the line in May 1998. The line, still connected to the DB national network, is now owned by the private Rennsteigbahn freight operating company, which commenced operating services around the DB network from 2003. As well as providing the safety case for the tourist operations with private historic locomotives and carriages, it has also recently operated timber trains along sections of the Rennsteigbahn, and there's clearly no shortage of that commodity!
