I chose this picture for my frist 365 for a few reasons.
First, because it is New Years day I thought it was poetic to have so many new things jump out at me from the picture.
1) It was the days new light.
2) Mater, our "puppy" is our brand new family member.
3) It was taken with my brand new 70-200mm f2.8L IS USM lense. This baby hasn't left my camera since I put it on Christmas eve.
4) It was shot in RAW and I am going to try and shoot all my pics in RAW now.
So many of the people in the 365 project use the photo description as a type of blog and I really like that. I hope I have enough interesting things to say over the year!
A little bit about Mater....We adopted him late December from a family in a nearby town. Initially he cost us nothing, they just wanted him to go to a good home. He turned three years old in August and hadn't been to the Vet since he was 5 weeks old. He was not neutered and obviously really behind on his shots.
My wife is a vet so she took him to work and got him all up to date on his shots. She also scheduled his neuter. We suspected he had bad hips because they told us he refused to do steps at all, and he walked a little funny. He also would not let my wife extend his back legs. The day of his surgery when he was sedated they took X-rays to see what condition his hips were in.
Nobody was prepared for how bad they would be. Normally the hip joint is shaped like a C and the femur has a ball on the end that sits inside the C. Maters C is more like an I.
We had already decided that no matter what he was going to be our new family member so there was no point getting too upset. The really great part is that he shows no symptoms at all, other than the funny walk. He runs, jumps, and plays just like any other dog.
In this picture he is standing against the wall. The front door is on his right (your left) and that is where the natural light is coming from. It is also reflecting off the mirrored closet doors.
No movement. I suppose I'm not surprised, considering the chocolate involved the past week. Soldier on!

Niagara falls
First day of our trip to the North east we stopped at Niagara falls. This was my first time at the falls and thought we would be lucky to see it from the Canadian side. As we pulled there was this amazing rainbow over the mist so I was thinking easy picking POTD wise… turns out you have to park about 3 miles up the road and take a bus back to the falls. Needless to say time passed and clouds rolled in to block the sun and this is what I got. I will likely re-edit and replace this when I get home and back to the big machine. 207 lots of miles…
I walked by the flower shop today, and thought that a rose might be a nice little romatic gesture to put with dinner. He really liked it :)

Been thinking about this one for a while, it is close to what I was thinking but I would have liked a to work it for a few hours.... take ice cream and sticky kids and you get about 10 shots and done. Merry xmas... 314

(I Assume) Like many of my 365 classmates I have been laboring over what to do for my last shot of the project. There was this feeling like I needed to go out with a bang, something exceptional when compared with the rest of the collection. So the idea hatched... I would take a shot and then do more photoshop work than James Cameron had done on Avatar and I will cook up a masterpiece...I took the base shot and went to work... variations 1... 2... 5... 10... then I stepped away. They all looked good, and unique, but it just didnt feel right, not the way I wanted to close.
So this is the image I am going to leave you with... this is me (I was Nikon Man all along;-)... Nothing fancy here... 2 lights in the living room.
As far as goodbye's I am going to make it short and sweet. First - I am very thankful for the folks I met in this project, we can all attest there are days when this feels hopeless and unachievable and when things are really dark someone pulls you up. A nice comment, an inspiring image or a kick in the butt to keep you going. You are awesome (and you know who you all are)... I look forward to watching you grow as photographers and people from here on out.
Second - The folks who follow along regularly, thank for all your support and kind words. Nothing makes me happier than talking about the project and sharing some images. Glad I could include some of you in the daily shots, it was a lot of fun.
Finally - Family, you guys have supported me through what was a long and tough road and I know some of that spills over to you. Thanks for understanding, modeling, cleaning up and tolerating. I love you
I am still not sure if I will continue the project or not... I guess I can deal with that tomorrow. At a minimum I am going to do 100 portraits in 2010, this being the first one (I am cheating one day). These will not be self portraits (because I dont have the pretty for that ;-) but I hope they will be strong shots full of emotion... but we will see where I can take it.
Thanks again for everything in 2009, I am sure I will never forget it. 365
Thanks bg
