Gizmo arrived with Sophie the day previous, but he was a little more hesitant about exploring, but he did enjoy watching the squirrels play in the yard from his safe little perch.

After decorating the hall last Christmas, Chatsworth were unable to open it to the public, due to covid restrictions. This year has been rather better and I was able to resume what has become a Christmas tradition, to visit the hall with my daughter. We like to combine it with a trip to the Christmas market, which for some reason finished on 24th November, hence our early Christmas outing. Numbers have been limited with timed bookings only and it was never too crowded. There was no specific new theme, they decorated rooms with different themes from years gone by - but it was a lovely experience to enjoy.
For anyone who hasn't been, here's a virtual tour from last year's display, put out after they were unable to open to visitors. There are also a couple of Channel 4 programs from both Christmas 2019 and 2020 - I know some have been repeated on TV recently and are most likely available on catch-up, if you're interested.

I almost missed this guy hiding in the trees, but luckily he moved and caught my attention. I disappeared off the path while Scott and Sock carried on (I don't know that they noticed I veered off). This little bird didn't stick around for too many photos but I'm happy he decided to pose for a few.
I think it's a swallow, but what specific variant I'm not sure, so if you know, please share.

Another somewhat challenging macro; why I decided I need a shot of an insect today is beyond me. We've had some pretty decent wind all day and I apparently felt the need to battle that wind with my macro gear.
Not quite as sharp as I would have liked but it'll do.

The wind was really blowing this afternoon while we were out for our walk and the majority of birds were hiding away.
Luckily the wind calmed for a quick moment and I happened to spot this guy who let me fire off a shot before flying away as the wind picked back up.

I lucked out and actually heard this goldfinch singing while poking around the feeders in the backyard today.
Usually I only spot the goldfinches at the front feeder which isn't as nice of a background. I lucked out again because this little guy was not bothered by me coming out of the house and inching closer to get this shot.

I finally finished the blanket I had been working on for Fyero and while it's absolutely clear it was my first attempt at a crochet project, Fyero doesn't seem to mind all the imperfections. As for me, I'm happy to have finished and happy to be able to see how I improved as I got further into the project and can now confidently say I under the single crochet stitch... time to start a second project with a double crochet stitch!

Isolated mask
The young rookie, Federica Bonetti, presents a subject linked to the exploitation of child labor in the countries of the Middle East. The mask is making known the true story of a Pakistani child who works in a carpet factory with the dream of flying away on board one of his creatures, as in Aladdin's tale. A mask with a social background that talks about a topic, never touched before by the brushes of the Carnival, with a brave intention to make certain realities shown.
It has been a strange year in many ways, but I want to wish everyone a happy ending to it - and hopefully a great New Year. My very best wishes to all of you on Flickr and many thanks for all your views, favourites and comments over the past year. Stay well and have a wonderful Christmas.

This is how my son plays with his toy vehicles, he's got sweets all over the house. He eats a few then plays with the rest. These dolly mixtures are weeks old and rock hard.
