Up close, no one is normal
by Matteo Raciti
It is the tribute that the Sicilian artist pays to the Basaglia Law, the government act that allowed the closure of asylums and, transversely, the declaration of normality to all those who before then had been considered crazy and different
Mental illnesses take an allegorical form and remind us of the importance of recognizing madness as an integral part of the human being.
Opening the scene is Marco Cavallo, the papier-mâché animal that in 1973 was the symbol of release for patients from the last psychiatric hospital managed by Franco Basaglia in Trieste, representing the breakdown of the system by the so-called fools, who conquered the society of the presumed healthy.

Culture, colors and beauty at the 31st Annual Sycuan Powwow (9/11/2021).
Originally a Powwow or "celebration" (as it was called in older days), was held in the spring to welcome the new beginnings of life. It was a time for people to get together, sing, dance, renew old friendships and make new ones and a time for young people to meet and court. Some trace the word "Powwow" to the Algonquin language. The Europeans may have adopted that word to mean a council or meeting.

Here's to 2021! This was another good year for me in terms of Legos. Not quite as good as 2020, which saw a huge improvement in quality and quantity, but still pretty decent. I got 8 builds done this year, (minus 2-hour challenges that aren't worth sharing as their own post), which isn't very much but still my second highest in the past 4-5 years. My builds during the first half of the year are some of my most popular ever, but it seems like my more recent mocs have been slowing down in the viewership. (Maybe that's just time or is flickr becoming less and less relevant to this community?)
Anyway, I had a lot of fun building this year. My personal favorites and highlights have to be Palm Tree Escape because I had so much fun making the palm trees, The Restricted Section , which is so far my most popular moc on Flickr and may be my personal favorite moc I've built because of the techniques I used and created for it, and The Castle of Wimbly-Do , which was my favorite building experience this year.
Let me know what your favorite build of mine is! Thanks to the 499 people who follow me at the time of me posting this! Let's get that to 500:D (It's taken me quite a while and it's about time, isn't it?)
This will be my last post for 2 years. I'm serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Peru. I will be spreading the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and know that it is what I am supposed to do. I know I was never the most vocal or active member of the Lego community, but I'd like to thank everyone who's helped me with wips, been supportive, been my friend, or have been people I can look up to. Hopefully when I get back I'll be an even more active member of the community!
Let me know if Lego finally makes dark tan quarter tiles more common and if olive green tiles are finally released when I get back!

Rounding out 2022 with an average of 4 models per year for the last 2 years (same as the two years before that), I'm certainly not the most prolific builder; still, I feel incredibly lucky to have seen such positive responses to my builds over the last couple of years, with more than half of them featured in some kind of article or publication, ranging from The Brothers Brick to the Wall Street Journal.
Thank you to all 740+ (!!!) followers, whether you've been with me for years or just joined me recently, and I look forward to more builds in the new year, with some fun rare parts in the mix soon!

2021 was quite a busy year for me, but surprisingly still ended up being one of my more productive years with regards to LEGO! I ended up completing a total of 27 models, and was able to compete in several contests throughout the year.
At the top of the list is competing in Iron Builder not once, but twice! It was an honor and pleasure to face off against the incredibly talented Jayfa in February/March, and then Dan Ko in November/December. I never really thought I would have the opportunity to compete in even one IB round, so to have participated in 3 now is a bit hard to believe! And I have to say a massive thank-you to everyone who commented on builds or sent me messages throughout all of my time competing. It truly means a lot! And also a massive thank-you to Markus and Simon for doing all the behind the scenes work to make this competition possible!
As always, running the Summer Joust with Isaac and many other friends from the LEGO community was another highlight of the year. Not only did we have a record number of entries this year, but the quality was astonishing as well! It's so inspiring to see what all of you create.
Competing in the RogueOlympics for the first time was also super fun - It was one of, if not the first time I had competed in a contest with a piece limitation. I didn't expect to want to jump right into another competition after having just finished an IB round, but it proved to be really enjoyable challenge, and pushed me to build a bit differently than I was used to.
After several years, it was also so much fun to finally be able to complete a couple collabs with Isaac, and I'm already looking forward to when we are able to do another.
Overall I think this was probably my most diverse year when it comes to building - I dabbled a bit in sci-fi, steampunk, brick-built animals, life-size replicas, vehicles, microscale, characters, constraction, and even a little bit of video and stop motion (which gave me even more awe and respect for those who do stop-motion films :D).

Thank you all for continuing to inspire me through your incredible creations and for your support on all of my builds :)

With much love and excitement, I would like to introduce, and welcome, NEON's newest 2021 blogging team!
I am beyond exited to be adding new faces to NEON's roster, and can not wait to continue growing the team! I look forward to working with each and everyone of you, and cannot wait to see the amazing work that is put out!
I want to thank everyone who applied and showed interest in the NEON brand! It means the world to me! Every single one of you just blew me away with how talented you were! As of now I am keeping the team small, as I work alone as a one person team. As NEON grows as a company, I hope to continue expanding!
Applications will re open in 2022!

So I don't do dioramas often, it's just too hard getting everyone in one shot and all in focus, but sometimes I try anyway. This is Halloween 2021; we have several witches, two flappers, a cowgirl/sheriff, a Native American Princess, a scarecrow, a clown, a cat, and a couple ladies just in Halloween themed dresses. I don't know what happened to all the men, but we have eight women and five children. It's also funny to me how many have spilled their drink. I normally change my doll's poses while shooting but didn't too much for fear of knocking things over (like their drinks, lol) So here are all 24 photos of my 2021 Halloween Party, and most from a bird's-eye view.
