On the 12th. of May 2013. ‘First South Yorkshire’ (FSY) organised a bus event to mark 100 years since the introduction of the motor bus in Sheffield.
It was held at ‘FSYs Olive Grove garage which is adjacent to the
‘Midland Main Line’ about half a mile to the South of Sheffield’s railway station.
A stones throw from the garage is the site of what was Queens Road tram depot where many of Sheffields trams were built and housed.
What is now the bus parking area at Olive Grove for many years was home to
‘Sheffield United Tours’ fleet of luxury coaches which eventually passed to ‘National Travel East’.
A part of Sheffield then that is steeped in the city’s transport history.
In support of ‘FSY’ sterling efforts in putting on the show, a good selection of preserved buses attended.

Fireman Morris Bridges is sitting on the YCFD truck #2 along with his niece. The photo was taken around 1940. The truck is sitting in front of the original Firehouse #2 located on College Street. This building was torn down in the early 1950's and replaced with a brick firehouse. The truck was also replaced about the same time with a Series 700 American LaFrance pumper. Firehouse #2 was closed in the 1970's. The women on the truck and next to the truck are not known.

‘Scene’ at ‘derbyshire community transport’s public launch
on Dennis Basford’s railsroadsrunways.blogspot.co.uk’
Over the years that I have been producing this blog I have referred from time to time to my involvement in the ‘Community Transport’ sector.
Initially with ‘Amber Valley Community Transport’ based in Ripley, Derbyshire which became ‘CT4TC’ (Community Transport for Town and County) in 2011 when the
‘Chesterfield Community Transport’ operation was taken over. An additional base in North Nottinghamshire following more recently.
The most recent developement saw ‘CT4TC’ merge with ‘HCT Group’ which has its origins in ‘Hackney Community Transport’ (HCT) based in North London.
HCT’s business model is unusual in that they operate commercially in the provision of bus services in competition with the big groups with any profits generated used to fund local
‘Community Transport’ operations.
A brief look at HCT’s portfolio reveals operations in London, Bristol, the Channel Islands, Manchester, and West Yorkshire amongst others.
There looks to be interesting times ahead for transport in this part of the East Midlands.
Watch this space!
The new livery was revealed to the public on the 4th. of May 2018.
