Col·lodió Old Workhorse de Franalog.

=====================
A great deal of the Soviet camera industry derived from WW2 war bouty, as they cloned (and in fact improved) German cameras from the 30's. But they are not only cheap imitations. Some are superb cameras which give great images and fun. Here's an Arsenal Kiev III (Contax III), a KMZ Moskva-4 (Super Ikonta 531/2) and a Zorki-4 (quite modified Leica II).
Tintype in 4x5 format, made with a Graflex Pacemaker Speed Graphic (from 1949); Kodak Anastigmat f4.5 lens; Old Workhorse collodion by Franalog.
The collodion plates are made covering a glass plate or black metal plate with collodion and salts of cadmium and / or potassium, sensitized with silver nitrate. Then you have to take the photo and reveal it in about 5 minutes, before the emulsion dries. It is one of the oldest photographic processes in the World, invented in 1851, and which dominated photography until 1880. But now it has resurfaced, as the images, very elaborate to create, that it gives are unique, razor sharp, magical and unrepeatable.

1.i have date night every friday night, even if no one else is here to share it.
date night involves me taking a bath and lighting about 50 candles in the living room.
i put on some groovy tunes and something satiny and drink something alcoholic and cuddle up to the softest
blanket ever and yeah, that is about it.
2.i have another date night every saturday night, with my best friend jessica.
it usually involves kung pao tofo and peppers and some crappy romantic comedy
and a crafty creative project.
3.i have 2 bathrooms in my place. one of them has doorknob issues. everyone who
has ever used it freaks out because they think they can't open the door. actually,
you just have to turn the knob the other direction ( to the left ) ... but trust me on this
... almost every doorknob is supposed to turn to the right.
4.i don't watch that much tv anymore but i have noticed that my favorite shows over the
years are ones that involve major sexual tension between the main characters ( i.e. moonlighting,
who's the boss, x files etc.)
5.i have temperature issues in bed.
i am usually naked or in a slip at night.
if i am really cold, i love tons of warm blankets
and if i am really warm, i love one super cold sheet wrapped around me.
6.i have a fascination with Starbucks Iced tea Lemonade concoction.
i have yet to find a barista make it the same way twice and i know they have
directions for all their drinks.
i finally found a man who made it perfectly
it used to be my favorite drink there
...
he quit and now no one makes it good anymore.
7.i have serious light bulb issues in this apartment.
with all my ceiling lights, bathroom lights, kitchen lights, bedroom lights, etc.
i probably manage to kill 2 light bulbs a week.
even on a step stool i can't reach them, so i have to wait until saturday night date night
to have my tall best friend change my bulbs.
i spoke to her earlier tonight and told her she needs to come over tomorrow
because if i wait any longer, i am going to be sitting here in the dark.
8.i've been thinking about quitting my job and moving.
something very unlike me but i really feel as if i need a change.
i don't know where i'd go. i have ideas, but not really.
all my friends and family are here.
i have a good job at a company i have been with now starting 8 years.
i just need something different somewhere else.
9.one of my favorite ice creams is Nestle's King Size Drumstick ice cream cones.
my friend just came by and i made him drive me to 7-11 to get one and i gobbled that fucker right up.
yum!
10.i've been really poopy all year.
i am not used to this feeling of gloom.
i find myself crying far too much and it kind of sucks.
i don't really have it in me to go on more about that, so pffft.
11.i have a magnetic dart board on the back of my front door.
i suck at it.
with practice i am sure i could get better.
these magnetic darts are what suck, not me.
12.which reminds me, i used to love to shoot pool.
i grew up with a pool table ( my parents own one)
and i used to frequent a coffee house in high school that had one.
sadly, the coffee shop table had this horrid tilt and i had to learn the tricks and secrets
of how to play on that table..but when new comers would play, i managed to kick and ass
or two.
13.i collect wrapping paper, but not in a Dyxie way :P
i have this tall clear glass vase with rolls of beautifully printed wrapping
paper sticking out of it. i use it as art or something.
once in a while, if i am feeling crafty, i cover a coffee can in it, or frame it, or cover
my refrigerator in it, or wrap a pringles can in it for my ttv contraption.

While I was stuck at home with a cold few month ago, I took some pictures of the sunflowers I bought at Trader Joe's just before. I used 3 different lenses to see how the outcomes will differ. This capture was taken on Helios 44-2. I prefer to photograph flowers in nature and not indoors, but with this experience, I now started buying flowers at the local Farmer's market regularly and photographing them at home. And this how my series "Flowers at home" has started. :-)

I want to be the last woman
The final, the concluding
Not coaxed, but married
With the clear light of your abode
Good morning and a quiet harbor
And a maddening desire
I want to be the control shot
And your last confession
I don’t know how to live on less
Why are you looking into my eyes so intently?
I want to be the last woman…
Just a woman, and the only one…
I don’t know how to live on less!
Why are you looking into my eyes so intently?
I want to be the last woman...
Just a woman, and the only one...
[Verse 2]
I want to be your wings
This light, reliable burden
I want to be your stories
Within time and timelessly
I want to be the last woman
Final, final
Not coaxed, but married
With the clear light of your abode
[Chorus]
I don't know how to live on less
Why are you looking into my eyes so intently?
I want to be the last woman...
Just a woman, and the only one...
I don't know how to live on less!
Why are you looking into my eyes so intently?
I want to be the last woman...
Just a woman, and the only one...

Just waiting on those tan turret pieces from Bricklink (please hurry Canada Post!). Brought the Leopard along to a NALUG meeting the other evening, and was informed that my tan 4x4 "umbrella" was a little small. So this afternoon I checked my mailbox looking for the tan wedges. Instead, I found to my surprise a 6x6 Verdant green umbrella! It still fits the Leopard too, since there was variety among umbrella colours in Afghanistan. So yeah, big thank you to Forbes* for the umbrella!
Other than the new hat, I managed to pick up a set of 1x1 LED studs from Brickstuff during BBTB. They make excellent headlamps for the Leopard 2! I'll see if I can get some low light shots in the next few days that can really show off their effect :D
That's all for now!

A tiny mass-produced starfighter designed for use in large fleets as a scout or light fighter.

Entry to the Small Starfighter Contest.
Well, it's been nearly six weeks since I last posted anything. I have my reasons though.
1) Homefront building, which is completed.
2) I now have a job.
3) Trying to finish Eagle Scout and another project before the end of next school year.
4) Swim team.
Takes up a lot of time, those four things. And it's summer. Gosh.
Hopefully next summer will be more restful.
Oh, and this will be coming to BF with me, along with another small starfighter that will hopefully be better designed. :P
I'll be there probably Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and just long enough on Sunday to pick up my stuff and finish up.

_Willis Building, City of London - Architect Sir Norman Foster_ www.juliaannagospodarou.com
We are what we create.
I have no doubt about it. We might be searching for a way of expression for long years and try a lot of things till we find it, we may be struggling with prejudice and limitations, with doubt and with being misunderstood, we may have to ignore common sense and go against the flow, we may have to figure out new ways of escaping what we call reason, what we call reality (what is reality anyway?) but in the end, what we will settle for can only be that very thing that expresses what we are completely, that helps us feel accomplished and free, that helps a restless soul find peace and allow us to stop and take a breath. If you look at this image you will see very much of what I am. I won't explain it, I don't want to limit your imagination. :) I will say just one thing: whatever this journey may take, do it! It's much better to burn out searching than never know...
OK, now that we said what was important, here's a few words about this image. First, it's been two and a half months since my last architectural image, which may seem a lot but it actually isn't for me, as I've done a lot of searching, discovered a lot of things, even worked on a handful of images that are to come soon. I've done some thinking, I've done some experimenting and the results will show in the months to come. I've even tried to step away from architectural photography to see how it is, but despite the fact that I love all kinds of photography, I think my call is architectural photography. There's nothing I love more than working with shapes and light, nothing I like more than abstracting a volume till it shows a part that would hardly show to the naked eye. I finally understood what I'm trying to do in photography and that is exactly what I'm doing in architecture too. I am designing my photographs to suit my vision. I am deconstructing the volumes I see and recomposing them using light and shadow, I am in essence using the existing subject, I'm using reality as a base on which I build my own dreams. Photography, architectural photography is the tool my imagination needs to stay alive and to express itself. It would be interesting I think to show you the RAW file of this image. I'm sure you wouldn't recognize much of what you see here in that image. But hey, you will tell me, that's manipulation! Well, yes, you're perfectly right, I will answer you! But who said I want to do traditional photography anyway? This may not even be photography, as a matter of fact. This may be something else. This IS something else! As I was calling it a while ago while discussing with a friend, this is “(en)visionography”. More on this concept coming soon...
And at last a few words about the image and the processing side of it... But, since this is getting long, let's better move over to my site if you want to read more about processing and also to read my answer to a question I'm getting quite often lately, a question about my skies... blog.juliaannagospodarou.com/ode-to-black-iii-extreme-bla...

Thought I'd give this free programme a trial using Silver Efex 2. I think mono suits architecture or mechanical things best - might give that a try.

I must write out a 100 times: 'I must keep it simple'. I never seem to manage it. I think I just about got away with this - the harsh backlight, the strobe through brolly which kept falling over on camera left at about 1/4 power and one other strobe that had already fallen in the drink. Still, marvellous shoot with an amazing model: Ella. And we tried a concept part to this location which I will get round to adding.

Dry Plate photograph made with the Voigtlander Petzval lens on the B&J 5x7.
Approx. 1/4 second exposure, wide open.
Hand made dry plate negative using the Foma liquid emulsion, developed for 3 minutes in D-23 diluted 1:2. I'm liking the results!
As much as I like (and prefer) the wet plate collodion technique for making negatives, I have grown weary of the limitations it imposes: always working within proximity of the darkroom, or taking a portable darkroom with me. The latter is often not possible. So, my compromise is: make my own dry plate negatives, which I can use anywhere. They still allow me to use the same limited spectral sensitivity (the emulsion is red blind) and the plates have imperfections, but they aren't the nuisance that wet plate negatives are to make.

On Sunday evening I set out to take some late afternoon/sunset shots. As I was driving back from the spot where I had just shot 300+ HDR source images, I spotted this shiny dumptruck by the side of the road. Shooting this allowed me to put the versatility of my tripod to good use -- I had to adjust one leg out so that I could get a lower angle for the shot. So yes, like a fool I was on the asphalt in a very contorted position trying to get a shot. I have to say that I'm very careful when I shoot while crouching/lying down on the asphalt. I'm hoping being careful (and perhaps lucky) allows me to get good shots without getting run over. This is a blend of seven source images. Here's the process:
My recipe for this shot:
1. I started with 7 source images, which I processed in Photomatix Pro and exported to a 16-bit TIFF file.
2. I imported the TIFF into Lightroom and basically just did spot removal and lightly reduced the noise before exporting it to JPEG.
3. Next I opened the JPEG in Photoshop and used the Unsharp Mask filter, which brought out some of the detail in the grill of the truck really nicely. After that, I added my border and logo and voila' it was ready for upload!
4. I sat on the file for about 18 hours and looked at it a few times before deciding to post it. I've been doing this more and more with images that have heavy HDR characteristics.
I realized early on that once I've been working on an image for some time, I am too invested to be objective about whether it's good, bad, too HDR-heavy or not enough. Revisiting images with a fresh eye is my reality check. It's been working pretty well too.
In case you're interested, this photo was also uploaded to 500px, where it has been much more successful than I expected (images I upload over there seem to be hit or miss). This was definitely a hit, which was a nice but unexpected surprise.
