Thanks a lot for your views, comments and favs :-)
Explored Aug 15, 2011 #2 I love this shot, thanks everyone.
Had a great time watching the Red Arrows display yesterday.
The view from the Clifton Observatory was fantastic, the clouds parted and blue skies ment there was standing room only.
Update
Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging of the Royal Air Force aerobatics team (The Red Arrows) died when his Hawk T1 "Red 4" crashed near Bournemouth Airport after a display yesterday, Saturday 20th August 2011.

Oooooo, aaaaaaahhhh :-)
Type "L" to see the image on black (highly recommended).
I've been struggling all year to bring things up into a new level with my star photography. It's been difficult to do that because 1, I'm not quite sure who/what/where/when I want to go to this "new level" and 2, I've been trying to put attention and effort in so many other areas, I haven't been out relentlessly shooting and experimenting as I want to be.
But, I feel like this one is stepping out into that new area I'm trying to find. Still not sure what it is- but I feel like with this image, I'm closer than I was before.
That's exciting to me :-)
Once I become stagnant, I'm done. Experimentation is my fuel.
What do you think?
This was taken earlier in the month, an hour after leaving a "Star Party" up on Mt Hood. It was fun! Telescopes, binoculars- all kinds of stuff set up to share and learn from. Around midnight, we were ready to move on, so following Gary Randall, we all headed down here to Trillium Lake. This place is beautiful. And, Gary is the master of Trillium Lake/Mt Hood shots!
Acrylic media. Lemon Street gallery I did many years ago. I'm a Street gallery number 2. I finished January 5, 2017. For some reason the data my camera when the picture was taken. My wife used to take all my photos of my art. Now I'm starting to learn how to do it. I haven't figured out to change the date on the camera.

Belém Tower, officially the Tower of Saint Vincent is a 16th-century fortification located in Lisbon that served as a point of embarkation and disembarkation for Portuguese explorers and as a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon. This tower symbolizes Portugal's maritime and colonial power in early modern Europe. Wikipedia
A different take on a classic scene. I have many photos of this bridge with the pier pilings in front. Decided to zoom in, then had a play with Analog Efex 2. I like how it turned out!
This photo was taken a few months ago. This is a Photomatix HDR photo made from three exposures. +2,0,-2. I then cropped to my liking and did some sdjustments in Photoshop. If you want to know more about how I process my work feel free to ask.

333 is my favorite number:)
This is inspired by lots and lots of photos, but the only one I can remember is this.
I feel like I never write descriptions anymore, so I'm going to ramble on about unimportant things now. Tomorrow starts my last whole week of high school. I graduate a week from wednesday. There are about 700 kids in my class, and I was runner up for most likely to be late to graduation. I think I have a problem. I can't believe there are only 32 days left in this project. Which means 32 days until deathly hallows part 2:)) I set up a society 6 shop and a red bubble shop last night because I was bored, and because they don't cost any money so why not?
Lighting info: Lit with a Yongnuo strobe in manual mode at camera left. Fill light is from a hand mirror at camera right.
The flash was triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N. I converted this image into black and white using Nik Software's Silver Efex Pro 2.
I've photographed a lot of plants and flowers, because they're all around us, work cheap, and never complain. I have an album of these images with over 1300 pictures, and for each one, I have described how I lit them, in case you're interested in that kind of thing.

The Alviso Marina County Park in Alviso, California, is always fun to visit. It's only 20 min from home, so I like to go there once in a while for sunset. I took this shot of an Amtrak train half an hour after sunset with a Canon 50mm f1.2 vintage lens at f1.2.
I processed a balanced HDR photo from a RAW exposure, and carefully pulled the curves.

A deep carpet of red- and golden-tinged dwarf birch and willows lines both sides of the milky blue, glacial waters of Dinwoody Creek as it flows under Ink Wells Bridge, Fitzpatrick Wilderness, Wind River Range, Wyoming.
After saying 'Dinwoody' enough times, I gradually morphed the word into 'Dim Woody', and my hiking partner and I then began to develop the tale of Old Dim Woody whose spirit still roams these parts. Without screens or responsibilities, and with enough time on our hands doing nothing but walking through beautiful country, the mind rapidly unspools into wanton ridiculousness. It seemed likely that Old Dim Woody was a tad fond of his sipping whiskey, and when his spirits were high and besotted, he was prone to bouts of poor decision making. Things only got worse when a neighbor's mare kicked him in the pate one night when the rye was particularly enchanting and he mistook her for a spittoon.
One September after this unfortunate event, an autumn snow-storm blew in when Old Dim Woody was camped at Ink Wells. Sometime during the night his pony became infected with a bit of madness and threatened to break its hobble. The hapless man tried to calm his hoofed companion but to no avail: Dim Woody was never too meticulous about maintenance, and the hobble leather was old and rotted. The pony broke free and headed over the bridge and upstream through the forest at an impressive speed for one with such stubby legs. In fact, its diminutive stature may have helped it avoid some of the boughs already pressed low by the accumulating snow as it heedlessly fled upward toward the headwaters. Pondering the situation for perhaps too-brief a time, Old Dim Woody slapped his battered hat onto his dented head, invigorated his mind with another dram of rye, pushed through the flap of his tent, and began to follow the already-filling tracks of his erstwhile steed.
The tracks wound ever higher and the temperature was cold. Not quite cold enough to tingle and freeze the nose hairs upon the inhale, but cold enough that his toes became numb once the snow that kept knocking into the tops of his boots eventually overwhelmed the capacity of his feet to produce heat. The pony's tracks were faint but continually bore upward, past timberline and toward the giant cirque of peaks that held the glacier that fed the creek. If he stopped for too long, he shivered, sometimes violently. It was difficult to move through the rocks once the snow hid the deep cracks between them. He discovered that the coefficient of static friction between his boots and the icy boulders was perilously low. Once, his foot became tightly wedged between two large, immovable stones and it took him several increasingly panicky minutes to extricate it. The sky was filled with snow and then a surprise clap of thunder sobered him up as waves of kettle-drum sound crashed amongst the ice-clad peaks. The lightning followed immediately and was so bright it lit up the atmosphere. It was like being deep underwater beneath a violent falls under the dazzling sun, bright snow bubbles everywhere and impossible to tell which way was up.
Nobody knows exactly what happened to Old Dim Woody on that fateful night. His empty tent was discovered by some trappers seeking late-season beaver a month or so later. There were fresh pony tracks over the bridge and horse dung inside the tent. The small cache of oats that Old Dim Woody kept in a can near the wood-stove had been raided. They say the moaning wind of the first winter storm is the sound of Dim Woody howling amongst the rocks, looking for tracks and pining for another dram.

In the heady days of the 1970's when the railways had so much activity to watch and savour. Here a Class 25 is trundling along with a rake of china clay "hoods" - an improvement for the clay being transported from the previous tarpaulin covers which could, and did, leak water and contaminate the clay.
In earlier times this working would probably have been hauled by a NBL Type 2.
I don't think it has come off the branch to Carne Point as the workings seem to come through Lostwithiel on the other track and in any event it would have been very tight given the down side is signalled for a train.
Off to the left can be seen another rake of clay "hoods".
The buildings on the down side were subject to a Grade "X" listing but were demolished by mistake.
(The correct listing is unknown.)

i don't really know whether i must tag someone else. i leave it up to you.
When it comes to photography, I only have three self-imposed rules that I'll never break...
1. I will never discard details by clipping the highlights and/or shadows, so I will always be a slave to my histogram. If I need to capture multiple different exposures and blend them together in Photoshop afterwards, then that is what I'll do.
2. I always try to capture (and edit) every photo as accurately as I am able to, as close as possible to what my eyes and brain experienced at the time. This is one of the reasons why I'd much rather shoot a multiple-image panorama at 50mm (the approximate focal-length of our eyes), than capturing everything in a single shot with (all the distortions of) an ultra-wide lens.
3. Despite the obvious temptation to use AI to assist in editing my photos, this will never be an option for me. Anyone who ever sees one of my photos should (hopefully) never question its authenticity. I will admit that the current AIs already produce images that are much more eye-catching and "perfect" than anything that I could ever capture, so my only option is to always remain as "real" as possible.
The biggest downside to these rules is that sometimes the most accurate representation of an amazing scene looks dull and boring (in 2-dimensions) on a phone and/or computer screen. This panorama is a good example of that. The histogram is bunched-up towards the middle, with no danger of clipping any details. It would be easy to stretch out the histogram to brighten this pano and make it "pop" a lot more, but would it still be real? I captured these photos about 30 minutes before sunrise. Yes it was very dark and yes this photo isn't that visually exciting, but yes... it is 100% real.
That's all that matters to me.
A big thankyou to SeductiveLies for purchasing me my new Pro account! much appreciated!
My Uncle gave me new lenses :) all nice old film lenses :D hence why if you check the data, some information is not there. I like having to manual focus and exposure the picture etc, hard to manual focus on this little fella though, he kept moving! But caught him at just the right moment :D this was my 35mm f/2 lens. image croped, shot at f/2.
I also was given a 20mm and a Mirco lens.

This post is somewhat daring: a deadpan self-portrait. For those interested, there is an explanation below. But it may well be skipped.
Since I have made a few (underlining "few") deadpan portraits, I have been asked to keep a workshop in deadpan portrait photography. But it comes with certain limitations. The workshop shall be in a studio, photos shall be in monochrome, and they shall preferably be in square format. (My gravitation towards square is well known)
But:
1. I am no portrait photographer, others are.
2. I don't know much about studio photography, lightning, etc, others do.
3. I have always used muted colors, never monochrome when shooting deadpan portraits. Those I know (Alec Soth, Jitka Hanzlowa, Elene Brotherus, and more) also use color.
4. But I know something about deadpan photography.
So I agreed to contribute, not to "keep". But when looking more into this, I came across Lee Friedlander, known for his social landscapes, but also for his deadpan approach, including (self-)portraits.
I had to try myself, even though I dislike being in front of the camera, and not behind it. Deadpan involves a neutral and emotionally detached approach on behalf of the photographer, and the model shall express absolutely nothing, leaving interpretations to the viewer.
I find the model role the most difficult. I am biased toward signaling what I wish people would think of me (we are a social species), instead of being captured without playing our social roles. I guess we are built that way. But I had to try. And if I look at the self-portraits of Friedlander, I suppose it is all about courage.
hey everybody!
I've made a tumblr just for my photography, it would be amazing if you followed it!

Backpacking on the White Sands in New Mexico was quite the experience. The silence was deafining and peaceful. The white sand didn't get hot so I walked around barefoot most of the time, it was freezing cold at night so I kept my boots on for this shot at 3am!
Taken with a 24mm rokinon, 2 images...one for the foreground at ISO 1600 for 2 minutes and the sky at ISO 6400 for 20 seconds both at f/2, I manually blended them together and used luminosity masks to enhance the image.
I was tagged by Nick to play the 16 game so here we go....
1. I've lived in Georgia my entire life. I say "ya'll" and eat collard greens and stuff.
2. I love horror movies. And they don't make em' like they use to.
3. I drive FAST. I've gotten several speeding tickets....paid one. It's all in who you know. And when that cop said "I've been waiting for you all day" he didn't think it was very funny when I said "I got here as fast as I could".
4. I don't trust anyone 100%
5. I'm one of the most stubborn people you'll ever meet
6. I absolutely hate talking on the phone, unless I'm in my car and there's no good music to listen to. And I'm terrible at returning calls. If I don't call you back please don't be offended. In fact, I'll text you.
7. Speaking of music, I couldn't live without it....it's necessary in my life
8. I'm very open-minded and liberal in my thinking and beliefs......as long as you agree with me. Kidding! I really am. Its very difficult to offend me.
9. My favorite thing to do is eat. Don't mess with me and my food, I'm serious. I used to pay this kid a quarter every day in school for his dessert.
10. I've been skydiving twice (wooohooo!) but could never bungee jump
11. If I wasn't a pharmacist or a "picture-taker", I'd be an interior designer.....or maybe one of those bathroom attendants that hand out paper towels. That would be interesting. You have no idea what I've seen and heard in the bathroom at work.
12. I get extremely annoyed with stupid drivers. Why can't anybody drive??!!!! People that don't get the concept of "incoming traffic doesn't stop" need to be ran over. Learn the rules of a four-way stop!! And slow drivers in the left lane.....woooo buddy.
13. I hate roaches, they're the worst things on earth. And if someone promised me a million dollars to eat one....even chocolate covered...I couldn't do it.
14. I'm an insomniac and do my best work at night.
15. Most people disagree with me on this, but I think the Rolling Stones are extremely overrated and have a hard time understanding why they are famous.
16. This was fun. It surprised me. Oh, and I really really love rain....and if there is really stormy thunder and lightning, even better!
Okay, so now I have to tag 2 people. I tag Phillip Fry and normal but special. I want to know more about "ya'll" :-)

It was in 1976 that my sister returned from a holiday in France with the record "Vancouver" by French singer/songwriter Véronique Sanson. That music gripped me and never let me go! My sister's record became my record, I became a super fan, and these songs became part of my very identity! In 1979 I saw Véronique in concert in Düsseldorf (Germany), a definite highlight in my life!
The photo from 1980 shows me with all seven of Véronique's albums at the time. While I no longer have the rest of my record collection, I do still have my Véronique records to this day! It's really pretty amazing because:
1) I haven't owned a record player for several decades now.
2) I've moved a total of 10 times since 1980.
3) I have some of these on CD.
4) I can listen to them on YouTube.
5) I'm a bit of a minimalist with not much furniture and things.
But still ... I just can't let go of these records.
Even after 44 years, it's still a pleasure to handle the large squares of cardboard and look at the familiar pictures. There was a graceful technique required that had to be learned for removing records from their sleeves, flipping sides and gently setting down the needle. Then there followed the slight crackling sound, at which point the heart swelled with anticipation waiting for the first note! Plastic CDs never came close to this experience.
No. I just can't let go of these records!
If you're curious, here is Véronique's song Vancouver on YouTube.

Clockwork Greeble For Greeble de Mayo Week 2
I missed week 2 due to a family emergency but I bought some Lego from a garage sale while away from home and made this. I think I'm going to try the rest of the weeks from this same garage sale supply, even though I missed the weeks for submission. It's like a little challenge for myself of what I can build with such a small collection.
Paramore - Misery Business
VERSE ONE:
I'm in the business of misery let's take it from the
top
She's gotta body like an hour glass that's ticking
like a clock
it's just a matter of time before we all run out
but when I thought he was mine she caught him by the
mouth
(PT.2):
I waited eight long months she finally set him free
I told him I couldn't lie he was the only one for me
two weeks and we had caught on fire
she's got it out for me but i wear the biggest smile
CHORUS:
No, I never meant to brag... but i got him where i
want him now.
Oh it was never my intention to brag... to steal it
all away from you now
But God does it feel so good cause I got him where I
want him now
if you could then you know you would
cause God it just feels so...
It's just feels so good.
VERSE TWO:
Second chances they don't ever matter, people never
change
Once a whore you're nothing more and you know that
will never change
and about forgiveness, we're both supposed to have
exchanged.
sorry honey but i passed it up, now look this way
(PT. 2):
Well, there's a million other girls that do it just
like you
looking as innocent as possible to get to who they
want and what they like
it's easy if you do it right
well i refuse, i refuse, i refuse.
CHORUS:
No, I never meant to brag... but i got him where i
want him now.
Oh it was never my intention to brag... to steal it
all away from you now
But God does it feel so good to take it all away from
you now
if you could then you know you would
cause God it just feels so...
It's just feels so good.
BRIDGE:
I watched his wildest dreams come true
Not one of them involving you
Just watch my wildest dreams come true
Not one of them involving...
Two important conclusions from my recent ruminations:
1. I don't take enough happy pictures.
2. I need to start shooting self-portraits again.
I also have a huge roll of film that will be developed some time in the coming week. (:
