1) My wife is in training to be a Montessori Guide, which is basically a Masters degree in nine months, so i have lost a wife and Maggie has lost a mother until June.
2) i started my Flickr account because of #1. we needed to rent our house in Texas for the nine months we are here in Minnesota. i had heard of Flickr and thought it would be a good way to show pictures of our home and land to potential renters. i didn't realize it would turn into this addiction!!
3) Before i settled down with my wife, i was homeless and jobless for nearly five years...living most of that time out of a van and driving around the country.
4) When i settled down with my wife i came off the road, got engaged, bought a house without a job, got a job, got pregnant, quit my job, got married, had a daughter, got another job...all in under a year and a half.
5) i rotate between visual art, singing & playing guitar, and writing...but these days it's full time papa with little time that's mine.
6) neither my wife and i are working right now, and neither have any idea how we are making it, but we eat every day and have a place to live and we are surrounded by Love and Community.
7) my upper lip has never seen a razor, from the first peach fuzz of adolescence to today.
8) i drink too much coffee and smoke too much
9) our dog's full name is" Dale Ana Evans Half-Tail Scarface Screen-Killer Humper"
10) i usually have no idea what the hell i'm doing.
11) (bonus round)...i told myself i'd never do this if i was ever tagged...go figure...

One of the birds I really wanted to see in Africa, this blue waxbill (Uraeginthus angolensis) was one of 2 I saw and I did manage to get one shot.

16. aahh.. and my friends know they shouldn't call me too early in the morning.. i'm very grumpy and able to say only "no" before hanging off.. once my friend called me 7 times every 5 min around 5.30 a.m.. before I agreed to follow her at her unintentional daytrip out of town.. we had a wonderful day in the end and she knew before calling me i'd love it LOL :-))))))

Oh how I love the rain....let me count the ways:

I've had one pack of original Polaroid 600 film for ages so I decided this year was the year to use it. I loved the faded tones but when I came to scan it, I refreshed my scanners software and it asked me if I wished to restore colours. I think both methods have their charm and I'm liking the way the stripes in the emulsion are all much more saturated.

I photographed this beautiful raptor this past weekend at Hawk Watch, which is put on every Saturday at 10 a.m. in January and February at the Wildlife Research Institute in Ramona, California. Although it's called Hawk Watch they also display and educate the public on owls. I've gone to this event quite a few times over the years, but this is the first time that I've used my infrared camera there. I converted the image to black and white using Nik Software's Silver Efex Pro 2.
I've been taking infrared images for at least 18 years with a total of 3 different cameras. It's much easier to take infrared images digitally that it was in the film days. If you like this look, I have an album of infrared photographs, creatively named Infrared.

I have been to False Kiva 4 times in the past year with every intention of doing a shot similar to this at night. I ran into 2 problems:
1) I did not have a lens wide enough for this. This scene was shot as a single row pano with my UWA. I shoot crop and my widest lens at 10 mm is still not wide enough to cover this scene in a single shot which would make photographing the Milky Way more difficult.
2) I own a star tracker to get exceptional Milky Way shots and wanted no less for this shot. However, those trackers need to be aligned with Polaris which is hidden once inside this location. It is probably possible to align the tracker without this star visible but I lack the expertise to do this with any degree of accuracy.
I am generally against compositing images but due to the limitations above I had no other options that would yield similar results. Interestingly it took me months before I finally around to creating this, but alas, it is finally done!

For those who have been following along with the saga of the solar-powered faux candles - here they are!! And I learned several things in the process of getting them to function:
1) when faced with big jobs like tax info organization, I will instead choose smaller more manageable tasks,
2) I am like a terrier with a bone, I’ll keep at it until I’m pleased with the results,
3) problem solving is best done after a nap - my brain evidently comes up with possibilities as I sleep,
4) when in doubt, go back to the source to see if they give you clues as to how to proceed or to solve,
5) FB’s bots follow all your likes and will put things in your path to buy again - probably IG and Amazon too,
6) I am often so anxious to show you things that I put up pictures of things that aren’t picture perfect - I should clean them up before posting

I have been tagged by Louisa Hennessy and Coco Rose so here are ten things about me:
1.When I was four, I was the May Queen at nursery school.
2.I hate bananas. My mom says I liked them when I was a child and has a photo to prove it. She misses the point that I am crying in the photo. I have always hated bananas.
3.When I was maybe four or five, I wanted to understand how my memory worked. So I invented a character that lived in my head and she filed away every scrap of information I ever got. When I wanted to remember something, she would go to her filing system and bring the information out, just like a book at a library. As I got older and wiser and more into technology, my librarian upgraded from a manual card indexing system to a computerised one. She uses Windows, so it crashes quite a lot these days and, more often than not, we find it incredibly difficult to retrieve any information at all, or we get the wrong things out altogether. Perhaps we should go back to the old-fashioned way or remembering stuff.
4.When I was a kid, I’d play at my cousins’ place a lot (sadly it is now an hotel, www.fanhams-hall-hotel.com/, but this is where I did most of my growing up). It was a pretty big place with acres of grounds and in it, there was a “mountain” (it was really a man-made ornamental Japanese hill but it seemed very big to us). You could climb the mountain using the path or scramble up the sides, the hard way. I liked to use the hard way more often than not, it was more rewarding and I always felt a sense of achievement having made it to the summit.
5.My first bicycle grew from a rusty nail that my dad planted in the garden one night. He said a magic spell over it, planted it in the vegetable plot at the side of our house, and in the morning – hey presto! a bike! I was pretty damned pleased with that. I still plant rusty nails on the off-chance…
6.I had a rabbit called Bobo when I was three. He became she when she had baby bunnies and we called her Bobette. My dad told me one Sunday lunchtime that we were having Bobo for lunch; he had a pretty weird sense of humour. I didn’t eat lunch, and I went off meat in a pretty big way. I am a vegan now and this is a way of life for me, so I have my father to thank.
7.My parents split up when I was ten and although it was a relief after all the rows and arguments, I had to grow up really fast to help my mom because she became a bit of a basket case for a while.
8.I grew up an only child but I always, always would have liked older brothers, I thought this would be pretty cool. When I was twenty and had moved away from home to get my own flat in London, I found out that lo-and-behold! my dad had been married before he met my mom and I had two older half-brothers!! They are great and I love them both hugely.
9.Spending most of my childhood at my cousins’ place, I developed a passion for all things Oriental. The gardens where we played have had a massive impact on how I see the world and inspired at an early age a desire to travel. I took my first solo trip abroad when I was fifteen…to Paris. Admittedly I stayed with my pen friend and her family, but I was let loose on a plane and an airport and I was hooked. I moved to Paris a couple of years later, I really like the place a lot. Since then the travel bug has always been with me and even though I’ve had to spend time in England, I am always off somewhere, be it in my head or for real. The next big trip is always around the corner…
10.My dad taught me a lot. He was an artist and he taught me to paint, to look at art works and to form my own tastes and opinions. He engendered in me a love for literature. He hadn’t travelled a lot but through reading he had been around the world many times. He taught me how to have my photograph taken and to never be afraid of the camera but always to be wary of the person behind it because they may lack the skill to make a beautiful or meaningful picture. He gave me my first cameras, an incredibly huge Polaroid and several disposable cameras.
Taken with a Takumar 58/2. I've played and played and played with the processing on this one. All sorts of different filters and film looks - to try and cope with the complexity of the bokeh. Here's my most recent attempt. It's time to post and hope you like it!

In celebration of Season 2, I have a giant group of all the main characters. Most of them are just amalgams of official parts, but some feature painted details. Also, a few parts of this photo were edited, such as Dustin’s hair which was originally tan, and Hop’s beard which was an orange color.

We are now back to normal internet connectivity, I'll post more photos of this Europe trip over the coming weeks.
This is Chur, the capital of Graubünden (Grisons), the largest and easternmost canton of Switzerland. I took this shot in the late afternoon against the sun from the Kantonsschule, the high school I attended eons ago. The town has a well preserved historical downtown.
Home sweet home for two reasons:
1. We are just back home in the Silicon Valley after a 2 weeks vacation in Europe.
2. I went to school in this city.
I processed a paintery and a balanced HDR photo from three RAW exposures, merged them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves to pop the scene.

13- I don´t like forced holidays, when you have to celebrate a concrete day because calendar says it, I prefer to choose my free days of parties…
14- I hate routine, I like looking for new experiences.

1- Me llamo Carmen y vivo en una de las ciudades más bonitas que conozco: Santander. Me encanta mi familia, el mar, navegar...... y las muñecas blythe.

9- Valoro mucho la amistad. Soy, o me considero, muy amiga de mis amig@s.
10- Colaboro en una asociación a la que dedico muchas horas. Algunos dicen que soy defensora de causas perdidas, pero la verdad es que cuando creo en algo, sigo adelante hasta agotar todos los recursos.
11- Me encanta hacer fotos, voy con la cámara a casi todas partes, pero sobre todo fotos de las personas a las q quiero para recordaros en esos momentos en los que duelen ausencias, esos que reconfortan los recuerdos.
12- Soy una hipocondríaca, que le voy a hacer. No soy perfecta ni lo pretendo, y hay cosas de mí que no me gustan, y otras que, a lo mejor, no le gustarán a los que me rodean, pero no creo que cambiar de repente hiciera de mi alguien mejor.
13- No me gustan las fiestas “ de calendario” prefiero festejar libremente....
14- También me gusta experimentar cosas nuevas, cambiar la rutina y escuchar....

Most favorited, viewed & commented - yet somehow NOT "most interesting". And still has not shown up on the "Explore " page ! ***(edit: YES !! Made it to # 2, I think, as of April 21, 2005)***
A poppy at Sutter's Fort, Sacramento, backlit by the sun. I've been disappointed by the number of poppies I've seen in the wild this spring. Seems like when I first came out here they were all over the spring landscape. Is it that development has come to the areas I used to see them in ? Or are they just "on hiatus" for a bit ? I really hope they come roaring back next year. They are so definitively Californian, I'd hate to see them relegated to existing only in preserves.
PS (edit) - I did it. Lots of my friends were encouraging me to enter this shot into contests. I finally did - the California State Fair Fine Arts Competition. Hopefully the jurors find the same merit in it so many of you have. I'm keeping my fingers crossed (typing is tough this way).
PPS (edit) - California State Fair said "thanks, but no". Didn't even make the first cut for the competition. Ah, well. Next year ?

1. I'm lucky enough to have been born in Scotland and lived there for all of my 54 years.
2. I was a bit of a swot at school and came top in most things, except art. I can't draw to save myself!
3. I studied at Edinburgh University back in the 70s and learned how to stop being a swot and have fun instead. Somehow I managed to come out with a law degree.

6. I am a bit of a football fanatic. When there's a game on TV, I am banished upstairs to watch it - as no-one can put up with me shouting at the screen. Even the dogs go into hiding!
7. I love rock music and the blues :) Can't stand jazz or boy bands!
8. Our house has become known as Mid Calder Zoo since we have always had multiple pets plus a few rescues. One of the crows we rescued still lives with us!
9. My favourite holiday destination is Jamaica. It's the only country outside Scotland that I would even consider retiring to.
10. Finally, I am a bit of a sci-fi fan. Really love Dr Who. I've never missed an episode and still watch the repeats. Never hid behind the sofa, though, when the daleks appeared!

It's been 63 days since I started the Insanity workout program by Beach Body. It's been one helluva ride!
Normally I wouldn't post pictures of me without a shirt, but this is anything but normal for me. It took a lot for me to share these with you. I'm very self conscience and have always been embarassed by my body. But no mas! ;o)
I busted my ass for the past two months. Worked out every morning at 5am. Watched my daily caloric intake like my life depended on it. Quit drinking alcohol. Cut out all sorts of sweets. In the end, the results were stellar.
I lost a total of 16 lbs. I started at 181.2 and weighed in at 165.2. I've increased my cardiovascular condition to the point where I can actually participate in a 5k run. I've toned up and look better than I have in several years. Overall, I'm just a whole lot healthier.
I'm very proud of how far I've come in a relatively short period of time. It takes patience, persistence, and a true desire to commit to a lifestyle change. But it is worth all of the effort put forth.
So here I am, before my transformation and after training my mind and body to accept the challenges necessary to achieve my personal goals.
Want to know what the secret is?
There isn't any.
Maintain a healthy diet; exercise at a moderate pace to increase your heart rate, 3-4 times per week for a minimum of 30 minutes; be sure to drink 8-10 glasses of water per day; and be sure to get your full night's rest.
Most importantly, you will lose weight if you burn more calories than you take in. This is probably the closest thing to what the "secret" to losing weight is.
It doesn't take a gym membership or fancy workout equipment or expensive DVDs. You just have to want it bad enough.

1) I hate mornings and I am crabby until I have my orange juice ! (I don't do coffee)
2) I love to wear mens boxers and t-shirts .... they are sooo comfortable to sleep in !
3) My eyes are hazel, but do change to straight green or more brown depending on what I wear.
4) I LOVE Rockey Road ice cream, Dark Chocolate covered marshmellows and stale marshmellow peeps LOL
5) I was born in upper NY, have lived in Va., Fla., IL., and now reside in Ca.

7) When I lived in Illinois, I participated in Civil War Re-enactments and I miss doing them. They were a lot of fun... I also miss the Grand Balls that were held in the evenings. The ball gowns were gorgeous, but very hot and heavy !
8) I LOVE re-rooting my vintage girls, but absolutely hate fooling around with my own hair. As you see in the picture, my hair is layered and I LOVE the fact that I can have what I call, the messy hair look !

22) I wish I could find a penny candy store. When I was growing up, my Grandfather would take me to the tiny town over from where we lived, and there was a small Mom & Pop store that had a big counter filled with a wonderful assortment of penny candies. That $0.25 went a long way !!!

A Karakorum, in Mongolia abbiamo avuto la fortuna di assistere al Nadaam, una grande festa per la popolazione. Si svolge naturalmente in estate ;) nelle (poche) cittadine sparse sull'immenso territorio.
Il Nadaam più importante si svolge sempre nella capitale. E' una festa dove accorrono da tutti "gli angoli" con i loro vestiti tradizionali piú belli. Ci sono naturalmente i cavalli sui quali adulti e bambini fanno gare di velocitá e destrezza. Si trovano anche i lottatori, le contorsioniste, gli arcieri... e tutto é costruito e organizzato soprattutto PER LORO e non per i turisti.
Ecco una meravigliosa sella. Dietro, in quel momento, passavano due a cavallo (sono spesso 2 i cavallerizzi, se giovani). L'effetto che ne é uscito é interessante. Sembrano quasi loro seduti su quella meravigliosa sella :)

1) My real name is Penny
2) I really don't care for people making fun of my name, unless I know them well. Once this guy I hardly knew said "Hey Penny, if I pick you up, will I get lucky?" I wanted to slap him. >.>
3) I have a bunch of scars on my chest from BR surgery. If you have a busty problem, I highly recommend it. That surgery changed my life :)
4) I love to sing, but I'm not the best singer.
5) I love to dance, and I'm very good but I need to lose weight to get better~
6) Acting is one of my passions, and I'm regarded as one of (if not) the best female actors in the school.
7) I love to write, and create odd and unusual stories! I'm especially good with horror and thrillers.
8) I don't think I'm ugly or fat... I just think I look better from different angles ;D
9) I am a major shopaholic, online and in malls! Shopping always makes me feel better when I'm sad:D
10) If you can believe it, I come from a first nations background!

16) My parents are divorced. I live my my Mom, but I see my Dad twice a week. He lives with his girlfriend and her kids/parents. I wouldn't have it any other way, too, because I know my parents are happier this way :D
17) I've been to many places, Washington, New York (my favourite so far!), Hawaii, and California. I reeeeaally want to go to London, though! It's my dream~
