As I said in an earlier post, the Galesburg-Lincoln manifests were pretty consistently carrying some interesting stuff for a while earlier in September. On Sept 5th, it carried the second TEBC6 slug through town within a week, joined by a rebuilt SD45-2 and a GP39-2. I went all out for this chase and ended up catching him at four locations between Burlington and Mt. Pleasant.

Kendall tagged me and because I love her I will do as she says. So here are 17 things about me. All completely fascinating.

 

1. I spend about 10 minutes every other day hunting for my keys.

 

2. I hate raw mushrooms. The taste, the texture.

 

3. My favorite color is blue. Also green and black.

 

4. My very first concert was Run DMC. I was 5. This would be a cooler story if I actually remembered the show.

 

5. I need to have music playing at all times. Thisverysecond listening to TV on the Mountain and Ghostland Observatory and Radiohead.

 

6. Favorite movies include: Dead Man, Red, Mean Girls, The Godfather, Donnie Darko, Redbeard, Barry Lyndon, Superbad, and so many more.

 

7.I have extremely sensitive hearing but for some reason often can't hear what people are saying to me. I blame this on the fact that many of my friends are shorter than me. I need taller friends.

 

8. Following up on that, I have a lot of problems finding jeans. Not a giant, but if I'm going to wear them with heels, I need pants/jeans with 35 or 36 inch inseam. So if anybody knows of any good long jeans...

 

9. I have dark brown hair which I've only dyed once really, in college. My friend convinced me to dye one green streak, which then became purple for a bit and then just blonde.

 

10. I used to have my nose pierced.

 

11. I refuse to wear socks. Except when working out.

 

12. I cannot live without foundation and mascara.

 

13. I am death to electronics. Also plants.

 

14. Sometimes I get overly emotional over random acts of kindness.

 

15. I get Rick-Rolled more than anybody I know.

 

16. I think I'm mildly narcoleptic - I can and have fallen asleep almost everywhere. Most commonly in any form of transportation and most alarmingly, in court (I was only observing but it was pretty embarrassing).

 

17. My friends almost all call me by one nickname or another. I've really lost track of them all.

Three photos taken from the exact same spot, a few seconds apart only, using my Samyang 135mm f/2. I just liked the mood of the moment.

This one was shot during lunch as I was testing the Fuji XF56mm f/1.2. I definitely WANT this lens!

I spent an amazing afternoon on 13 Nov with the team at Stallion 51, flying, performing and learning to fly & perform aerobatics in a drop dead gorgeous dual cockpit P-51 / TF-51 D Mustang named Crazy Horse 2.

 

I am still wearing an ear-to-ear grin. Great fun.

*Update I've increased the height of the rear section of the leg by another 1x2 45deg slope brick and ends with an inverted 1x2 45deg slope just to make iwht a little more flush with the shoulder section in Fighter mode (it also means I had to increase the surface area of the leg panels)

*Update 2 I swapped the 2x4 LBG plate with a 2x3 LBG plate so the arms will have breathing space when stowed. Less stress on the legs as well*

I am a novice snorkeler.

I can't swim

I gag with the mouth piece in.

But I am determined to overcome my fear.

Saw this shell about 5 feet from the dock and thought...hey I can get that!

 

I got it!!!

 

Nice huh?!

 

Don't let fears keep you from trying new things...i am learning to be underwater and not freak out.

This was a little difficult for me because I do own a great many weird dolls. Here are 2 I like particularly:

On the left is Grendel. I made Grendel. He is hand sewn from leather and embroidered with vintage Czech beads. His face and the trophy heads he's holding are carved bone. Everybody loves Grendel, my kids all love to hold him. He's very sturdy, heavy, and textural, I don't worry even to let my 2yo play with him. I guess he's sort of a personal mascot.

On the right is an art doll I traded for some years ago. I can't recall who made it, unfortunately. It's made of velvet, with a rubberstamped fabric face, and embellished with beads, buttons and charms. If the artist is around and happens to see this pic, please chime in and remind me your name!

a recreation of the Sabre Jet from Lego Indiana Jones 2. I love the amount of stylization that was done when designing this, its fantastic. He was apparently able to fit an engine into this? I couldnt figure that out, it would have been too weak.

Such a small area of focus at 1.8. I'm considering buying a 50mm 1.2... I wonder what 1.2 looks like. I may find out soon!

I propagated these from my mom's 15 year old plant...

 

what I find interesting is the plants on the right were put directly into the terra cotta cups when they were separated from the mother leaf... the ones on the left went into dixie cups (i was out of terra cotta cups!)

 

other than that they were all treated the same, same water, same food, same light, they were about the same size when they were taken off the mother leaves...

 

very interesting...

I only followed my heart with this one, When I bought it, I had no idea what it was.

1. I am thankful for getting about 10 lb of clothing out of my closet and into the care of folks that will enjoy the clothing more than I have been. I feel lighter and free-er! :)

 

2. I am thankful I was able to speak with Gramma Monday morning! :) She is taking guitar lessons .. that is SO COOL! :) Did I mention that her 82nd Birthday was just the other day!? :)

 

3. I am thankful for working on my interaction with “good” things coming into my life. Oh my goodness, what an eye and brain opening experience.

 

4. I am thankful for maintaining a spacious home and being an auditory learner because I was able to close my eyes and learn the Shiva Nata horizontal legs sequence square in an afternoon. The next couple days I taught myself how to combine horizontal arms with the horizontal legs sequence square! I am getting smoother at it and am finding it best to work on parts at a time rather than the entire thing at once. For instance my brain often feels fuzzy by the time I reach 4-1 so I will simply begin there when I am playing with the patterns! :) Learning the legs sequence is neat because when I first encountered it, looking at it made my brain freak out. I did it differently this time. I acknowledged that I didn’t have to learn it today and put the DVD on repeat. Each time I listened I was able to pick out more pieces I knew and combine them .. just like doing a puzzle. Soon the pattern emerged! :)

 

5. I am thankful for how light reflects off of snow because it does beautiful things like cancel out shadows in the afternoon sun. It also bounces light to places that were previously dark.

 

6. I am thankful to have seen Ray because he showed me some of the photos his daughter sent him. He is so excited about and for her .. and I think to have someone to be safely enthusiastic with!? :)

 

7. I am thankful for gifts of beautiful, luxurious chocolate. Mmmm dark chocolate! :)

 

8. I am thankful for giving myself the go ahead to do something I have pondered for awhile. I am quietly, secretly excited. :)

 

9. I am thankful for figuring out that the excuse that I usually try to give myself for not doing a thing .. is not usually the real reason for not allowing the thing to move forward.

 

10. I am thankful for accidentally discovering a secret and verifying its correctness today! [The secret is: when I walk along thinking thoughts that make me feel good and smiling !!! traffic will stop for me even on busy streets and grumpy people are repelled by me so they cross the street to get away from me! :) I also notice more beauty about things that I have walked by hundreds of times. Now that you know a secret, you could try it yourself!? :)]

 

11. I am thankful for knowing stuff I know even though it makes no sense that I would know it! Difficult to know sometimes but always good to know because I can send short, meaningful messages to the right people at the right time.
