I meant to start on Day 1, but brought the wrong camera with me, an the SD card didn't work.

 

So I'll offer two today to compensate.

 

Here is the view from my letterbox.

 

I watched that glorious moon with Venus all the way home.

 

35mm is not wide enough for my purposes.

 

This month I'm doing the Pentax SMC F 35-105 1:4-5.6mm with inbuilt macro.

 

I thought I hadn't used this before, but in actual fact I *had* done a Singles In for this lens back in February 2016 (!)

 

Considering the number of lenses I own, it's ridiculous for me to go back to one I've tried before. But I've started now, so no point swapping over....

 

My memory of this lens is very poor, so it will be a nice refresher.

 

If nothing else, the focusing distance is longer than I would like. Reminding me yet again that I really do love macro work.

 

I missed the wide angles last month, but even at 35mm, I'm discovering that this is still not wide enough for my liking.

I shot several rolls of both B/W and CN film. These are from Orwo NC500 color film. Under the cold, dull light it gives very „subtle“ negatives, I boosted them more than usual because of that. Basically I didn't really have a idea how to process, so just played and tried some things. More to come!

Little known facts 2: I experience intermittent insomnia.

 

My whole family sleeps bout as well as if they were in a prison camp, so the fact that I used to sleep like I was drugged as a kid actually made me the envied black sheep (I was the black sheep in many ways, but only envied for this one way). But, ever since some scary and upsetting things happened in college, I've had some bouts of not-sleeping. Other people get headaches or stomach upset when they are stressed; I lose sleep. Literally. It comes and goes, and honestly, even on an insomnia night, I still sleep better than my family so I don't complain too much, just try to chill, read, catch up on TV shows, and reduce caffeine.

 

At the same time that my insomnia was kicked off in college, a fear of the dark was also. So, when I'm not sleeping well, I tend to sleep with the lights on too. Embarrassing, but true . . . and not something a lot of people know about.

 

My five best friends, people who have shared beds with me and . . . that's it.

 

Also, this pillow, the little one under my head, well, that's pretty much the most beloved thing I own and was mentioned in the last "things about me series" I did:

Here is day 2. I made a book, and JLynn & I both started our first dorodango attempts! I used the same new binding technique that I started using yesterday. I found out you have to be more careful about how you pull it tight.

Day 11. It was quite a splendid day with friends at school. The weather was really windy so sadly I didn't get to go out and try the photo idea I had my heart set on, but I still got to wear fake flowers on my head.

I loved Laura Sterckx bright and happy card, so I had to case it, although I used a different stamp/die set. I had problems with the debossing. I have to keep working on that.

One told me that ALL the kids were being good for the sub. It didn't last long though because I got a call from my mom (she meant to call someone else, but dialed me by accident) and she said she had one of my students in a time out in the office. My mom started working at the school this year. I am not surprised to hear that this particular child was brought to the office! LOL You give her a time out and she smiles and says...Yay...I love time out! LOL I am so happy to be home!!!!

The Mediæval Bæbes (sometimes spelt 'Medieval Baebes') were the last band I saw prior to the start of the Covid pandemic in 2019 and subsequent lockdown. Now, in December 2021 on their 25th anniversary Christmas Tour, the first band since. Both occasions were at Stokeminster church in Stoke on Trent, a most fitting and splendid venue if ever there was one.

 

They perform songs of times past, often in obscure and ancient tongues, with acoustic instrumental accompaniment to modern audiences but in a refreshingly non-mainstream way. The type of stuff which appeals to many classical music fans and surprise, surprise, a lot of folkies and in my experience, even heavy metal fans as well !?!

 

Talking to like minded fans, we agree that during a live performance at a fitting venue such as Stokeminster with its grand set and otherworldly, ethereal background lighting effects, these fair maidens exude a very rare, but special enchantment and allure. Although many of the songs were carols, it was a Christmas concert after all, the subjects of a lot of their songs, taken from a wide variety of mediaeval texts and when sung in middle English which we can vaguely understand, are often about the inevitability of death, the pointlessness of material possessions, the horrors of unrequited love or the dangers of imbibing too much alcohol. All timeless themes. Unlike losing one's spotted cow, maidens losing their maidenheads or the usurping of kings in traditional British folk song which are not. Mostly.

 

The best summary of this band I could find was in a publication called 'The Express' which said “...bright, funny, gutsy women, good looking too.... as close to heaven as you can get.”

 

Apologies from a photographic perspective. (1) The 'banding' or mild striping you can see in the background is not 'otherworldly' or even 'ethereal' as describe above, it's me trying to be discreet by using silent shutter mode. (2) I couldn't always get the extreme right of the stage. (3) Taking so many pictures. The Mediæval Bæbes were so good, I couldn't help it.
