Liverpool in black and white 2
I posted some images of Liverpool’s Central Library a couple of weeks ago, but last Saturday I was looking for black and white photography opportunities. I began in the lovely circular Picton Reading Room, with its dome-light and spiral staircase. From there, I went upstairs to the top-floor looking up to, through and then outside to see the futuristic dome. Once outside, I took a shot of the dome of the Picton Reading Room, and across to the statue of the Duke of Wellington on its Waterloo Memorial column. I then returned inside to complete my visit with photos of some of the other people using the library.
A touch tank and sea life always make a great shot.

I love the sea. It will always be in my blood. I rarely mention it to anyone how much I love water. When I was young, my father took me down to the shore and I freaked. I would not go in. I layed on the sand like a dead fish everytime he tried to get me to go in the ocean. lol. Now, I have definately gotten over that whole complex.
I once heard Richard Pryor say he would like to die being declared "lost at sea." I can totaly understand what he ment. When your "lost at sea" you go on living forever with no one knowing what ever happened to you.
I remember God questioning Job in the Book of Job38:16 "Have you entered into the depths of the sea? Or have you walked in the foundations of the deep?" I hope I have a good handle on it so far but, I probably don't know all it's limits. I probably don't know a thing about it.
Point being: I love the sea and all it's wonders.
September 2
I spent my work day chopping up the interviews from yesterday at Apogee. We had a long meeting with Angilee to talk about Robohead procedures and how we track our time from project to project. Boring as it was, I seem to be more passionate during meetings about procedure than in creative meetings, at least at UNT. We made progress!
For lunch we had Metzlerâs, the German food and BBQ joint. I havenât been there many times, but the food is really good. In my continuing effort to be healthy, I had a sliced brisket salad, which is basically lettuce on a plate covered in cheese and sliced brisket. It tasted far better than anticipated.
After work, Emily and I went on a walk on the trails by White Rock Lake with Jayme and Mitch. I got two long phone calls during that walk, so I didnât get to visit very much. Luckily, one of them was for a new gig that will be very helpful. The slump seems more and more over every day! The other phone call was Marcus Junius Laws. It started with, âHey man are you selling that lens I sold you? I thought I saw youâd listed it,â and eventually devolved into 35 Denton gossip. So juicy! Being on the phone did help me forget that I was working out, so as soon as I hung up I realized how tired and sweaty Iâd become.

Day 25: The Rocky Horror Show! A favourite film of mine since always and also a fantastic show! The reason for this day's lateness is two-fold.
1 - I went to see the Rocky Horror Show, which was the most fun I've had in ages! Plus, Richard O'Brian was in the audience and he signed my ticket!!!
2 - I was originally wearing whats in the next shot for day 25 but I can't really pull it off at the moment...back to the gym!

Sat 13 Oct
We left for Doxa about 8:30. When we arrived at WCC, all the food stalls were already up, and most of the other attractions, including businesses from Kleinplasie. I drove in to the 2nd stage in the parking lot opposite Milk and Honey. While L-A went to the Art room 2, I worked with Bernadette to get my computer plugged in to the board, and then got my guitar and a mic ready for our performance at 12:30. She had thought everything out very well, so the equipment and tools I had brought for use in emergency would not be needed. . At 9 am I played Andre's opening announcement, and then spoke for a few minutes of welcome to visitors. Then I started playing music on my computer from the Foobar2000 list. The whole day proved to be highly enjoyable. A great variety of creative people showing their talents, and an excellent selection of food stalls and other vendors which I wasn't able to spend time with in detail. Only 50 tickets had been sold in advance, but another hundred were sold on the day. People came intending to enjoy themselves. There were lots of attractions for children, including goat petting. Once things were running smoothly with the DJ music, I went to see how L-A was doing in art room 2, one of the Sunday School rooms. She was fine, and the art in the room was all prophetic and pretty good. Hers is a unique style and I love it. So did many others, but sad to say not enough to buy. In fact no art was actually sold at the festival, though it was appreciated. Very little food was left by the end, and there had been huge amounts. Every so often someone came and asked me to make an announcement. There were 7 performances on the main stage, including the Sunday morning and all were excellent and were appreciated and applauded heartily. The second performance was by Worcester Primary School Choir, and I was intrigued to see Pastor Folla in attendance with them as a coach. At around noon someone disconnected our power supply. My computer battery is shot so the computer crashed. Normally this isn't a problem, but in this instance, all the Foobar files disappeared and when I tried to reload them something very strange went on in the transfer process. When I attempted to play any of the files I got an error message. Something in Foobar had been corrupted, and stayed corrupt even when I reinstalled it. So I reverted to playing the tunes from the original subdirectory. They wouldn't play sequentially, but this wasn't apparent to the listeners. I switched between Windows media Player and the VLC player which allowed for overlapping the transitions. Around noon, two 'judges' visited all the food stalls to come up with winners in three categories: taste, stall decor, and team spirit. The prayer group I am part of led by Carlo Van Wyk carried off the prize for best decor. Several stalls sent food over to me as thanks for the music! At 12:30 it was time for L-A and me to perform 5 prison songs - words by inmates and music by me. We miked the bodhran and L-A sat on the edge of the stage. The words of the songs I sang tell the Gospel story in different ways. There were about 5 more live performances during the day, and all had merit, particularly Johan Groenewald on keyboard, and later his son Olaf on guitar, but none received the appreciation they deserved. At times I went and sat in the closest chair and clapped every song, and this generated some response from the 'audience.' We are learning about the local customs and culture. I went over to chat to Carlo and bought poitekos - which included the potatoes and mushrooms that I had provided. At around 4:45, Bernadette suggested I pack up. I had played all 55 of my selection. As I walked to the gate with equipment to go in my car, I saw Godfrey waiting in vain for someone with a car to get his jewelry polishing kit home. A friend had his bakkie but hadn't come to collect him. So I took him home with his stuff, and then on to our home with my stuff, only to find that L-A had our house keys in her purse. Back to Doxa we went and had a coffee before going into the church to watch Joe Niemand's fine performance. Heather joined us and translated some of Joe's between-song talks for L-A, who repeated them to me. I enjoy music whether I understand the words or not and I can see why he is a much loved entertainer on the Christian circuit in South Africa. All-in-all it had been a fantastic day. Carl Greyling's vision had been realized. Since he is in a wheelchair, that is a huge achievement for him personally. We went home, had some supper, and I started editing and posting today's photos.

Most to miasteczko mające około 67 000 mieszkańców. Razem z Litvínovem (około 27 000 mieszkańców) ma najmniejszą sieć tramwajową Czech. Kursują cztery linie (1-4), z tego tylko linie 2 i 4 kursują "normalnie" czyli od ok. 5 do 22-23. Linie 1 i 3 są liniami wspomagającymi. Jedynka jeździ rano i po południu, lecz trójka ma tylko pięć kursów wczesnym ranem (od około 4:50 do 6).

Most jako miasto jest ciekawe pod kątem architektury z lat 60. Starszych zabytków jest bardzo mało, gdyż w 1964 r. zdecydowano by "przesunąć" miasto o kilka kilometrów. Właściwie przesunięto w sumie tylko jeden budynek, kościół, który obecnie stoi w sumie w centrum miasta, ale wokół kościoła prawie nic nie ma, ponieważ jest po drugiej stronie linii kolejowej a ta linia kolejowa jest barierą w centrum Mostu.
"Przesunięto" miasto w celu eksploatacji złóż węgla brunatnego.
A Škoda just departed from the turning loop Litvínov Citadela and started its journey to Most. In Most and Litvínov is a fine small tram network.
Most is a small town with around 67 000 inhabitants. It has together with Litvínov (around 27 000 inhabitants) the smallest network in Czechia. Four lines are in service (1-4) out of which only line 2 and 4 are in "normal" service, that means the are in service from 5 am to 10-11 pm. Line 1 and 3 are supporting lines. Line 1 is in service in the morning and afternoon, but line 3 has only five courses in the early morning (from aroung 4:50 to 6 am).
The network is in general one line from Most to Litvínov with a branchline to the railway station in Most.
Line 1 links Litvínov with Most and is the longest line (Litvínov Citadela - Most Velebudická)
Line 2 runs only in Most Most (Velebudická - Most Nádraží)
Line 3 links Litvínov with the railway station in Most (Litvínov Citadela - Most Nádraží)
Line 4 runs from Litvínov to the depot in Most (Litvínov Cyitadela - Most Dopravní podnik).
Apart from that there is also a night line (40) which runs on the whole network.
Most as a town is interesting from an architectural point of view. There are very few old buildings, since in 1964 it was decided to "move" the town for some kilometers. Actually only one building was moved, the church, which is today in the centre but around the church there is almost nothing because it is on the other side of the railway line. The line is a barrier in the centre of Most.
The town was "moved" in order to mine coal.

1. On February 18 I will celebrate 26 years of marrage to my best friend Kate.

5. Now I play guitar and have five of them. I'm not that good, but it's still fun.

7. I love a lot of different kinds of music, but I'm really drawn to celtic and rootsy accoustic stuff
8. I don't really care much for sports (unless my kids or grandkids are involved).
9. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up.
10. I'm kind of a geek. I don't sit down at my desk without at least two computers going - one Windows and one Mac, and since the last malware attack on my wife's laptop I've switched both of our laptops over to Ubuntu Linux. You can't be a real geek unless you play with linux. That's boring I suppose but I couldn't think of a tenth one. Oh, how about this:

Drinking water is something I do every day, all day long. I love these new water "bottles"... :-)
A better water bottle. Better for Everyone.
Designing with more renewable materials over fossil fuels is how we are lowering the carbon footprint of our packaging while protecting the water inside. Making sure our materials are responsibly sourced is how we protect the things outside too.
The JUST water bottle relies on the use of paper. We like paper because it is derived from trees which are renewable or grow back naturally. Using renewable materials contributes to lowered carbon emissions.
What do all these materials do?
Using paper as the main material is how the JUST water bottle reduces its environmental footprint while still maintaining its structure. An aluminum foil barrier does an excellent job protecting the water from light, oxygen and other potential contamination. Both the aluminum and paper are shielded by a layer of BPA-free plastic lamination to protect the integrity of the bottle.
Certified Paper
The paper used in the JUST water package is 100% traceable and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. Traceability back to the point of origin for paper sources is important for several reasons. One of the most important is so that the forests will be around for future generations to enjoy and for wood to continue to provide so much benefit for the world around us.
Plant-based plastic
The plastic in the shoulder and cap of the JUST water bottle is made from sugarcane, not from fossil fuels like petroleum. This significantly reduces our carbon emissions by utilizing a resource that grows back each year.
A Roll of Bottles is Efficiently Better
JUST makes a better water bottle from flat rolls that ultimately get folded into shape when they are filled. This is a highly efficient way to ship millions of bottles in a very tight space requiring fewer trucks and in turn, less energy.
1.5 million bottles fit into a standard 40 foot truck.
The same amount would take 2.5 trucks to ship “pre-formed” bottles.

I shot several rolls of both B/W and CN film. These are from Orwo NC500 color film. Under the cold, dull light it gives very „subtle“ negatives, I boosted them more than usual because of that. Basically I didn't really have a idea how to process, so just played and tried some things. More to come!

I had a couple of tiny edits to take care of on the fall ad this morning, but other that it was a pretty chill day. I assisted Ahna on an interview shoot at GAB this afternoon that went without a hitch. It was in this conference room I didn’t know existed with long, textured glass. We blasted light through that thing to make a cool, streaky background vibe.
After the shoot, we needed coffee but the GAB coffee shop is closed for the summer. We opted for the Union Starbucks as a backup. Since I had my Segway with me (of course), I challenged Ahna to a race. She’d take the cart and I’d race her on the Segway. Even when you factor in my brief moment of disorientation navigating campus, the Segway totally destroyed. It’s official, folks: We all need Segways now.
As we entered the building we noticed a gigantic vertical TV screen outside. It looks like they’re gonna have some sweet exterior signage soon or something, but both of us immediately had the same thought: This looks a heck of a lot like the suggested display setup for the Denton square. You know, the one that they want to put next to the Confederate soldier statue to say, “HEY BUT YEAH WE AREN’T RACIST NOW SO THIS IS OK.”
Little known facts 2: I experience intermittent insomnia.
My whole family sleeps bout as well as if they were in a prison camp, so the fact that I used to sleep like I was drugged as a kid actually made me the envied black sheep (I was the black sheep in many ways, but only envied for this one way). But, ever since some scary and upsetting things happened in college, I've had some bouts of not-sleeping. Other people get headaches or stomach upset when they are stressed; I lose sleep. Literally. It comes and goes, and honestly, even on an insomnia night, I still sleep better than my family so I don't complain too much, just try to chill, read, catch up on TV shows, and reduce caffeine.
At the same time that my insomnia was kicked off in college, a fear of the dark was also. So, when I'm not sleeping well, I tend to sleep with the lights on too. Embarrassing, but true . . . and not something a lot of people know about.
My five best friends, people who have shared beds with me and . . . that's it.

Ravensburger, 99 p. From a series of 8 different pet pictures, edited in 2004. It was quite hard to find all those with cats on it! And it was not possible to order them, the stores get them in packs. These 2 I purchased in Ravensburg , August 21, 2004, when I was there for a puzzler meeting. Then I forgot this - actually I opened it for the first time yesterday and put it together. October 7, 2006.
