A late Maxi 2 - I think some W-plaes were Maxi 3s?

My newest and coolest lens so far - the legendary Leica Summicron-R 50mm f/2!

I couldn't resist the appeal of grabbing it at an almost bargain price. It's in excellent condition, the glass is as pure as it can be. This Summicron is the second version with e55 filter thread and lovely built-in hood. It's made in Canada in 1987.

I've done a bunch of tests in the past few days, but no real shooting yet. Have to say, I'm quite impressed. Image quality is an instant win, straight out of the camera. There are no problems of any kind both with my Canon 5D and Canon Elan 7 film camera.

I think this Summicron might become my favourite lens for a long time ahead.

As I recall, those were the first words out of my mouth when this came over the hill south of Leipsic. Under normal circumstances, I probably would have been disappointed in this nose-dived EMD leading a work train, but given that it's a clean YN2 SD40-2, I think I'm happy I took the shot!

Day 52 Year 2: I really don't know...I gotta stop staying up so damn late! lol

Oddly enough, this was my plan for my SP today even before I saw Dr.Irish . My two reasons for the nurse getup tonight are as follows:

1. I have a bag of props for when I have no ideas. It was a stethoscope or a pirate.

2. I have recently recovered from my disdain of all things regarding nursing.

Now any nurses out there, please take no offense. My issues with nurses have nothing to do with nurses or nursing in general but of course a man. My heart was broken by a man who cheated on me for a year with our close mutual friend who was of course in nursing school. During her winter break and without my knowledge, they escaped to the Bahamas for a week, completely missing my birthday. Not long after was her graduation. Being the good friend that I am, threw her a giant graduation party, including all her favorite dishes, and a cake with a picture of her at her graduation on it. I now believe he was actually the one who took the picture at the graduation instead of being home sick like he told me. Regardless, after a year of this, he finally admitted cheating on me, via the phone of course. Not long after, they were engaged and eventually married. Needless to say I was heartbroken, causing me to hate anything that could remotely remind me of the situation. I couldn't see a nurse without the feelings of panic and betrayal creeping up on me.

Years have passed and I have moved on but still have some lingering anxiety ridden moments. My best friend is now ready to enter *EDIT* the medical field and it's time for me to associate good with the image.

Make that 3 reasons - Dyxie's sick and may need my bedside manor.;)

Explore #2!!!!!

Taken with an iPhone 4 Olloclip, edited with an iPad 2. I've been impatiently waiting for my passionflower to flower this year, it's not happening after another harsh winter, so I decided to photograph the cool curly things instead. I've cropped this to death, not sure if it works.

I've been tagged so here are 16 things about me:

1. Most days I feel like a teenager, even though I look like I'm 80!

2. I used to be quite a good dancer when I was a kid.

3. I travelled a lot when I was younger but haven't been anywhere except the UK or parts of Ireland in 20 years.

4. I'm going to win the lotto!

5. I find it difficult to make friends.

6. I hate the Winter.

7. I got accepted into the Royal Air Force but chickened out at the last minute.

8. I love car boot sales and second hand shops.

9. My camera comes everywhere with me.

10. My family mean the world to me.

11. I would like to be able to paint and also play the piano.

12. I love music and would like to go to more concerts.

13. My dream job would to be a rock dj.

14. I'd love to have a houseful of animals.

15. I hated school and was rubbish at it.

16. I used to wonder what on Earth the big deal about computers and the internet was....! ;-)

Tried out a couple of new(er) texture techniques as 1) I've worked with Sarah quite a few times (always with great results) and 2) I really wanted her to "pop" despite not using a flash.

Entertainer Tommy Steele (1936) received a knighthood in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. The 83-year-old is honoured for services to entertainment and charity. Steele was Britain's first teen idol and rock 'n roll star. His cheeky Cockney image and boy-next-door looks won him success as a musician, singer, and actor. Sir Tommy told the press: “It’s like being in a panto. People are calling you Sir and you think: ‘Blooming heck. Is that in the script?’ It’s wonderful and I haven’t come down to earth yet.”

Tommy Steele was born Thomas William Hicks in London, England, in 1936. He was the son of a tailor. Tommy had tried many odd jobs before he turned up at the famous 2 I's coffee bar in London. There he was 'discovered' by manager Larry Parnes and became one of Britain's first manufactured pop stars. Parnes believed he could be Britain's answer to Elvis Presley. Steele shot quickly to fame in the UK as the frontman for a rock and roll band, The Steelmen, after their first single, 'Rock With The Caveman', reached number 13 in the UK singles charts in 1956. His second single 'Singin' the Blues' was a number 1 hit and, as a result, his sudden stardom was compressed quickly into a film as well, The Tommy Steele Story (Gerard Bryant, 1957), even before there was a story to tell. Most of Steele's 1950s recordings were covers of American hits, such as 'Singing the Blues' and 'Knee Deep in the Blues'. Steele co-wrote many of his early songs with Lionel Bart and Mike Pratt, but he used the pseudonym of Jimmy Bennett from 1958 onwards. And on film, he played his Cockney self in such teen comedies as The Duke Wore Jeans (Gerald Thomas, 1958) and Tommy the Toreador (John Paddy Carstairs, 1959) with Janet Munro.

During the 1960s Tommy Steele progressed to a career in stage and film musicals, leaving behind his pop idol identity. He appeared in such films as Light Up the Sky! (Lewis Gilbert, 1960) with Ian Carmichael and Benny Hill, and in the West End in the title role of 'Hans Christian Andersen'. He was nominated for Broadway's 1965 Tony Award as Best Actor (Musical) for 'Half a Sixpence' in the role of Arthur Kipps - which he later recreated for the film version of the same name, Half A Sixpence (George Sidney, 1967) with Julia Foster. One of his other co-stars was John Cleese. He played character roles in The Happiest Millionaire (Norman Tokar, 1967) with Fred MacMurray and Greer Garson, and Where's Jack? (James Clavell, 1969), although many critics found his personality to be somewhat overwhelming on screen. In Finian's Rainbow (Francis Ford Coppola, 1968), co-starring with Petula Clark and Fred Astaire, he had his best-known appearance in the cinema.

Tommy Steele's one-man show, 'An Evening with Tommy Steele', ran for fourteen months in 1979-1980 and is in the Guinness Book of Theatre Facts and Feats as "the longest-running one-man show in West End history”. In 1983, he directed and starred in the West End stage production of 'Singin' in the Rain', and in 2003-2005 he had a triumphant return on the stage as Ebenezer Scrooge in 'Scrooge: The Musical'. Tommy Steele married Ann Donoghue in 1960. They have one daughter, Emma. In 2018, he returned to the London Coliseum, 60 years after his debut there in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s 'Cinderella', to star in 'The Glenn Miller Story'. He was awarded the Knight Bachelor of the Order of the British Empire in the 2020 Queen's Birthday Honours List for his services to entertainment and charity. Recalling his six-decade career, he said: “I love finding new challenges. I love taking my career into different facets like pantomime, musicals, films. I just love trying things and being invited to do it. I have always been very lucky that things have happened to me."

Down With The Sickness

Felt like doing something a little bit more disturbing tonight. And I kind of like it haha. Work was alright tonight. It was kind of a slow yet steady night. Made some money, not as much as I had hoped, but that's alright I guess. It is my Friday! Woot. time to sit around at home all day for the next two days with absolutely NOTHING to do. . . I'm actually not excited. I wish I had someone to go do something with. . . blah. I hope everyone else has had a great day. See you bright and early tomorrow morning. :) I think my creative juices are really flowing lately. haha

Random Fact : Having blue eyes is a mutation. Before the mutation occured, all humans had brown eyes.

This was taken on a mini photoshoot with my friends. This one's Michelle :)

View on 'L' please! IT HONESTLY LOOKS BETTER! I promise!

I've been checking all of your photostreams lately! Finally flickr works again. but it'll probably stop working again.

Few things I really want to say:

1. Vampire Diaries really, really disappointed me today D:<

2. I really want to have an actual photoshoot with people and get better pictures.

3. Summer is almost here! I have about 1 more month of school left. Kind of stressed about exams already!!

4. Michelle says she needs a trim :)

The original collage of web 2.0 logos was done in early 2006.

I updated it to show who was still around, who had vanished and who had got bought, in these images:

www.flickr.com/photos/meg/3528372602/

www.flickr.com/photos/meg/3528372734/

www.flickr.com/photos/meg/3527560991/

On this image, I've removed defunct companies in case anyone would like to refresh it with some current logos (e.g. Twitter) for use in presentations and things.

There are plenty of companies around at the moment which could fill the gaps!

More details on my blog: Game Web 2.Over?

Update: Four additional things you should know about this work:

1. This image is an update of a well-known earlier work which was created in 2006.

2. I have updated the image for the sake of accuracy, and not to call fail on Web 2.0. This is similar to redrawing a map which features Prussia - an interesting historical artefact, but you wouldn't want to navigate by it.

3. The original creator of the web 2.0 logo collage made the decision about which companies to include or exclude, based on his own criteria (which I don't know, but could be success, buzz, logo design or something else).

4. Because of this, it should be completely obvious that this list of companies wasn't comprehensive at the time (there were many more web 2.0 startups at the time that weren't featured) and isn't now (there are hundreds of exciting and successful startups which have launched since 2006 and which aren't featured). Many things on the internet are subjective and selective. The original collage was one. If your/favourite company isn't featured above, sorry; this is why.

If anyone would like to use this to make a new collage of startups in this genre for 2009, I'd be very interested to see it - please post the link in the comments.

Cycling road version 2(I'm actually also in this photo, can you spot me)

Aka abstract on Concrete 2. I couldn't help noticing the intriguing patterns on the sidewalk of a new condo building in Vancouver's Olympic Village. A few tweaks of colour and contrast bring them a little more to life. Unfortunately I'm too tired just now to get more creative on just what I see in these images but I'm open to anyone's interpretation :-)

(Shot on iPhone 6)

this is here because i do not smile much in my photos and that bothers me.

i'm working on it.

i was tagged again, this time i will lose the sarcasm:

1. i refer to Maine as ‘the cave’- no real reason really, maybe just cause it seems so detached from the rest of the world

2. i’ve become addicted to puzzles and coconut iced coffee within the past two weeks

3. i wear four rings, always; you may have noticed already

4. i have never been apart of a sport through school

5. i wanted to be a trainer at SeaWorld when i was younger

6. i got accepted to SCAD today. yay.

7. i’d like to visit Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia

8. i’m really good at memorizing youtube videos

9. i haven’t taken a photo that i’ve been absolutely satisfied with in a very long time

10. i’d like #9 to change. soon.

I'm going to be traveling for about a week so there won't be any activity from me until I return. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

~thinkexist

I realised earlier in the week that I hadn't taken any shots of my cat Pookie in a while so during the weekend I was lucky to get her in a good mood for posing:-)

Just to answer some questions about Pookie, she is 1 and a 1/2. I found her when we was only a couple of days old and dumped, left in really bad condition but she has been a sweetie since the beginning. I love having her around for company and she talks away to me all the time, loves to lie beside me especially when I am in bad form. I'd be lost with out her:-)

This was my entry for Flattery Challenge Wave 2.

I had to imitate the themes and building style of Gambort. Quite a challenge as I think his trains are just brilliant.

Couldn't resist making it grey and brown though, as he's always ranting on about the limited pallete of most steampunk creations!

The valve wheel on the top was supposed to be my little secret signature, but I think it was a bit too obvious. Most of the commentors reckoned it was my build.

Another good challenge - thanks to Jacob for organising it.

Day 47 - February 16, 2010

A self portrait has always been in my plans, but I've hesitated for the following reasons:

1. I don't have the proper equipment.

2. I don't know how to use strobes.

3. I'm scared to post my own photo.

Things haven't changed much, I still don't have any portrait gear, strobes, soft boxes and what not, in fact right until a few hours before my shoot I didn't even have a remote control and tripod.

But these past few days while visiting your streams, sharing photos, stories, and memories, among others things, I have come to realize how important friendship and community really are. This I believe, is what photo sharing is and should be all about.

I have come to know some really good friends via Flickr and I look forward to building more meaningful relationships in the days, weeks, months and years to come.

That's why starting today, for the next week or so, I'll be doing a series called "Boy Behind The Lens". Beginning with this one, my next few photos will be all about who I am, what I do, and what I love doing.

Here's some basic stuff to start it off. My name is Michael Josh Villanueva, you can call me Michael or Josh, I love both names so I don't mind either of the two. I am from the Philippines, half Filipino, half Chinese Malaysian and 29 years old.

I guess a photo should accompany that introduction, so with fingers crossed and eyes closed here I go...SUBMIT!

TAGGED BY THE WONDERFUL:

List 10 things that your friends/contacts may or may not know about you, but that are true. Tag ten people and be sure to let them know they’ve been tagged (a quick message will do). Don’t forget to link back to the person who tagged you. Post a picture in your stream with the 10 facts and list your tagged people.

1. I smoke...... ( nahhhhhhhh I hear you say ).

2. I find it hard to sit still at times, in other words I always got to keep busy.

3. In the month of DEC 2009, something monumental is going to happen, that will forever change my life and again the course of it. I await!

4. Since Jan 2008, I have never been without my camera... think of it what you will. Before that time I was active in photography, but at arms length.

5. I cannot stop buying handbags and shoes.

6. Candy floss... mmmmmmmmmm

7.Sky News is the last thing I see at night.. or even hear, or maybe even a wonderful flickr photo.

8. My family is my life.

9. I do my own painting and decorating.

10. I want to be successful in what ever I do and be contented.

I could've chosen one of everal pics with funny dialogue, but I instead decided to put this pic of Watchmen up. Even if it recieves bad reviews, no way is it flopping. Ray recently tagged me (today actually) and here is my 16 facts.

1 my full name is Ned Jordan Coyle.

2 I once got into an argument about how many Godzilla films there are. I said 29, he said 1.

3 Chicken is my favorite vegetable.

4 Say my name three times and I will appear, assuming that my name is Beetlejuice.

5 in Checkers I remain undefeated, probably because my mom is either bad at it or was letting me win, and when I was about to lose I had to leave.

6 For every superhero I create I create a whole rogues gallery, meaning they easily outnumber the heroes.

7 I may be a horny teenager but that isn't why I support same sex marriages.

8 I once invented my own drink called a Swamp Shot, at least two people enjoyed it and everyone else noted that it was too sour. Mix it with sprite and it becomes Soda.

9 I practically nagged my mother into giving up smoking, it took eight years but it worked.

10 I have a not terrible singing voice but once it gets recorded a baby crying sounds like Beethoven.

11 I am a huge fan of Weird Al.

12 My nose is slightly bent as it is broken. How'd that happen? It's simple, face+concrete. I can still smell, but breathing is harder.

13 I think I have anger problems and am prone to attacking inamate ibjects I may have hurt myself with.

14 I like to talk but I try not to for some reason cos I don't want to bore people. My skills aren't that good either, I say "uh-hu" and nod my head to EVERYONE not just girls.

15 I may be a horny teenager, but porn isn't my thing. The name itself puts me off.

16 I am Catholic but personally believe that all religions are right in at least some way, so I'm like a Bizarro-Athiest.

And the unofficial number 17.

17 I once wanted to take over the world so I sent a guy named Joel into space and forced him to watch bad movies...damn I've gotta stop watching that.

Epistle • Judith 13:22-25

Lesson from the Book of Judith.

[Praises of the illustrious woman (the Blessed Virgin) by whose virtue and fortitude the children of Israel (the Church) were preserved from destruction.]

The Lord hath blessed Thee by His power, Who by Thee hath brought our enemies to nought. Blessed art Thou, O daughter, by the Lord the Most High God, above all women upon the earth. Blessed be the Lord Who made Heaven and earth, because He hath so magnified Thy name this day, that Thy praise shall not depart out of the mouth of men, who shall be mindful of the power of the Lord for ever: for that Thou hast not spared Thy life by reason of the distress and tribulation of Thy people, but hast prevented our ruin in the presence of our God.

Gospel • John 19:25-27

Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. John.

[Jesus said to St. John, who personified all Christians: “Behold thy Mother.”]

At that time, there stood by the cross of Jesus, His Mother and His Mother’s sister, Mary of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalen. When Jesus therefore had seen His Mother and the disciple standing Whom He loved, He saith to His Mother: Woman, behold Thy son. After that He saith to the disciple: Behold thy Mother. And from that hour the disciple took Her to his own.

Yellow swallowtail (Papilio machaon)

Sunday was a perfect day to photograph butterflies (maybe you saw the 2 Charaxes jasius captures I uploaded yesterday, too). The sun was bright, but not blindingly bright as it is in summertime, and the colors in all the photos came out gorgeous. I didn't have to do a single change to the colors of these captures, no levels, no contrast, no saturation, no nothing! I just cropped and uploaded... Enjoy!

I got tagged by quite a few people. :)

1. I don't usually like straight-on selfies and I don't really like this one. My eyes look a bit weird. I look a bit weird.

2. I've seen Inception twice and wouldn't mind watching it a third time ;) If you haven't seen it, do it NOW! Reeeally.

3. I am going back to Melbourne tomorrow for the weekend. I can't wait!

4. I really want to get a job but I think I'm probably too picky.

5. (some) dubstup tracks aren't that bad, actually. It's better than a lot of other straight techno stuff out there.

6. I'm still really glad I didn't quit my 365. I need to be consistent with something in my life.

7. I'm trying to be more optimistic :)

8. I wish I could dance! Or be really good at something. Like a sport, maybe? I don't know.

9. I NEED LIGHTING GEAR. But it's so expensiveee :(

10. The shadowy bit under my chin ruins the shot :\

How did I not upload this earlier? Geeze...

Fun with the 12mm at f/2. I don't shoot that thing wide open nearly enough, and hell, getting an f/2 wide was so I could do this kind of thing to begin with!

Today, the Hereios are sharing Thirteen Things about themselves, so I thought it was an ideal opportunity for a cliché. Socks are cliché and so is cloning, so HCS!

1. I have made 13 pairs of socks for myself.

2. I also have 3 pairs of socks that other people have made for me in swaps.

3. When I was putting the socks on for this shot I discovered that the first pair I made have a whole in the sole.

4. I don't have any of that yarn left to darn them with. :(

5. The sock in the middle was a nice thick woolly sock with a pretty raindrop lace pattern, but my husband put it in the washer and then the dryer by mistake, so now it is felted and the right size for a seven year old.

6. I like knitting socks because they're small and portable and easy for me to remember the pattern.

7. I've hardly knit any socks in the last year, because I've made so many blanket squares and been doing my 365 Days SP project.

8. I have two different unfinished socks ready to take away on holiday with me, since I won't be driving and socks won't be too hot to knit.

9. I have also chosen some crochet patterns for doing on the plane. I know the TSA don't mind knitting needles on planes, but no-one seems to have told Manchester and I can't be bothered to have a fight with the security guards.

10. One of the socks is on two very long circular needles so I could use them as garottes if I so wished, so it's maybe a good thing they'll be in my checked luggage.

11. I haven't done anyway near enough of he things on my to do list before I go on holiday and instead of getting on with them, I'm making jam and making clone shots.

12. I use Flickr rather like I use Ravelry - as a tool for procrastination.

13. I am so excited about going on my jolly-holly-days that I think I might burst before I get on the plane!
