Well I was Tagged by my wonderful Flickr Friend accidental photographer1, His photos are amazing and he captures them with his heart! Take a look at his wonderful stream and you will see what i mean! He asked me to reveal 10 things about me so here goes lol.....
#1) As a young child, i knew i wanted to be a Mother, i feel that being one is a gift from God, i feel its my duty to raise them up in Church to know how wonderful he is and the values of being a Christian.
#2) I got my first camera when i was around 7 and havent put one down since. All of my familys pics are taken by me, when someone at a Holiday wants their picture taken with their spouse and kids they just holler for me lol. So needless to say, its hard to eat a meal at our Holidays!
#3) I met my Husband at the age of 16 and have been with him for 15 years now, we have shared so much together and he is def my Best Friend, not to say we havent hit bumps in our marriage, but it seems it only makes the road smoother to travel.
#4) I have a few of my closest friends who call me a Grandma due to the fact i drive a Cadillac LOL (but hey its a CTS, i think far from being one) But maybe one day i'll suprise them and get that on my car tag!!
#5) I love fishing like Bill Dance, my Hubby calls me Mrs. Dance alot, i believe its from catching more than him lol. He use to have to bait my hook with a nighcrawler because i hated that squirming so one day i bought me some needle nosed pliers and they have forever since been my best friend =) and he loves them too, he can actually now fish!
#6) I always think to myself when driving, walking or just looking around of things that i pass by, on how wonderful they would be to photograph, i suppose thats the photographer in us to constantly see things to capture.
#7) My favorite foods are Steak, Bake Potato, Salad, and lots of good rolls. I love Sweet Tea, and my favorite dessert is Choc. covered Strawberries or Cheesecake!
#8) One of my all time favorite pets was Pebbles, my almost 11 year old Great Dane, she passed away last year and i have to say, it will be so hard to ever replace her, she and I were so close that when i'd walk, i would step my next step and my flip flop would snap! She was walking so close behind me, that she would step on it lol.
#9) My Little kiddos are truly my Best Friends!! I dont have anyone to really ever watch them, but thats okay, i had them and they are my responsibility (but man alive sometimes a break would be nice lol) So we do everything together, and i cherish that so much, im glad that we do because they tell me any and everything because they know that they can, their main rule in life is NEVER to Lie or Steal! That i will NOT tolerate, other than that we can work through anything!
#10) I have road rage LOL I am going to invent a little button above the mirror inside the car that you can push and a crane hand will come out, pick up the car in front of you and set it to the side so you can go on around and countiue your journey!
So now it's your turn, the next time you upload a photo please share 10 things about yourself. If you are tagged, it is because I really want to know more about you my friend!!

I took A LOT of logo and detail shots on this summer's trip considering my trip to the LTEX dead zone, some neat cars on the GLC in Cadillac and this find that I never would have known about without seeing a post on the Abandoned Rails Facebook group. Only a couple months ago some rando posted a photo of MKT covered hoppers in Boon. Michigan. Welp, as far as I'm concerned Michigan is McKay territory so I messaged him to see what he knew and apparently these cars have been sitting here for years. At the time I didn't really see a trip through Michigan in the future so I found the cars on Google maps and marked em to the to-do list.
As it got closer to trip time more things came into focus and I decided to double back via Michigan & the Mac to go find these cars, a restored Ann Arbor RS1. the SS Badger and a set of oddball power on a siding somewhere. I accomplished the first 3 but falling in love with the Great Lakes Central kinda pre-empted my proposed Michigan tour de shortlines. On GLC morning #2 I awoke in the parking lot of the Anytime Fitness in Cadillac (great location btw) , got a lift in and after finding the power tied down at the shop I committed to going not far down the road to Boon.
I knew there were quite a few there but man there was another cut of cars further up the siding and ALL of them were in MKT green! Erie and I walked both cuts on the west (mainline) side only as trees were growing alongside the cars on the east side. There were a couple near-cherries in the bunch but most had been tagged up pretty good but I love dead paint schemes regardless and it's another thing checked off the to-do list.
ps after this I went to the 13th Street Market & Restaurant in Cadillac for breakfast. Place was GREAT! They essentially reverse engineered a Cracker Barrel.

I've been "tagged" not once but twice over the last few days, so as promised, here are 10 things that you may or may not want to know about me...
1) I am a very well balanced individual...I have a large chip on each shoulder.
2) I am an impulsive person and sometimes/usually act without thinking. This brings me joy and sorrow in equal measures. I believe that it is better to regret something that you did than something that you did not do.
3) I have an addictive personality and when I start to develop an interest in something, I devote way to much time and effort to it, whatever it may be. Again, this has brought me joy and sorrow in equal measures in the past.
4) I have been blessed with good teeth, inherited from my father. I almost never go to the dentist, however as a child, I had a very bad experience in the dentists chair, during a tooth extraction. The anaesthetic wore off mid-procedure and I came round with a man ripping out one of my teeth with a pair of pliers. Nasty.
5) I never had an interest in learning a second language until recently. I am currently teaching myself to speak Swahili and also learning Maasai through a friend in Kenya. There are no teaching courses in Maasai, so the language must be learned from a native speaker.
6) I have been close to death on so many occasions...bomb blasts, shootings, beatings, hypothermia, falls...I guess it's just not my time...yet.
7) I have an honours degree in Human Anatomy, which in hindsight was a complete waste of time. My course involved dissecting an old lady from head to toe, (including cutting off the head and toes), among other things.
8) If it were not for my faith in God, I would have quit life a long time ago. Let me clarify what I mean. I am not talking about religion here. Religion is for idiots. I'm talking about a personal, real, living faith that has manifested in me acting out the things I profess to believe, instead of just reading about them in a Bible. It has brought me so high and into the most insane situations. To be frank, it's so good, I'm addicted. And I don't mean to rattling a tambourine and shouting Hallelujah.
9) I believe in living and letting live. No one on earth is fit to judge another man/woman and any that do are just pompous hypocrites, the kind you find overpopulating most churches, keeping the pews warm and with no actual purpose in their lives. Let the blind lead the blind...sooner or later they will all end up in the ditch.
10) I recently started a charitable organisation called Jericho Springs, to raise funds to pay for children in East Africa with clubfeet to receive operations and physiotherapy to enable them to walk again.
No big deal, I'm nothing special and have zero experience. We did some fundraising and by the end of August, we will have put 6 children through surgery and a further 5 children under 2 through a casting procedure to enable them to walk. The money is still coming in and more kids are being lined up.
All co-ordinated from my laptop and a telephone 6,000 miles away. If I can make a difference, so can you. Stop talking, start doing.
Lastly, if you're interested in the above, I made a short promotional film about it during a visit to Kenya in April this year. You can view it here...(it takes about 20 seconds to start)

My first studio shoot! YAY! Mark and Katie contacted me through Model Mayhem. Of course I had to say yes, they were both great too – a real credit to all semi professional photographers out there! Hopefully I can work with them more!
So, you guys polled and I delivered, yes I know the poll is currently tying between pin-up and nude, but sorry guys – you’re just going to have to put up with pin-upshots :-P
I have a TON of these I want to put up – I’m just being so lazy at the moment lol. Anyway, I photoshopped this a lot more then the other 2 – I wanted to convey a sort of warm pin-up style – you know more like the traditional ones. I love how shiny I turned out lol. Like I’m freaking glowing or something – ah well I suppose that how it’s supposed to look. I like how you can actually see the cherries on my dress in this one – a few people were like “wtf? Are they red poka dots, or flowers or what” – for the record They are CHERRIES on a BLUE background! I can’t wait to do some more of these – I’m in love with the pin-upness of it all.
Burbage Spring Hike Pt.2:
I spent a little while in Padley Gorge taking the route up along the brook seeing if there were any compositions I'd missed from previous trips (inevitable) and to see how the change in water flow changed ones I'd already visited. I spent a little time at two locations but ultimately didn't find anything that spoke to me once I got to looking at them in Lightroom. The next portion of my hike took me along Burbage Edge/Rocks, a new route for me and one I thoroughly enjoyed, with incredible views of Carl Wark and Higger Tor that I had not yet seen. Again I found a couple of comps, but nothing that really stuck in the conditions I had.
What did catch my eye however, were that bands of rain were working their way along Hope Valley and I knew that if I got myself onto Stanage Edge I'd be able to capture the rain rolling in and if I was lucky; some of the intense dappled light in between showers and maybe, just maybe some crepuscular rays. I spent a good amount of time carefully working my way along the gritstone edge looking for interesting shaped rocks, indentations, fracture lines and other geological features, which are abundant at Stanage. The abundance of interesting features is a curse and a blessing to anyone using a wide-angle lens in particular, but the reality is that only certain ones have the direction of movement (or at least the suggestion of movement) into the frame that I look for when shooting scenes like this.
The subject taken care of, next was the conditions. The weather was that of great contrast in short periods of time, both of these photographs were less than half an hour apart from one another. Friends and family often say to me "I hope the weather is nice for you!" when I go out to the peaks but in reality the dramatic and sometimes downright nasty weather is some of my favourite to photograph and to hike in. To this end, I rejoiced as I saw a thick sheet of rain headed my way and even happier that I was able to get all of my various focal points throughout the scene shot before the rain reached me, another suggested element of movement I wanted in the frame. After the rain, the sun broke through and transformed what I saw before me, although if you were to ask me which was my favourite; you probably already know the answer! Had this been in winter or towards sunset the sun would have crept under the perfect gap on the horizon creating both light and drama in one photograph, something I'm looking forward to capturing later in the year.

I think 160-200 works great with this emulsion. Visually the difference between this and Superpan isn't that big but this film moves into the Infrared sooner than Superpan - ISO 40 - without a filter.
Handheld at ƒ2.8 1/2 [I think it was 1/2000sec] it's still impressively sharp - much more than Superpan. Still tweaking this reversal process and version 3.5 has a bit more grain than I would have expected.

Thanks for watching.
A great big kiss to my sweet and talented friends who have written touching testimonials about me in the few months I have been on Flickr. Thank You!
And speaking of friends, I have been tagged once again, this time by one of my most unique and funniest contacts, Max Ago, to reveal a bit more about myself, so here it is...
1. I have a beauty mark on my bottom lip which makes the print of my lips almost as unique as my fingerprint.
2. I am as comfortable in high heels as I am barefoot.
3. I have kissed a girl and I liked it.
4. My favorite number is 13....it has always brought me luck.
5. What I find most attractive in a man are a capacity for self-expression and a great sense of humor. What I find least attractive are immaturity and a short temper.
6. I am extremely loyal, sometimes to a fault.
7. I am fluent in Italian and Spanish as well as English, and I studied French for years.
8. The strangest food I have eaten is camel, which I ate unknowingly while traveling through North Africa one year; and no, I didn't like it and it did not taste like chicken.
9. My earliest childhood memory is of trying to sit in an inflatable beach chair which kept sliding away from under me and landing me on the floor.
I am tagging three of my lovely contacts.......the insightful hhrahman77, the talented
anandroid’smemoirs, and the charming Cicius......please post a photograph of your choice and tell us 9 to 16 random things about yourself.....and don't forget to post your photograph here!

Camera Panasonic G3 purchased yesterday from Ffordes.
1st test shots to evaluate it over my old G1.
So far I like it, but wouldn't say some of the mods made to the camera were for the better. Like the loss of the auto evf/vf sensor for switching between the 2.
I'm not a big fan of touchscreen either prefering knobs and buttons instead. But maybe that's just me!
Only really bought it for the 1:1 aspect ratio option! Crazy eh! But cheaper than Hassy!
Lens: my old G1 kit lens.
Thanks for looking and enjoy!
Oh and a quick mention to Ffordes, 1st class service as always. Thanks guys!
Morning at the opera house.
I was there the day before in the afternoon and tried to create a shot like this but it was crowded and the light wasn't as nice. I was spending the day in Sydney with my wife and son and photography wasn't the main priority so I also didn't bring the tripod.
Once I had envisioned this shot I wanted to get it right so I got up early the next morning to try for some nice morning light and sunrise color. The sunrise was all gray that day but the diffused light was good so I tried to be sure to expose correctly for the sky and of course this time I brought my travel tripod.
I took 9 shots, vertically oriented, with my Pentax K-5 and Pentax DA 15mm f/4 Limited (a favorite lens) and stitched them together in Photoshop CS5. I also did some level adjustments in Lightroom 4 and final touches in Nik Color Efx Pro 2.
I'm happy with how it turned out, even if I didn't get a spectacular sunrise!
What you see here; are 3 law enforcement officers, walking up to my front door. The guy with the cowboy hat; loudly knocks on the door. The one far to his right; is turning on or adjusting his body camera. There is another one between them; to the far rear.
What they are here for; is an incident that happened the evening before, on 1-5-25. I was making dinner that night and didn’t check my phone notifications, until much later that night. I received several security notifications, from multiple security cameras, outside of my house. I reviewed them; and saw two people walking through my front yard, with a flashlight. Entering from the far north of my truck and other drive; pictured center left of the image. They walked through the length of my front yard and to the south, side of my house. Swinging, a lit flashlight, instead of shining it at any spicific location. They, then left my yard the same way. A minute later; a Sheriff’s SUV, pulled into my yard, at the same location. A Deputy stepped out of the vehicle. He walked in the same direction, first shinning his flashlight, towards my front door. My porch and garage lights, were both on at the time. He walked to the sme area the others did. He then turns around, goes running back to his vehicle. By then, the two that were in my yard; came walking back from the road, to the back, then passenger side of the vehicle. They seemed to talk for a minute. The Deputy got back in the vehicle, pulled further into my yard, not my drive, then backed up and left. The two in my yard, were standing in my neighbors drive. They also had a kid with them. They looked familiar, and I’m pretty sure who they are. No one, stopped at my door, to let me know what was going on.
It was late when I viewed this, so I thought, I’d call the Sheriff’s department the next day. I called at 1:08 pm, on Sunday. I spoke with the dispatcher, told her what I saw, and asked if someone could tell me what happened, on my property. After a short hold; she said, the Sheriff was requested by the City for assistance. She said I would have to call the City Police and ask them. I told her, very tactfully; I don’t trust anything from the City Police. Not to offend you, but the Sheriff’s vehicle was the one in my yard, and a Deputy walking through my yard. Could I speak to someone with the Sheriff’s department, to let me know what was going on, on my property? She said, she would have someone call me back. I waited about 3 ½ hours, then called them back. The same dispatcher said; I’ll refer you to the phone number, for the City Officer on duty. I knew exactly who was on duty, the guy in the image, walking to my front door, with the Cowboy hat. He’s the guy I mentioned in a previous post. A City Police Officer, that abuses his authority, tries to intimidate, by making threats, yelling and making false statements. That incident was previously captured on my doorbell camera. I asked again, to speak with with a Deputy.
After another hold, I spoke with, what I thaught was a Deputy. I told him, I’m not trying to offend anyone, please don’t take this personal. I don’t want to speak with the City Police, I’ve had problems with them. It wasn’t City police in my yard, it was a Sheriff Deputy. I’ve had trouble with my neighbors, I’d just like to know what happened in my yard. I have very hateful neighbors, that use their kids, grand kids, great-grand kids; to harass me and my service dog. He was respectful, said he would haves someone call me shortly.
Well, 2 hours later, as I was making dinner again; these 3 officers show up at my front door. The officer I told the dispatcher twice, the Deputy, I didn’t want to talk to, is knocking on my front door. There was no reason why they should be there. They could have settled this with a simple phone call. THIS WAS AN ATTEMPTED ACT OF INTIMIDATION. I say “ATTEMPTED”, because I wasn’t intimidated. What I was, was appalled. These 3 officers could be out making a positive impact on their community, but here they are. Wasting time and resources (3 officers, 2 vehicles). Putting a dark shadow and probably, increased risk; to the good officers, serving their communities. All this, to try and intimidate little-o-me. Some officers, and I say some, are offended; when someone stands up for their rights, someone dare speak the truth. Even, in a tactful manner.
These guys were expecting me to open the door. I spoke through the doorbell speaker. Cowboy Bob, steps away from the door after knocking. The Deputy, fidgeting with his body camera steps to the door.Yes, it’s a magical doorbell camera, with audio. It actually shows and tells the truth. I asked; what can I do for you? He said we are here to let you know what was going on last night. Or, something in that order. He told me that 2 caretakers, had a 14 yo, girl, takeoff and was hiding in the woods. The City requested assistance, and they were looking for her. I s aid “if someone would have told me, I would have helped them”. I was really thinking; if the 2 caretakers are the 2, I’m thinking of, I don’t blame the girl for running off. I know it sounds cruel, but I have some extremely vile, hateful neighbors. I said I wish someone would have told me. Walking around on my property, without permission, is trespassing. I said thank you and they left.
The actions of these three, have a direct impact on the morale, of the good men and women serving in Law Enforcement.
Seriously, this could have been done with a simple phone call.
I’m not against Law Enforcement. I am against Corrupt Law Enforcement. Law Enforcement; that uses acts like this, to intimidate and harass someone. To validate the actions of Neighborhood and Community Hate Committees. Law Enforcement that abuse their authority. I’ve had people trowing trash in my yard. Tampering with my vehicles and property, entering my home and garage. They dismiss all this, or make excusses.
Note: The house in the far background, with the garage door open; is a Perp thing. I bought my house in January, moved in, then the garage door stayed open 2/7. It’s called baiting.
Gangstalking is real. You know; the ones that can’t think for themselves. The ones with no fulfillment in their lives, full of hate. Those that will use their own children, grand and great grandchildren, pets; to harass a total stranger and their family. The guys with the big loud trucks and little brains. The Post Office workers, that deliver your mail after the holidays, your birthday, or not at all. The ones so insecure, they’ll take acceptance from anyone, anygroup. These are some of the Malevolent Characteristics of a Gangstalker.
Many will try to keep these truths, from the public. The good news is; their propaganda machines are starting to be exposed. Our corrupt government agencies, bias national media and corporations are being exposed by ligament podcast and professionals in many fields. In time, many more Americans, will wake up and realize they have been lied to for decades, even centuries.
If you are a Targeted Individual, violence is not the answer. Harm to yourself, or others will only feed into their false narratives. I know it’s hard, but believe in yourself. Document everything, every day. Expose them if you can. Try and find humor in their idiotic behavior. Stay away from the Rabbit Holes online, that claim to help TIs. They are full of false operators, trying to discredit everything about you. Whether you stand up to a school board, an employer, a government agency. You know who you are, don’t let anyone take that from you.
I am not anti-government. I am, anti-corruption. The only threat I possess; is exposing the corruption, that prevents us from being a Nation, all are proud to live in. Thanks for visiting my photostream. If feel my photostream may help someone, that feels they are alone in this, Please share a link. All photos, content are free to copy, download and share. hola! happy cinco de mayo :D hahah.
my spanish teacher wouldn't let us have a fiesta today and all the other spanish classes got one. we were upset:(
i am having a more positivie outlook on life today. even though im tired and dont want to do my homework and wish today was friday instead of thursday, i just feel whole and complete. it's mighty dandy i gotta tell ya:)
ten things i love about myself.
1) I am a friendly person. I smile at people to try and make their day better. I love saying hi and making people feel like they have a friend in me even if I barely know them. I enjoy walking down a hallway and being able to say "hi" to atleast three people.
2) I am a good friend. I listen when people are sad and I give advice to make them feel less alone and brighten their day. I am willing to take weight off people shoulders and loads off their plates.
3) I am funny and can make people laugh with things I do and say. I don't have to be anybody but myself and it can make someone smile.
4) I am unlike anyone else. I am random and spastic and wild and crazy and yet I can amazingly remain sober while being those things.
5) I do not and will not give into peer pressure. it doesn't work on me. I do what I think is right and I don't do what I think is wrong. sure I'm curious what kind of person I would be under an influence of some kind but I don't let that curiosity control my actions and I don't act on impulse. If I was somewhere with alcohol and drugs everywhere I still could restrain. you don't have to do something just because you can.
6) I am very social. although sometimes that gets me in trouble with teachers and such I find a way to make up for it and stay on their good sides ;D
7) I don't have a style. I love dressing up and being girly and glittery and I also love wearing some eyeliner and a beanie and holey jeans. I could come to school in a dress one day and a graphic t-shirt the next. I like being unpredictable like that.
8) I am a virgin and I have not nor will I ever send a sext. I am not controlled by hormones and there is only so far I am willing to go. my body is mine and when I let someone have it I will be completely ready.
9) I am approachable. I am not one of those people with a raincloud over my head and my back turned to the world. if you don't know me I still love when you greet me or talk to me.
10) I am Nicole. that pretty much sums up everything
I did this because today my boyfriend pointed out to me that I blame myself too often. and yes, quite honestly I do, and that's not okay. as much as I hate making anyone else feel bad I need to stop being an emotional punching bag. I want to love myself more. not be IN LOVE with myself like having an ego that won't fit through the door, but being proud of every fiber in me.
+4 in the comments.

Dustysigns76 tagged me to do this thing, it seemed like fun. 16 things about myself:
1.I'm the oldest of 5 total kids. I have one full brother, a half brother and sister on my mom's side, and a half brother on my dad's side. Between me and the youngest (sis) there is 12 years difference.
2. I love food. The whole process of choosing what to have, eating it, and enjoying the satisfying feeling after. I prefer something salty to something sweet any day.
3. I am afraid of flying. I grew up flying to see my father in the summers, and it didn't bother me as a kid. In my teenage years the logic started to kick in, and by my twenties I avoided flying at all costs. I do it now, but only on a necessary basis.
3. I am a grammar nazi. Misspelled words and incorrect punctuation, etc. jump out at me and bug me. I correct people when I notice it, in a nice way of course :)
4. I grew up very religious, and most of my family still is. I was a music pastor in a church in CO for 5 years. My beliefs now are a mixture of doctrines, and I respect all people's religious beliefs.
5. I have 3 tattoos, and want a few more.
6. I love words. I love learning new ones, and resurrecting old ones that no one uses anymore. Words can capture an emotion or a feeling like nothing else.
7. I have no talent or patience for video games. I have tried to play them, even in my childhood, and could never get the knack for it. When all my friends were beating Super Mario Bros. time and time again, I was on the outside looking in.
8. I love dogs, don't like cats.
9. I was married to a woman for 5 years, and have two sons from that marriage.
10. I remember details. I have a memory full of useless factoids, which makes me useful in trivia games. But I can be forgetful with everyday things, go figure!
11. Though I am a gay man, I don't identify with most things gay. I don't like gay bars, dance music, Cher or Madonna, leather, drag queens, gay events, shopping, cocktails (or even the word "cocktail"), Margaret Cho, Logo......and the list goes on.
12. I have a goal of visiting every major baseball park in America. I have seen many in the west coast to midwest, and was sad I didn't get to see the original Yankee Stadium before its retirement.
13. I've never been materialistic, and it doesn't take much to make me happy: my hubby, a warm bed to sleep in, a job I like, and good friends.
14. I am a singer/songwriter, and a music fanatic. Music is my top passion in life, and it's the one thing in my head that never stops. Everything I hear reminds me of a song, and I constantly have one playing in my mind.
15. I am a quiet mellow guy, and have a dry sense of humour. I'm a bit insecure when I first meet people, and it takes me a while to warm up. But once I do, I really enjoy making people laugh.
16. Most times I wish I had been born in an earlier time period, around the 30s or 40s. I love everything from that era and often dream of it. Several people have called me an "old soul."
Now I'll tag todd*, realmusclebear, chiprussell, and cougpdx.
Thanks Ken. Now I have to come up with 16 things you may or may not want to know about me:
#1 The photo shows me finishing my first marathon in Frankfurt back in 2003. I swore it would be my last. Yes, I look tired and shagged, but then so would you :-) Since then I have finished 4 others.
#2 I love to cook for myself and for friends, mostly Indian, Chinese and Thai.
#3 I was born in a pub (explains a lot of things, really).
#4 I did a somewhat unusual degree at university - chemistry and German.
#5 If pressed, I would probably say that my favourite book is "The Gormenghast Trilogy" by Mervyn Peake - if you don't know it, read it.
#6 Music is absolutely essential for me. Favourite bands include Sigur Ros, Yes, Dream Theater, Metallica, Tenhi, Third and the Mortal, Strapping Young Lad, Pink Floyd, Tri Yann, Tool, Tiamat, King Crimson, The Cure, Dead Can Dance, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Anathema.
#7 I have been living in Darmstadt, Germany, since 1981 and I consider it to be my real home town.
#8 I have been a scuba diving instructor since 1992 and I love being on, in, under or near the sea.
#9 I loath all forms of religious bigotry and hatred
#10 I dream and think in German
#11 I really like the Wallace and Gromit films (OK, add Roadrunner cartoons to that)
#12 I never eat fish and chips, and I never drink tea, which is probably why I left England.
#13 My favourite painters are Salvador Dali, Vincent van Gogh and my mother.
#14 My favourite comedian is/was Bill Hicks.
#15 I have an almost unhealthy interest in the history of the 1st World War.
#16 I quite like taking photographs.

Wotancraft's Traveler's Notebook and City Explorer Camera Bag Review - Part 2
I've been using Wotancraft's Ranger bag for 25 days and it is only now suitable to give you this review from my personal experience. My Ranger was with me all the time during my business trip to Taipei and Shanghai, as well as daily uses after I came back to Hong Kong, in rainy days, hiking and beach side BBQ, etc.
The soul behind Wotancraft is James, whom started researching about 5 years ago to create a camera bag he would use. I had a great time visiting James and chatted about his creation for about an hour. The name and logo of the company bears a resemblance of the Warcraft role-playing game logo, but James never knew about it when he named the company. Wotancraft means in every sense a desire to achieve perfection in craftsmanship. "Wotan" the old high German form of "Odin", is a major god in Norse mythology who is associated with battle, victory, wisdom and magic. James would like his company to be a powerful one almost achieving a mythical status through highest possible quality standard. He believes careful craftsmanship is better than mass production. Let's see how much details are being put in this US$449 all purpose bag.
Ranger's distressed and nomadic look is not only defined by its unique navy grey canvas and dark brown leather mix, but also the carefully aging processes done to the material. For example, to achieve the effect, the canvas was washed, wrinkled, brushed and stained before a final wax coating was put on it. Although this aging thing sounds a bit superficial, but the minute you start to use it, you literally skip the honeymoon period trying to use the bag carefully, it feels like you've been using it for a while and it is part of you. I mean it, not to worry a bit about scratches on leather, nor to spend time intentionally distressing it heavily in order to feel a personal ownership.
The look is just one of the many carefully planned features of a Ranger. A lot of the satchels you see in the market have those two straps coming down from the top over the flap, they are there mostly for decorative purpose and not designed to function. Ranger's straps are there because James wanted to solve one problem, to carry a jacket when you don't have an extra hand. I'm sure many of you have the same problem, the places we go to take photos can have huge temperature differences, nobody wants to carry a larger volume bag just to take care of the jacket. These straps became very handy because they are extra long yet adjustable, I could tie my scarf or slide my leather jacket beneath them with zero efforts during business trips. On rainy days, I also carry a retractable umbrella like that for quick access.
Two additional straps fixed to the bottom of Ranger can also be used to carry your jacket or tripod.
Let's talk about external pockets. There are two side pockets for small stuffs, I wish they were big enough to put my iPhone though. The two front pockets are large enough for small cameras like my Natura Classica or Olympus EP-3 with pancake lens. One problem with these front pockets is that there is no flap to secure the contents inside, I might have to stitch a leather flap with snaps by myself someday so that I can feel safer to put camera or keychains in them. This is obviously a point for improvement.
Behind the front pockets is a zip pocket large enough to put your iPad, this became my quick access pocket to important things like my Traveler's Notebook. Now these three pockets are behind the bag's leather flap, but you don't need to unfasten the snaps to access them, just quickly pull over the flap to reveal and retrieve, very handy and speedy!
Gear protection. Heavily inspired by WWII aesthetics, Wotancraft highlights Ranger with aluminum buckles and brass snaps on the outside, but gets serious with gear protection on the inside. The removable MK.I pouch, using the same material as military hovercraft's air cushion on the surface, sealed by YKK water-repellent zipper, is almost 100% waterproof. According to James, he is planning a MK.II version which is completely seamless with even better waterproof features. Well, waterproofing is not what I'm looking for, but you can see how dedicated he is to the details.
On both the MK.I pouch and the external bag, there are hidden velcros. They are there to make sure your MK.I pouch is fixed firmly inside the bag, but when they are not needed, the velcros are hidden to prevent scratching on your equipments. The inside of MK.I pouch is made from high density foam covered with very smooth micro fiber cloth, making camera retrieval a low friction effort in addition to the heavy duty protection. Four dividers are provided so that you can create your own suitable compartments. I can put 3 cameras inside: Canon F1 with 85mm f1.2 lens, Voigtlander R4A with Nokton 35mm f1.2 lens, Olympus EP-3 with 12mm f2.0 lens.
So literally you have 3 layers of protections. Waterproof anti-shock MK.I, external waxed canvas bag with zipper and the leather flap. For my daily use, I actually don't need the MK.I pouch, I usually put a slimmer Artisan & Artist inner pouch to carry 1 camera, the Ranger immediately shrinks into a transit friendly casual bag.
Here's some more smart features of the Ranger. For a large bag like this, it takes time to unzip all the way and resistance at the two corners is inevitable. If you are not a zipper person like me, you can leave the canvas cover half zipped half opened, this can be achieved by folding the cover in half, it snaps in place by itself because of the built in magnets, it makes cameras accessible yet secure inside, very smart design. If you are an insecure person and always want to zip up everything, speedy access is still possible because there is a small leather tab you can leave dangling outside, with just one quick pull of the tab, both zipper heads fly open in split seconds! James nailed it, satisfying men's desire to access their tools with speed, imagine this design on a pair of jeans :)
A final note on features. There is a laptop compartment inside the canvas bag, suitable for my 13" Macbook Air or 15" models. There are small pockets for pen and accessories sitting behind the laptop compartment as well, although I don't use them that much.
I have to mention the weight, which is important to photographers. My Saddleback briefcase medium size is a heavy 2.95 kg monster, I love the bag but I just can't use it to carry cameras, it is killing my shoulders and spine. Wotancraft's Ranger is 1.72 kg without the MK.I pouch (which is 0.52 kg by itself). The reason why it is slightly heavier than a typical canvas bag is that wax was not only coated but actually soaked thoroughly into the canvas, you can see I had no hesitation to leave my Ranger on a wet football field in one of the photos. The softness of cushioned canvas also makes it more comfortable to body than hard thick leather used on the Saddleback briefcase (well I know, Saddleback's was never designed for photographers anyway).
The shoulder strap. Beautiful piece of craftsmanship, it feels very comfortable hanging down the shoulder or diagonally crossing the body. Even though its length is adjustable, I still found it a bit too long coz I like to carry weight close to my center of gravity (I'm 5'8" last time I checked 20 years ago). So I did a little modification to suit my need. There are two small built in D-rings near each end of the shoulder pad, I stitched safety hooks on them with scrap leather, giving me an option to shorten or quick releasing the strap in 5 possible lengths. Now I can carry my Ranger comfortably as a messenger bag or as a clutch bag.
If you are new to Wontancraft's Ranger, I must remind you to use sand paper to blunt the buckle pins coz they are very sharp. I also found that some of the leather edge finishing paint may fall off, I have no problem with that because it helps to give the distressed look I like about Ranger. In any case, Wotancraft is serious about quality, according to Wotancraft and both distributors I know (one from Hong Kong (Annie Barton), one from Netherlands (Vintage 217)), they are fully committed to give Wotancraft users complete satisfaction, just shoot them an email if you need support, they are all decent and nice people as far as I know. Again, Wotancraft is not a corporation but just a few artisans behind doing what they enjoy most, you can expect friendly services and dedication to details. I would give Ranger a 9.5 out of 10 score as a cool stylish and function rich camera/casual bag.
During my discussion with James in their Taipei showroom, he told me that he is designing a future add-on to the Ranger bag, a strap to convert Ranger into a backpack! I need that James! Especially in a long day I need it to be a backpack, then it is perfect!
A week ago, Steve Huff reviewed Wotancraft's City Explorer Paratrooper camera bag, check out his video below.

please read :) if not, just the end then!
365. the end. {note, if you want to see the rest of my 365 - check it out quick because my pro account expires in 5 days}
it's not an epic photo, but it represents a concept important to me.
but first, a bit of an apology/explanation. as many of you know, i was not always punctual with my 365. i had school work, and work, and work. but i kept through it, and i'm pretty damn proud of myself for finishing it. but i think inside i always knew i would, i'm so stubborn and persistent at times. some people quit because their lives are too busy, but i finished it anyway.
i want to thank all the people that have supported my work this past year, it means so much to me - and i love you all.
now here is where i talk about how this changed my life. well, in all truthness from year to year we all change - become new people. but having a 365 let's you actually see and feel how you changed. it let's you remember.
half of my 365 were snapshots (not good photos), but they remind me of the day that they were taken.
but life you know, does what it wants. i'm not sad it's ending, because i'm not going to stop. i'm just glad that the stress is over and i have time to myself. sure, it doesn't take much out of my day to take a 365 - but it's all that's on your mind. + i've got a ton of new projects i want to start (including the 52 weeks to keep my flickr active)
i do feel like i'm a year older. i've made more mistakes, learned from them, and opened my eyes a bit wider to the world around me.
this ties into my last 365. it's not a picture of me during golden hour throwing my arms into the sky. and it's not epic. i was inspired when i saw something on my tumblr dashboard that said "i wish i could turn back time and fix my mistakes" with a good amount of notes.
i don't wish this, because without mistakes - how would we learn and become better? everyone makes them, it's a part of life. your experiences become part of you and personality. it's not something time can wish away.
every little strand (beautiful or ugly) became a part of me. happy and sad moments that make me the person i am. i left the other braid empty because 1) takes forever to do and 2) i want to to show that places i have yet to go, the people i have yet to meet, and the things i have yet to experience.
thank you.
{extras and rant version }
now photo wise, this came out terribly and i WILL FIX IT SOON.
My first ever "decisive moment"-ish photo. It's not much, but it's memorable for me because 1) of how I took it 2) I managed to correctly anticipate the exposure with a film camera on full manual.
Taken using a Nikon FM2n with a Nikkor 35mm F2.0 AI-S.
so i finalllllly got back my film. have learned a couple of things:
1) it is fucking expensive. like holy shit. and i am not really pleased with the resolution of the scans on the CD i requested. may try a different photo lab next time.
2) i SUCK at manual focusing. need to work on that. ruined a good number of good shots with horrible focusing.
3) i take too many flowers and street shots.
4) i lost 3 shots out of 10 in the 120 roll. whoops?! damnit.
even though my first round didn't go amazingly, i'm still looking forward to shooting more! though i will definitely have to set aside funds for this.
this was taken with a pentax 67 and fuijfilm pro400 :)

Massanutten Peak - Massanutten Mountain Range - Shenandoah Valley of Virginia
Spring is an awesome season - there's nothing quite like the rebirth of the earth. From the valley floors to the high elevation mountains, watching nature come alive after the Winter slumber is a spectacular once-a-year event. It is so cool to see the vibrant Spring colors creep their way up the mountainsides, the view from either below or above is simply amazing.
I am spreading my 'photographic wings' as of late, and giving the wildlife (and myself) a break. I don't have to pursue or try to keep up with a landscape - ha! :-)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Appalachian Virginia there are three recognized topographic belts: the Blue Ridge, the Great Valley and the Alleghany mountains.
The Shenandoah Valley is bounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains to the east and the Allegheny Mountains to the west. The valley is about 160 miles long and 30 miles wide. It is part of the Great Valley of the Appalachians, and divided into two parts by Massanutten Mountain.
Massanutten is a 50-mile long, 6-mile wide mountain range which bisects the Shenandoah Valley just east of Strasburg (in Shenandoah County in the north), to its highest peak east of Harrisonburg (in Rockingham County in the south), which is the section shown in my photo above, and not far from where I live. The towers you see on the peak are part of the Massanutten Resort. (see the 2 pics below)
The Shenandoah Valley is drained by the Shenandoah River, which flows in two forks (the North and South Forks) on both sides of the Massanutten Mountain.
