We're waiting here

Waiting for you, God

With our hopes and fears

We come empty hands held out

Lord, draw us near

Heal these broken hearts

And lift us up to fall before everything You are

Yeah, before everything You are

There were soo many bugs there! I hate bugs... haha...

I think it's gonna rain again... :(

So I was tagged :)

Yay!

Not sure if I'm that interesting though...

Oh, I was tagged by FallonSaile•Photography .

1. I have very bad memory. Sometimes I won't even be able to remember what I did the day before.

2. I always have great ideas for what to write if I'm tagged, but right now my head is empty.

3. I like watching Canada's Next Topmodel. Or Germany's Next Topmodel.

4. If I know that I have to get something done so that I can do what I want to do, I'll most likely sit around moping about having to wait rather than doing it.

5. I'm allergic to animal hair but I don't care, I ignore it.

6. If my friends do something with someone else, and I'm left "alone" I will immediately go into Flash-depression and think that my friends hate me. Hah.

7. I hate it when people act like they're too cool to do something.

8. I say thing, something, anything, or anything with "thing" in it a lot...

9. I have a lot of phobias. A lot of fears. I'm trying to get over them though.

10. Since I'm deathly afraid of wasps/bees/hornets/etc. I will sometimes pretend they're a kitty-cat so that I'm not so scared because they smell fear. I think it works... sometimes...

If I tagged you, I'm genuinely interested in you :)

Just sayin' :D

#9. Jumping shots. Man, I love 'em. No better way to break up an otherwise mundane afternoon than to take a flying leap off the picnic table and strike a Spiderman pose just in time for the shutter snap.

10 Things: (November)

Okay, so I was tagged not once but twice....thanks Mike...H and SLRCindy (Queen Bee Baking Company)'s photostream

Does that mean I have to do 20??? I think not.... I am just going to bask in my popularity on flickr at the moment.

Pull up a glass of wine and enjoy these 10 little things about me....

1. I was born in Georgia, spent my childhood years in North Carolina, went to high school and college in Virginia, have raised my children in Maryland…I won’t be going any further north any time soon though…I hate real cold weather!

2.I used to be a gymnast – my best achievements were doing an ariel (a cartwheel with no hands) and a roundoff backflip. It turns out I wasn’t that good, so I switched to Cheerleading…more fun, more boys…

3.I have been to three Grateful Dead concerts – my best memory was the one at RFK (in Washington DC) when a naked guy ran down the steps past us, jumped over the rail and onto the field, was taken down, handcuffed and carried away by police officers.

4.I don’t like gooey stuff to touch my hands – therefore, I always keep a towel nearby when I cook. I hate lima beans – too mushy. The texture of scrambled eggs gives me the heebie jeebies and I can’t eat raw tomatoes unless they have lots of ranch dressing on top. I guess you could say that I am a little “tactile defensive”.

5.I am a social worker. I spent the first part of my career working in the neonatal intensive care unit at a regional hospital center. For the last 10 years I have been working in the field of child protection. Every time I think I have seen or heard it all, I am surprised (not always in a good way) by something that makes it to my desk….one thing is for sure, you have to have a gallows sense of humor in my line of work.

6.I am mildly dyslexic – so I switch numbers, can never remember which is left and which is right, and words look funny to me a lot of the time.

7.My first car was a yellow Volkswagen beetle.

8.One time when I was in college, a friend and I had just returned from driving overnight from Key West to Virginia Beach. We were pulled over by a cop (I was driving and oh so tired). He made us both get out of the car and separated us and asked us lots of questions – I guess you could say we were being interrogated. After about an hour, he finally let us go – giving me a ticket for a “broken windshield wiper”. As we drove out of town we heard on the radio that a bank had been robbed earlier that day and the suspects were two females driving a yellow beetle!

9.I’ve always wanted to work in a library – putting away the books, getting lost in the stacks, not having to talk to anyone or solve other peoples’ problems….

10.I met my husband in college at UVA during a fraternity party. Please don’t tell him, but I ordered a 50mm lens yesterday for my camera….he isn’t quite sure what to think about the “little phase” I am going through…midlife crisis or just a new “hobby”???

There you go.

So now I am supposed to tag others...who will the lucky ones be?

10 Things: Photographs of beds with sun streaming onto them.

This is my third favorite photo from the trip (I'll show you the second one later), because it reminds me of how I felt when I lay on that bed in the middle of the afternoon, in between cleaning iguana poop and learning how to say "She informed him that the radio was broken" in Spanish, momentarily clean from the shower, wasps buzzing across the room, the air warm and sweet, my head full of nothing but that bed, that room, that hostel, that town, that green, green, country.

These Dunlop boots have very thick soles and steel toes. They're at least fifteen years old, bought during my private detective period. I wore them when I had to tramp around through arson scenes. Now I just use them to tramp around on muddy turf.

I keep a few items from previous careers...my old medic's bag, some artifacts from my days as a counselor in a prison for women, my arson boots...because they remind that who I am today is partly a product of who I was then.

L'aggiungo solo ora alle 10things di Febbraio perchè l'ho acquistata diversi giorni fa..ma solo oggi sono riuscita a fotografarla... :)

Non è bellissima?? La mia macchinetta del caffè tutta cuoriciosa?!?!?

10 Things: (October)

I was tagged by a great Flickr bud, Beckaroonie. That means, (a) I have to post a selfie and (b) tell ten things about myself. I don't know who has been tagged. So consider yourself on the honor system: if you've never been tagged, put yourself in this image answer 10 on your next post. If you've been tagged, you could still comment.

1.This image was actually taken by my daughter at my her wedding rehearsal party in Charleston, SC in July, 2007. She informed me that seersucker is de rigueur for “gentlemen” in the summer evenings in Charleston.

2.I have performed for money on at least: guitar, fiddle, anglo concertina, hammer dulcimer, melodeon, “penny whistle”, alto recorder, harmonica, bodhran, bones, lap dulcimer, mandolin and mountain-style banjo. I’ve played in rock bands, jazz bands, Irish sessions, 18th C. reenactments and church.

3.I was in a PBS series called Fret and Fiddle with a band called Hobson’s Choice. I’ve performed at the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, and a Fret and Fiddle Special was about the show.

4.I have a daughter, son-in-law and two grands in Texas. My daughter would rather I didn’t post the grands on Flickr. Oh how I wish you could see them.

5.Once, while working for the Drug and Alcohol office of the USAF, I tracked a dangerous heroin dealer for a day around a city, at personal risk to my life.

6.I’ve had three dads. My father was killed by organized criminals when I was 6 months old because he wouldn't sell his juke-box business to them.

7.I’ve traced my direct male ancestors to Baden, Germany 1540! One of my ancestors was in the 13th Virginia Legislature.

8.My mother played resnophonic steel body mandolin on the radio in a Carter-family style duo.

9.I have another daughter who would be 39 in December. She only lived two days and died on December 21st.

10.I’m a published (junior) author of an article in Psychology Review about multi-modal behavior therapy

I was tagged by Claire last week, and am finally getting around to writing out 10 things about myself.

1. I love it when people put descriptions for their pictures on flickr, but I rarely do it. I can never think of anything interesting to say!

2. During the holidays, I must watch "Home Alone" at least once, and "Elf" at least twice. "Elf" must also be watched on Christmas Day. No exceptions.

3. I have naturally frizzy, wavy hair that I've straight permed on and off the past 6 years. It's in its wavy state right now and I am SO TEMPTED to straighten it again.

4. I'm quite good at Tetris. One time, a woman saw me playing Tetris, and thought it was the computer playing -- I was just that fast.

5. I am terrible at word games. I have a decent vocabulary, but it flies out the window whenever I try to play.

6. It's pretty much guaranteed that I'll like any food that's flavored with nutmeg or cinnamon.

7. You can actually see me in a video game, in a secret unlockable section. It's so embarrassing. (And no, I won't say what video game it is!)

8. I would love to be a volunteer photographer for a nonprofit, but I can't seem to find any nonprofits in the area with the need. And even if I did, I'm sure I'd chicken out because I don't think my photography is good enough yet!

9. I really, really want a film camera but can't afford it. Especially a Polaroid. *wistful sigh*

10. I had the hardest time writing this list. I think I must be the most boring person ever. :P

If you haven't been tagged yet and would like to share, I'm tagging you! I love to read these 10 things.

Tomorrow is my next milestone!

I was tagged a few days ago by tankgirlrs

My 10 things:

The gloves - I love them!

A disposable camera - to signify how much I love photography

My phone - I have it with me all the time. I'd be lost without it. Free mobile Facebook at work keeps me sane on quiet nights!

My Neighbour Totoro - can cheer me up no matter what

Goldfish crackers - I used to love these when I was a kid and spent a lot of time in America! My lovely friend Courtney sent me over a bag. Nomnomnom!

Masquerade mask - I love it, it's beautiful

Piggy bank - I save all 50ps, 20ps, 10ps, 5ps, 2ps and 1ps, and then count them up every few weeks. Whatever I've saved, gets spent on my stuff for photography!

Irish country relish - From work, this stuff is amazing! My friends refer to it as 'crack', because it is so good!

Teabag - I adore tea. I am not awake until I've had my morning brew.

Hodgeheg - Sam bought him for me, and we tend to take him everywhere :)

I did this 16 Things and 30 secrets in 30 days set , you guys can have a look!

10. Film rocks!

mm..no tags,,,tag yourself :D

I love dolls - these dolls hang out with me in my photostudio

I love the very idea of a hammock. In terms of sleep technology, it's fairly primitive. But in terms of design, it's surprisingly sophisticated. All of those ropes, coiled and knotted together in such an intricate pattern...it's almost a definition of the term 'craft.' A well-made hammock slung in a graceful arc between two trees is a joy to behold.

A good book, something cool to drink, and a hammock in the shade by the brook. The three pillars of contentment.

Tater tots: The comfort food to end all comfort foods. From the school caf to my southern Nana's kitchen, they've always been my gastrointestinal Achilles' Heal, throwing a wrench in any well-intentioned diet; inevitably leading to a big honkin' zit on my chin. I've learned to live with the zit (I have one now, as a matter of fact) and to give into my weakness for their deep-fried 'tatery goodness; if you bake them on 400 for 15 minutes they come out flawlessly crispy on the outside, encasing a soft pillow of carbohydrate-rich bliss. A little Heinz Ketchup and you've got yourself a perfect late-night premenstrual snack.

10 Things: When I get a portrait right, just for me.

The sound of a brook burbling over stones is enough to make me happy. The sound of the first drops of a rainshower plinking musically into the brook offers a counterpoint to the hypnotic susurration of the flowing water. It's all very soft and quiet, but profoundly moving to me.

10 Things:

Noodles and wontons always hit the spot.

I have had a lifelong love affair with books. And I love them not only for their abstract qualities of prose and imagery and ideas, but also for the very physical being of them: The way they look lined up on a shelf. The heft and weight of one in my hand. The aesthetics of a beautiful font rendered in black ink upon a white page. The smell of leather, and paper, and dust.

Books have taken me places I could have only imagined. They've opened my mind and broken my heart. They've been there for me when no one else was around. They've held a mirror up to my laughter and my pain, and let me know that I'm not alone.

Sweet dreams, Kodi Bear.

9/10 - Cats

The kitty in the background is Thud, one of the

four kitties (Thud is the one wearing the blue collar) that we bottle fed since they were about two weeks old.

At the time we were living up on a piece of property that we were caretakers for and lived with a few other people. Apparently one day when they were downtown some guy shoved a box full of kittens into the arms of one of the other caretakers and ran off; leaving them with a box full of cute little kitties. I wasn't there so I'm not sure if that's what really happened, but ether way they ended up back up at the property we were care-taking. Of course none of us complained since they were just so adorable and tiny.

Currently we only have two of the four kittens from the litter; Thud and Bastet.

Sadly Frig was one of the cats that died when the land we were on got invaded by a couple of foxes. ;_;

Though Cid is living happily with some friends.

I love them. I'd take a boquet of sunflowers over roses any day.

One of the 10 things I'm thankful for.

selfportrait: mr. gigi was kind enough to pull over by this field so that I could set up the tripod and play.

I saw a similar idea from someone else so it's not completely origional but I found these leaves out on a walk and had to compose them. 10 Things Nov. collecting fall leaves!

So I was tagged by Robb North and K.Deslandes for the 10 Random Things About Me (em, cheers guys:))....so here it is:

1) I'm an enormous bookworm....my house is full of them. At the moment I am (im)patiently waiting on George RR Martin to get a move on and finish 'A Dance with Dragons'

2) I have a degree in textile design which unfortunately I have never managed to use in my working life.....but it's probably the reason I'm so obsessed with adding textures to all of my photographs.

3) I am 6ft tall in my bare feet

4) I don't really like wine....I'm much more of a beer sort of girl!

5) I can't drive and I don't own a car. I bus it everywhere

6) Despite No.5) I love Formula 1 racing and have been to the French, Spanish and British GP's over the years

7) I watch far too much tv....I've spent most of this weekend on a True Blood marathon!

8) I have a large scar on my back from having a disc removed when I was 18....also another one from when my appendix burst. I am lucky that most of my scars are on the outside :)

9) I am a total night owl. I very rarely go to bed before midnight....all my best inspiration comes to me late on. Mornings suck!!!

10) I am a Secret Cloud Snapper .....I take a photograph of the sky ever day. I don't really know why I do this apart from the fact that the sky is an amazing piece of ever changing art which I find endlessly fascinating!

So there you go, I know I'm supposed to tag others but most of my contacts seem to have already done it!

i took this one this morning, and it made me happy all day just thinking about it

3/10 - Enjoying A Pot of Tea

If you couldn't guess from my username, I really love drinking tea. On an average day I'll drink at least 3 pots (the pots hold 2 cups of liquid, so they aren't really large pots of tea).

Also, now that the weather is cooling down I've been drinking more tea, since hot tea on a cold day is wonderful ^_^

So this photo is (obviously) inspired by *Cinnamon, and her beautiful window set.

I have been tagged by the amazingly talented Molly, www.flickr.com/photos/firstyallplay/4238289970/ so here are my ten things-

1. 2010 looks like it could, and most likely will be, the most exciting year of my life thus far. I'm graduating from college in May, and getting married in June. Right after the wedding, Eric & I will be moving in together, which means I'll be living in yet another city. I can't believe this is all happening in nearly 5 months from now.

2. I need to plan the wedding. We have ideas. Things like sitting on hay bales for the ceremony, having the wedding outside a barn on my friend's parents' land in the country, having lawn games like croquet and a badminton tournament, a pig roast, and dance in the barn to wrap up the night. All these things are plans, but I haven't really begun to figure out the logistics of it all. I should probably do that real soon. . .

3. Jesus is my rock.

4. I'm a pretty frugal person. There's a thrift store where Eric lives that prices their clothing per pound. I'm not kidding you. $1 per pound, to be exact. So now, when I go to the clearance rack of a store, and a shirt is $3, I pick it up, and scoff at how the thing doesn't even weigh a quarter of a pound, and they want $3 for it! It's bad, I know, but hey, Eric doesn't have to worry about a wife who goes on a shopping spree and spends loads of money, shopping sprees for me are normally under $10!

5. If 4 years ago you would have told me that when I get married I would be excited to be the type of wife who tries her best to have tasty food on the table when her hubby gets home, I wouldn't have believed you one bit. Eric is still a way better cook than me, but I love cooking, and I especially love cooking for other people.

6. I've just recently realized how much I've grown in photography within the past year. I bought my camera in May of '09, and since then I've learned a ton about photography. If you would have handed me an SLR a year ago and told me to take some pictures with it, I wouldn't have known what to do unless it was on automatic everything.

7. This past Saturday, for the first time I got to help photograph a wedding. A friend from college does wedding photography professionally (jkruit photography), and asked me if I'd like to come along to help out. I had an awesome time, (despite being nearly barefoot in -8 degree weather for 20 mins!), and learned quite a bit.

8. I don't own a tv, neither does Eric. We like to watch the Office online, along with Chuck. I don't think we'll ever own a tv though, there's just too much time that's wasted with it in my opinion.

9. I believe that foods have more of a nourishing effect than most people realize. I try my best to think about what kind of food I'm putting in my body, and if I know it's not going to benefit me in some way, I don't eat it. That being said, note that I did say I try my best. There are plenty of times you can catch me munching on tortilla chips, sneaking truffles from the freezer, or convincing others to go get ice cream with me.

10. I was in choir in high school, and miss it so much. Music is amazing. Some of my all-time favorite artists/bands are Sufjan Stevens, Simon & Garfunkel, Frank Sinatra, Fleet Foxes, Regina Spektor, Ben Folds, Crosby Stills & Nash, Nickel Creek, along with so many others.

I know I'm supposed to tag 10 others, but seriously, who hasn't done one of these yet? I'm going to try and find a handful of people, but if you haven't done it yet, and you're reading this, I tag YOU! (oh, and if I do tag you, and you don't want to do it, just untag yourself, no biggie.)

The matriarch is usually the oldest female in an extended family. Her authority over the others, as well as their trust in her, often stems from her knowledge and life skills, especially in the acquisition and distribution of food.

I love spring.

Here are the

Cosmos

Oh my goodness, I made it in time. I really wanted to make it before the clock hit twelve so that this would be posted on Dec 2nd, my birthday! :D

1. If you can count the number of candles, I'm already 19!!! :o

2. And spazzing over the awesome birthday cake that I had - McFly-style. Do you spot Danny, Tom, Dougie and Harry?

3. I added noise intentionally... really wanted the faded, film-ish look again... :)

4. I love birthdays - because there are candles and it makes the picture extra special. :D

5. Today I watched Rapunzel: A Tangled Tale, to celebrate my birthday! :) It was a really nice one and a half hours!

6. I also had Starbucks - it was the day where they gave away free tall-sized beverages and encourage you to donate to the Salvation Army! :) I donated! :D

7. I always wanted to say this, but I'm going to write a couple of testimonials for some special people here... let me know if you want one though, I'll be happy to write one for you!

8. I have decided to start a 52 week challenge.... it seems apt because it's also on my birthday, and in a year we'll be back on the same date, so... yes. This will be good for me. :) Also, I found out today my sister got a waterproof film toy camera for her birthday back in April... and she took it out to show me today. -.- Wow.

9. If you were wondering, I designed the picture on the cake, so yay!

10. I love December, it reminds you of snow, coldness, gloves, hot coffee, shaky breaths, birthdays, christmas, winter, white, lights, a calmness.... it's really indescribable. I mean, many people sing of December, so it has to be special yes? ;)

Hope your week goes well too. :)

~ Allen Ginsberg, Sunflower Sutra~

Two of the ten things that make me happy this month: the poetry of Allen Ginsberg and sunflowers.

two hundred and fifty five

because you asked.

1. I’ve always thought French is such a beautiful language. I wish I took it up when I was younger, but it didn’t make sense to start a third language when I haven’t even mastered my second one.

2. When I was fifteen, I decided that I was going to be a radio deejay. That sort of came true… I was a deejay at my school’s campus radio for a year.

3. I did small parts acting when I was younger. It’s a funny story about how I got the audition, which I will tell at another date. The roles I did include a gossipy nurse, a teenager trying to con a kid of his savings, and a bubble tea girl who got sacked because she didn’t want to wear a bikini. I guess it felt good to have fun and get paid at the same time.

4. I was such a gawky geek in secondary school. I had thick glasses and really short hair. I was such a boy. In fact, I think I acted exactly like one. Still do at times actually. Needless to say, no one paid me any attention.

5. I am really good with my hands… Should I leave that open to interpretation? Nah… it just means I like creating with my hands. I am (if you will) a crafty person.

6. I used to get really frustrated when some of my lousier photos got into explore and the ones that I put so much work into and enjoyed creating didn’t. It made me feel like a really lousy photographer. But I decided not to let explore take away all the fun in photography and just enjoy taking photos and viewing other people’s work. Yes, I became zen…

7. Amelia likes talking about herself in the third person at times. She also liberally uses the royal “we” as and when she likes it. No Queen of England can stop her.

8. Although I like portraying myself as an artist, a part of me still loves holding a meeting room full of people enrapt with attention and telling them that I know something more than they do. All this while pacing about in noisy stiletto heels.

9. This weekend, I reflected that cooking is a lot like editing photos. You really have to know when is the right moment to stop.

10. I know this is morbid, but I think about dying a lot. I think about the people that I will have to leave behind and get really sad. I’ve also decided that the two hymns to be sung at my funeral should be “This is My Fathers World” and “I Don’t Know About Tomorrow”.

Oh gosh… that was long.

#1. I love to buy Indian sweets.

Sweet shops have a hundred kinds to choose from. I choose by impulse because I have no idea what the flavor will be. Some are sugary, some barely sweet, some almond-flavored, and some flavors I can't identify. Some are chewy, or soft, or crunchy.

It's fun to sit down to dessert and be surprised.

10 Things:

Just before midnight yesterday as I went to let the cats in I noticed that the skies were extremely clear. Clearer than they have been with the last week of clouds and haze. I noticed the stars were much more visible and the light pollution was minimal. And then on the spur of the moment I packed my camera gear—and grabbed my film body to boot—got in the car and drove 20 minutes south of the city. I pulled onto a road I knew would give me an unobstructed view of the southern horizon. I spent just over an hour snapping happily away and just soaking in the night sky. What you see here is not as dramatic with the naked eye. That's what I love about film and digital sensors; they're so sensitive to light.

Spring time on Edward Street in Buffalo, NY.

I love this building. It's one of my favorites in the city!

The shade of pink in this pictures makes me smile every time I see it!
