because Robin got all up in my face (joking), here's my 16 things:

1. I am usually the quietest one in the room.

2. I'm pretty sure I am capable of invisibility. It takes a few times

meeting people before they remember me.

3. I'm more interested in other people and my surroundings than myself.

4. I love books and bookstores, but I don't read that much, anymore.

5. I've never been to New York City or L.A., and it doesn't bother me.

6. I am the youngest in my family. I have six sisters.

7. I never felt like an adult until my parents had passed away. Then

again, I may not still feel like an adult.

8. Maybe it has to do with still having two of my baby teeth. And, I

don't mean in a drawer somewhere.

9. I tend to be a pack rat. Not dirty, just cluttered. I'm working on

that.

10. I like technology, but I suspect it is feeding me ADD as a side

dish.

11. I've been told I'm smart. I think I'm just good at paying attention.

12. On a gig I had, I met the Dalai Lama. He seems like a nice guy.

13. I can get lost in the details, but I haven't run into the devil,

yet.

14. In the 4th grade, the lunch lady sealed my fate when she called me

a "smart ass". I've never looked back.

15. I am quite content not having all the answers. I'm pretty sure I

don't even know what the question was. Or that there was a test.

16. I found these sunglasses in a parking lot. They're not really "me".

Secrets.

1. I write a letter to my future children everyday because I haven't met them yet, but I love them already and I want them to know it.

2. Sometimes I'm so self-conscious that it doesn't even make sense. Like someone in the other room will laugh and I'll think they're laughing at me.

3. I don't know my multiplications and I don't know how to count coins that well. I usually just guess.

4. I always say things like "I'm awesome!" but I don't really think that I am. I just know that confidence is attractive, so I fake it.

5. I want to run away and never talk to any of my friends or family again. Not because I hate them. I just think it would be great to have a clean slate. I think it would be great to start all over.

6. One time I wrote 100 things I like about myself. They were all stupid.

7. I never judge anyone. I love everyone. Even if you hate me, I'd do anything for you.

8. I like boys, but I'm going to marry Marissa Sendejas.

9. I like ending things in odd numbers for no reason at all.

You know I'm extremely tired when:

1. I cry like a blubbering fool telling you how much I love you (sorry!)

2. I don't care what we watch on tv

3. I can't finish my beer (the most telling sign)

Today we held one of our (if not the) biggest event of the year at work. Everything went off without a hitch. I am both relieved and exhausted!

[151/366-1] I got these new shoes for $9.99 and am pretty excited about it. It gives me another option of shoes to wear to work besides my Nikes, [since we can't wear flip flops...major bummer]. They are very summer-y and they remind me of my best friend.

Fuji X100S - Day 1

I've never used an X100 but here are my initial thoughts:

- the colors are great...this is a jpeg (Provia) but I'm not a fan of the pro neg pre-sets

- the default NR (seen above) is way too strong, even at ISO 200...-2 looks better

- the auto focus seems adequate...not too slow but not blazing fast either

- still getting used to camera...and that's going to take a while

- the menu system, for a first time user like me, is rather awkward...even with new changes

1) I identify the principal of design of this image as being emphasis. This is because of the subject's hand being the non focal point and its background being the main focus.

2) I think the dramatic aspect of this photograph is the most striking, the model's pose.

Red Jacket Trail

1. I have always loved this bridge! The combination of the stone structured columns and the wooden timbers together create a feeling of “a step back in time.” The drive along Highway 66 is so calm and serene. It was always a favorite when the kids were young to meander our way back to St. James from a day in Mankato. On the hottest summer day, this drive would be at least 10 degrees cooler. I hadn’t traveled this way in years, since the construction of County Road 90. I recalled reading about the issues that occurred during this spring floods. It was reassuring to see that it hasn’t completely vanished.

2. I chose a vertical shot to place emphasis on the height of this amazing structure. The dark timbers with their deep shadowing in the foreground, balance the busy tree cluttered hillside that has similar coloring, not to mention the fabric from which the bracing was constructed! The dark tones highlight and contrast with the light color of the stone. I think it draws your eye through the photograph visually as well. The wooden system is imposing and yet seems rather inadequate in comparison with the massive stone that holds heavy steel.

3. Because of the colder temperature and time of daylight available, I chose to use my Program setting on my camera. I chose and ISO of 400 and an f-stop of 8.0. The shutter speed was 1/2500 because I chose continuous drive mode and I chose to let the camera evaluate the white balance of the shot. The shutter speed was chosen simply for the fact that, although it is a back road, it is highly traveled by vehicles that cruise at a speed greater than the suggested limit. Timing was everything so this was a “hurry up, get it done quick” shot…much to my dismay. My choice for the ISO was because of the bright but overcast sunlight. It was necessary in order to create the darker shadows in the foreground where the sunlight was not.

Overall, I am pleased with the composition of the work. This photo, if cropped and enhanced might very well be perfect…but then it would lose its authenticity. I like what the camera captured.

1. i got my battery grip. it's aftermarket, by Zeikos. i recommend it, if you're on a budget. works perfectly, has the rubberized grip and and is more than half the price of the factory-made BG-E7.

2. i fixed my 50mm 1.8! many people would have chucked the broken lens, since it's so cheap and easily replaced, but i'm a tinkerer and i got it working perfectly. i still want to upgrade sooner than later, but it was a nice little boon to an already great day. *score!*

My trip down to Cannery Row in Monterey, CA and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

I hope to put some individual stories with all the pictures I've dropped on here, but I'm done for the night. ^_^;

Write-up Release Candidate 1:

Mission to The Deep: Exploring the Ocean with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.

It's an interactive exhibit for the younger visitors, but I find it fun as well. There's a series of three activities where you can interact with the exploration probes to map the mountains on the ocean floor, identify various aquatic lifeforms passing by your probe, as well as identify various sea creatures while examining the carcass of a whale.

It's fun, and quite informative. (At least when the touch screen decides to cooperate. ^_^;)

Enjoy!

Two very separate points in this picture:

1) I took this picture standing close to the Anne Frank statue seen in the adjacent picture, which resulted in this poster for a Marilyn Monroe exhibit seem rather incongruous.

2) Across the canal are two of the clearest examples of the problems of houses that are hundreds of years old settling to very odd angles. Almost all of central Amsterdam was tidewater flats and many of the houses are built on wood pilings that were also constructed hundreds of years ago.

Some things in life seem so insignificant like they wouldn’t make a difference to anyone and so we leave them undone or unsaid. We hold back for fear of being seen as foolish. And yet I wonder how many opportunities to make an impact in someone’s life are missed. It’s like a penny walked by and left lying on the ground because we think it is of no worth. So next time you see a penny lying on the ground pick it up and think about the kind word or kind gesture you can pass on to someone who might just need a little encouragement to get them through the day.

Couple things about me:

1. I’m feeling very repetitive typing the above line day after day, though I do try and change it up a bit. Anyway something about me…I’m really tired of trying to think about things to write about me…hmm…though I like to have a neat house, house cleaning is not one of my favourite things to do, I’d rather be outside, though ever now and then I get in the mood to really clean, but that’s a rarity :)

2. I have three siblings, one older brother and two younger sisters.

1. I am about to graduate with my BA in Economics.

2. I am about to send off my application to graduate school for Environmental Economics.

3. Previously I was a chef.

4. I lived and worked in Iceland in 2001.

5. People that don't use their fork and knife when they eat drive me CRAZY.

6. I met my best friend because of dolls.

7. I am a certified first level Sommelier, though I think my actual certification may have lapsed.

8. I have visited or lived in every state in this country, save for five, Alaska, Hawaii, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas.

9. Because of working in the restaurant industry most of my life, I dislike most children and will NEVER have my own(but I like my brothers kid)

10. Dune is my favorite movie and book series and I have read all the books three times and seen the movie more that I can count.

11. I am left handed.

12. I make a mean hot toddy!

13. I just learned how to knit and wish I had more time to do it.

14. I speak Chinese, well as good as a 5 year old can!

15. I am pack rat.

16. I am not so secretly obsessed with the TV show "The First 48".

1. I chose this image for the 360 degree effect because of the water and clouds that take the majority of the image and creates a full and balanced circle.

2. i think the most visually striking aspect of this photograph are the clouds focused in the centre because the clouds look like a more peaceful inside/eye of a tornado.

This is a '97 former Washington DC Police fleet bike.

I've made some changes and modifications to serve my particular needs.

(1) I installed drag bars, after-market mirrors, and bar-end mirrors.

(2) I added a second set of stock turn signal lights to the front forks. They are wired to a toggle switch on the bars. I run them at night for greater visibility.

(3) The original 6" headlight was replaced with the newer model 7".

(4) The driver's seat was recovered with real leather. I like it, but I probably wouldn't do it again - too much work.

(5) Both sprockets and the chain were replaced (needed). I changed the rear sprocket ratio to give a bit more top speed. I don't miss the trade off in off-the-line torque.

(6) An additional set of after-market turn signal lights were installed at the rear. They are wired to the tag light and are on all the time. The stock signals droop a bit which makes the extra lights easier to be seen.

2. I hate my hair or my lack thereof.

3. I’m an incurable romantic even if my heart’s been broken three times.

4. I like to have the TV on for ambient noise while I surf the net.

6. I really love eating moon cake... it’s my comfort food.

7. My extensive collection of books is taking over our house.

8. If I were not a pastry chef I’d be surgeon but I’m afraid of blood.

9. I could spend all day in a bookstore.

10. I still cry every time I watch “The Notebook”.

11. I’m a big time procrastinator it drives my friends crazy.

12. I’ve never been confined in a hospital except when I had my baby.

13. I’m a jeans and button-down shirt kind of girl.

14. I get very intimidated by successful and wealthy people.

15. I’m mortally afraid of rats.

16. If money’s no object I’d be traveling extensively.

Happy New Year, everyone! :D

I've been tagged several times (most recently by the lovely Bek) and never got around to doing it...so, better late than never, here are my 10 random pointless facts:

1 - I don't really like the internet all that much. I am one of the only people I know who doesn't have a facebook, myspace, twitter, or any of that. If not for flickr, I probably wouldn't spend any time at all online outside of work.

2 - If I could only choose one food to eat for the rest of my life, it would be fresh watermelon, cut into chunks.

3 - I shattered my left ankle when I was 15. I had surgery, and it was reassembled with steel pins. They don't set off metal detectors, but I get weird pains when the weather changes sometimes.

4 - My old house is haunted. No joke. I have witnesses.

5 - I learned to read when I was 3.

6 - Nine Inch Nails is one of my favorite bands. I've seen them perform live 23 times in 8 states.

7 - I fail at all sports. I haven't been good at a sport since kickball in grade school.

8 - I have never in my life been afraid of the dark.

9 - I've never taken a photography class, but I would love to learn how to develop my own film.

10 - I am not a fan of extreme temperatures, either hot or cold. My ideal weather would be low 80's during the day and low 60's at night. I love thunderstorms and fog more than anything.
