Snow... once as common during southern scandinavian winters as sunshine in the summer, but increasingly becoming a rare phenomenon, only seen once or twice per season.

On this january day of 2014, the white stuff paid a visit in the shape of a near-blizzard, and for a short while brought back memories of old days.

Film from last Trip 1

I finished the digital frames, now comes the fun part: FILM.

I shot several rolls of both B/W and CN film. These are from Orwo NC500 color film. Under the cold, dull light it gives very „subtle“ negatives, I boosted them more than usual because of that. Basically I didn't really have a idea how to process, so just played and tried some things. More to come!

and there he is, stranger number 1. i walked past this bakery and fell in love with this scene. suddenly i was reminded of europe. just a man sitting outside enjoying his coffee. maybe thinking about life. maybe not thinking about life. that was the beauty of it. you didn't know what he was thinking, but you liked watching him just sit. the cool thing is, i didn't even know i was going to start this project until i saw this man...that's what's even stranger.

1. I chose this quote because when watching Stranger Things, it resonated with me. Although it's short, it holds a lot of truth. Friends are people who you can trust and will always have your back, and having friends lie to you feels pretty awful.

2. I picked this picture because a) it's of Eleven, the character who said the quote, and b) because this is the moment that she saves Mike from reaching the bottom of the cliff, proving that she's a good friend.

3. I think that the most striking part of the image is the text. It's bold red, contrasting with the background, and it's very strong and powerful, grabbing someone's attention easily.

1. i choose to flip this photo because it makes it look like i took a picture of a globe.

2. the most striking part of image is how i captured the globe look

I re-created my personal blog on blogspot.

These are highlights:

1) I will post my new work

2)I will post the news about my work

3) I will create initiatives photographers among us (if you follow me), which is a great way to meet and

face.

4) I will post photos of photographers that capture my attention, in order to advertise with us and compare the

our tastes.

5) We discuss meetings between us photographers (for those who live near Rome) so that we know and

snap together (I find it a great way to observe and understand how important it is for photography

each of us comparing our views and our knowledge in this field).

All for now, I'll add some other functions later.

Thank you for your attention and I hope you follow me.

(Sorry for my English)

Kisses from Rome.

Why?

1. This photo works for this assignment because it demonstrates shape using the negative space between the zucchini slices.

2. I chose to take this photo because we recently talked about negative space. To put that to use, I thought that it would be a good idea to include it in this project.

What?

1. I sliced three zucchini discs and cut a triangle out of them. I arranged them on top of a wooden chopping board so they look like they're making a triangle.

2. I used the principles contrast (the green zucchini against the darker brown wood), unity (the slices forming a triangle), and emphasis (the zucchini drawing eye towards the focal point, which is the negative space in the middle.

3. To make this photo better, I could probably add in more principles.

4. I feel like my biggest strength in this project is the use of negative space to create a sort of illusion.

I've had the Celtic Tote on my Ravelry queue for ages and finally decided to give it a go. Learnt a number of things:

1. I have real difficulty reading charts. I lose my place, forget what the symbols mean and eventually I had to write each line out and follow it that way!

2. Read ahead before you dive into the pattern, that way I would have avoided missing two cast offs at the bag edge that I later had to go back to and cut pieces out of and sew back together to fix!

3. Cables really aren't that difficult, just a bit fiddly sometimes.

I had some green wool that was a bit on the scratchy side for clothes and I thought a little on the thin side for the bag so holding two strands together I embarked on the adventure! It knit up pretty quickly too. I used some handspun dark brown wool to outline the cables and then set to and sewed the whole beastie together!

Much heartened by the magnificance of it all I then popped it into the wash and prayed it wouldn't come out the size of a coin purse!

Of course it didn't and once it was dry I raided my fabric stash, found a really nice bright olive cotton and hey presto! we have a lined felted bag with intricate (well, for me it was!) cables on both sides and the strap. I am brilliant!!

1. I like the window pouring light all onto the room.

I dislike how grainy some of the photo came out. I tried to cover it with photoshop in the darker area.

3. I would have liked to set a nicer stage for the next photo.

This shot was taken on my road trip on CA-1; I just loved those straight lines

1. I am thankful for the cool weekend so I could get bread made! I had been out of cinnamon-raisin bread for weeks and regular bread for about a week! Mmmm cinnamon-raisin bread! :)

2. I am thankful that there are finally new potatoes in at the local farmers market! They also have a lot of fresh local fruit like Saskatoon berries and strawberries! :)

3. I am thankful for the friendly young man downtown on Sunday that was out enjoying the rain too! :)

4. I am thankful for my sense of humour and proclivity for fun, silliness and playfulness! Good times! :)

5. I am thankful for the short but effective temper tantrum I had on Monday. I am certain years of built up rage must have come out of my mouth within a few seconds! Interestingly enough the things that I had waited four years for magically got done within a few minutes AND it only took one phone call! Oh yes! Life is much improved and I am looking forward to even more improvements! :) My older sister, who is Queen of the temper tantrum, would have been so proud! :P I cannot tell you how good it feels to finally get what I asked for and even better things came out of it.

6. I am thankful to have the opportunity to hang out with Hot Wheelz all afternoon! We met at Dutch Growers to look at flowers and learn the difference between bushes, shrubs and trees that send out suckers! :) They had a lily-a-polooza there! :) Then we foraged for food and went for a drive to see what is going on with sailing this year! Lots! :)

7. I am thankful I was there to photograph Michael for his first sail in a couple years!

8. I am thankful that I get to go sailing this coming week and the week after! I am very excited! I met some of the new sailing crew. They seem fun and I like how they treat the sailors so well! I assume they are awesome and so far so good! :)

9. I am thankful for digging my bouncy shoes out of the closet and going for a few bounces! My sides are sore in the place where you get sore when you have been laughing really hard for a really long time! What a delicious place to be sore! :)

10. Again, I am super-duper thankful for air conditioning! :)

11. I am thankful for maps because I can get lost without getting lost! :)

12. I am thankful that I am getting more outspoken because sometimes those difficult and awkward questions just need to be said aloud. Yes I do receive sideways looks and there are long, awkward silences but I care about the people I allow in my life and sometimes a friendly reminder is useful to their overall health and well being.

13. I am thankful that my shower was fixed better than it has ever been! I can get the soap out of my hair in seconds now! The temperature and pressure are even consistent! I barely even have to turn the water on for great water pressure! :)

14. I am thankful for the things that Irish has taught me about formwork because we (the fix-it person and I) used one of the techniques, adapted of course, to get my sink fixed! :)

Thank you for you. Have you noticed that the better it gets, the better it gets!? Have you noticed that if you take a few seconds to decide what you want before you do a thing that it goes much more pleasantly for you and you usually get what you wanted and sometimes even better? :) Have you noticed that the better you take care of you the better things go? Have you noticed that those that accuse you of being selfish are only doing so because you are doing what you want and not what they want? :) Take care of you and your loving ones! Have a super fun week and be more “selfish”! :)

1. I chose to have the cheesecake and leaves as the dominant subjects in this photo. The viewer’s eye is drawn to this area which then pulls you through the rest of the image. This was shot horizontally to give a calm and serene feel to the photo. The camera’s point of view was low in order to place the focus on the foreground of the photo and blur the background. The leaves and cup are placed on the rule of thirds.

2. A mouthwatering, colorful piece of cherry red cheesecake beckons your name that is garnished with greenery for added texture and contrast to my composition. The white ceramic cup and polished metal fork offers a nice texture difference from the cheesecake, also. The sharpness of the colors on the cheesecake and the softened background created the shallow depth of field that I was trying to achieve.

3. This picture was taken early evening, but was fairly dark outside so did not have the advantage of natural light from the window. I used lighting from my dining room which was diffused by shades to create a softer glow on my composition. If I was to do this photo over, I would have added more light to put a focus on the green leaves which would have offered an extra little zest to the image and my focal point. There was a green plant in the background, but that did not show up because of the lighting inadequacy.

4. My F stop was at 2.8 to create a shallow depth of field (small F stop = small depth of field). The ISO was 200 and my white balance was set at cloudy with focal length at 6 mm. These settings allowed me to focus sharply on the green leaves and cheesecake and blur the background. I manually focused to help achieve this shallow depth of field, also. The biggest technical challenge was that I did not have a tripod and could have added more lighting to create an even greater interest on the cheesecake and green leaves. It was a technical challenge to start using settings that I had never touched on my camera until now, so the time involved with this photo was intense.

5. In Chapter 2 of our weekly reading, Ansel Adams used the term previsualizing. The idea behind this is to plan ahead of time what you want to photograph and allow yourself the opportunity to nurture some creativity into your photo. It may not always turn out how you envision, but the idea is to have some sort of plan or a visual goal for what might inspire you the greatest. So, when the requirement for this photo was to include a coffee cup, I immediately knew my plan. Our local high school does a fundraiser every year for the music department. It is called “Ditties and Desserts” which features local youth singing, dancing and playing instruments to a gathering of family and friends. Their paid admission not only treats them to a variety of music by their talented loved ones, but also to a delectable piece of high calorie, beautiful desserts and coffee. I believe this photo tells a story of great music, great food and great conversation. This was my first experience with adjusting settings on my camera, and I spent an enormous amount of time perfecting this photo.

so pretty much everyone has problems with themselves.

About once every three weeks I have a marathon call or skype with my bff. Of late, they've been more hilarious than ever because we've been drinking and making immature hand gestures in order to take full advantage of the awsome-saucery of skyping. Here is my Rob describing lab processes in his high powered research career in molecular genetic marine bio. (whew! mouthful!) But it looks like he's crushing my head, don't it?

Caroline Fischer picture 1... I chose this picture because i think it is very pretty. Nothing else around the flower is bright but the flower. I also like how the grass is surronding it and there is just this big yellow thing in the middle of the grass.

MEXICO day 1

i took a trip to mexico, more specifically Guadalajara, to visit my mom for the first time since she moved out there. this is the terrace to her house. it's a really nice little place, just for her.

I should have bought this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gutted!

1) I'm taking this class because it looked like the most interesting choice for an art credit for an AA degree.

2) My goal is to have a job in the field of ecology or forestry.

3) In this class, I expect to learn more about how to create things using computers. I have used photoshop to edit pictures, but I've never actually created a picture.

Today was a big important day in the world.

I didn't really feel involved in it but...

well, maybe...

but I figure I should talk about it anyway.

Today, President Barack Obama was sworn into his second term in office. I say I don't feel involved because I wasn't able to watch it but this is the first year I voted in the presidential election and

well,

I voted for him.

There I said it.

Now I feel better.

I won't get political here, because whenever people do that I get bored real quick but if you are still following this nonsense that I post you must be interested.

(DAD- don't read this part, I don't want to get written out of the will)

I believe in a better America and if we have to pay a little more to create long term prosperity for everyone instead of short term mediocrity for the average man and huge billions for the 1%, I'm willing to do my part.

But that might all just be because I'm a broke optimistic 21 year old.

Done.

Back to what I ACTUALLY did today.

So instead of watching the inauguration, I went over to Bill Coopers house to do some last minute practicing for Shel's Shorts before it opens on Wednesday.

After a few hours there, I went over to K.C.'s house to practice some tongue and lip stretches.

Yes, I get college credit for learning how to stretch my face and body. I know. AWESOME!

Then, my next event got canceled so I went to Kroger, got chips and salsa, and napped.

Be super jealous.

Then back to tech rehearsal at Bay Street Theatre. I love doing my hangnail monologue. It is 10 friggin minutes long which is ridiculous but once I get started, it just flows out. I've never had an acting experience quite like it. It is amazing. I don't even know really how to describe it. You'll just have to come see it.

;)

#1- i like how the filter reminded me of watching horror movies with the green and the vignette representing how a person (in any horror movie) would see this on a random wall

#2- the filter added more creativity and individually onto the photo than before.

Apr 1 - I have to say, I was pretty surprised to see this guy over at Blair Pond today. After observing a large group of Hooded Mergansers at Clay Pit Pond, I assumed he would have joined them and been off for the year.

But, lo & behold, there he was today, doing his darndest to impress his lady friend (a female mallard). Apparently, when the Hooded Mergansers are trying to breed, the males go through an elaborate neck display. This photo captures part of that behavior.

1. I figured I needed a picture of me up on here so you all know what I look like :P

Ok, I just got tagged, so here's a picture taken today. I love the knarly texture of this tree, don't you?

Here are 10 things about me:

1. I love cycling. I ride the same type of bike that Lance rode a few years ago. I also have a commuter bike, a tandem, and a motorcycle.

2. I get totally obsessed with the things I love. My latest obsession is photography and flickr.

3. I'm an engineer, so I tend to overanalyze ...but if you've read any of my comments you knew that about me already ;^)

4. A previous obsession was watercolor. A lot of what I learned doing that applies to photography.

5. I'm always trying to learn and grow. It's never enough.

6. I think a lot about food, nutrition, and calories. I wish I didn't have to.

7. I love being outdoors, but I wish I had taken better care of my skin when I was growing up.

8. I have an irrational affection for nice outdoor clothes and electronic gizmos

9. I have two boys, one is at college, the other is on the autistic spectrum and lives at home.

10. My idea of a good time is getting together with friends and doing just about anything

That's my 10 things!

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERA

so 2 things happened: 1. I turned 50 years old; and 2. 3 days later I fractured my arm at the elbow riding my elliptigo bike (think an elliptical machine at the gym crossed with a push-bike, or a stand-up bike?)

The turning 50 got me a nice new camera a Canon 5D but I've barely had a chance to play what with the fractured arm and all

the elliptigo is kinda better designed for paved paths, I was riding (as I have done since I got it in 2018) on gravel, downhill, and in the shadowy bits I could tell (without actually being able to see) the heavy rains Spring last year had gouged canyons into the path like a dry river bank, so I felt that I needed to slow down, so I did, but it wasn't enough, front wheel went into a rut and headed left, I went right and down, didn't seem too bad, got up quickly, found a bit of bloody grazing on my right leg, and both palms, and yeh, my arm hurt a bit but felt it would come good - of course, I was about half way with no phone so had to ride all the way back home before getting my mum to take me to the docs, who referred me to the closest x-ray (about 1/2 hr drive away) who didn't have a specialist on, so around the corner to a different imaging place who sent me back to the ED because the x-ray revealed a fracture in the arm/elbow, then a cast and home again finally.

I've been bored and frustrated for this past week basically. Early in the week it was nice weather and I'd intended to get a few last things done left over from my birthday leave, couldn't do it, then add on an extra weeks personal leave and still got nothing done.

Tonight, feeling like I can do a bit more, the cast comes off tomorrow, a re-visit to the doc and maybe physio to see what and how much of what I can do, like drive to work?

I've managed to get the boys out on their separate walks most days, but the camera has had to stay home. I did get a couple of passable mobile pics just in case, but hate to do that with my new 5D doing nothing, so made an effort yesterday afternoon and posed the boys for their pics. So although this pic is very similar to one of him a month ago I'm happy with it

Saxon had to go to the vet too this week, to re-check how his arthritis in his spine is going, he's been on Beranza, but with his recent flare-up I wondered if it was actually working, he's still on anti-inflammatories and they do well, and he's wearing booties on his rear feet to stop him scraping on the pavement on walks - he kept coming home with bloody toe-nails worn beyond the quick, ouch! But the booties are great, and he wears them well :-)

Here's to being 50 hahaha

There's a few thing i can say about this photo. 1) i'm addicted to buying clothes. 2) I love receiving packages in the mail. and 3) i'm broke!!!

so today when i got home from class, i found a package at my front door with my name on it! Even though i already knew what it was i was SUPER stoked. This is my new crooks and castles hat :) I was going to buy another one i really liked butttt i have no money. and it sucks. so this is going to be my last apparel related purchase for a bit...i HATE college because it sucks the money out of me and I don't have rich relatives of any sort to help me pay for that shizz.

I guess I've joined the broke college kid club haha but oh well, life isn't fun without a struggle.
