“Hyperrealist Painting by (?) about Hong Kong’s life” / Art Basel Hong Kong 2013 / SML.20130523.6D.13825
The first thing I thought of when I saw this painting was the special effects for texting seen at the UK british television series Sherlock, where each SMS typography was juxtaposed directly on the frame.
I have no idea who painted this as there are no visible titles anywhere. It is also closed to impossible to photograph it because it was situated at some really bizarre alley at the back of the gallery.
I do recognise the street though—it seems to be somewhere near Lan Kwai Fong in Hong Kong. The text appears to be mostly nonsensical Cantonese advertising, and I think that it is a commentary on the information-overload age that we are in, always surrounding us — posters, advertising, marketing messages everywhere but for the city dweller it is just a normal day as usual.
If you know the name of the artist please comment below. SML Thank You in advance!
