Great spotted woodpecker (m) - Dendrocopos major
Late sunny afternoon at Tittesworth Reservoir, Staffordshire and watching a selection of smaller birds by the reservoir when this lovely Great spotted woodpecker (m) flew in to feed on the peanuts. He tucked his head inside and feasted on the peanuts...evidence on his beak!
Walking back to our car and hubby spotted a Kestrel sitting on the telegraph wires, so 'snapped' that too :))

We are having a nice wet spring this year, and that translates to snow in the mountains. We went and shot Mt. Hood in the lower light, it had a little pink in the clouds and the sun highlighted the top of the mountain.
Mount Hood is located approximately 90 minutes outside of Portland on the border between Clackamas and Hood River counties. Mount Hood stands at 11,239 feet (3,425 meters). It is the highest point and mountain peak in the state of Oregon, and the second most climbed mountain in the world (second only to Japan’s holy Mt. Fujiyama).
We literally walked out of Timberline Lodge, at Mt Hood, up a small slope and got this great vantage point shot.

Cattleya lawrenceana is an epiphytic species with a lush plant, claviculated pseudobulbs of 20 centimeters in height and bearing a leaf of 20 centimeters in length, oblong-lanceolate, thick and with a crease in the central part. Flowers 12 centimeters long, with narrow petals and sepals, pink to violet-magenta. Pointed lip, purplish-purple. It comes from Serra da Neblina, state of Roraima, Brazil. It blooms in late fall or winter.
The cattleya orchid normally blooms only once a year and its flowers last an average of 10 to 30 days. But if it is well cared for and fertilized correctly, it may have a second flowering in some species.
Sumakh ("vinegar tree")
This small tree or tall shrub has an exotic appearance and looks attractive all year round. Most representatives of the Sumac genus grow in warmer climates and the only representative that has acclimatized in the middle zone is the deer-horned sumac (Rhus typhina).
Why autumn leaves are so diverse and differ in many shades, not everyone knows. Most of the year, pigments are masked by a large amount of green chlorophyll. But in autumn, due to a decrease in the length of daylight hours and a decrease in temperature, active metabolic processes in the leaves stop, nutrients move from the foliage to the branches, trunk and root system, chlorophyll breaks down. Pigments of yellow and orange become visible, which gives the leaves their autumn splendor.
Unfortunately, we cannot independently influence the brightness of the color of the leaves, and in gloomy rainy weather sometimes we are left without a golden autumn parade. The only thing that can be done is to plant plants with decorative fall foliage in the sunniest places, since in partial shade the bright color may not appear or be less intense.

The small village of Phikardou which I first visited in the summer of 1976, population then 3-4 old people. I chanced upon it when I was researching for my thesis on the Vernacular Architecture of Cyprus.
It has now become a must place to visit and even boasts a restaurant serving authentic local dishes. It's good to note that most of the 30 or so houses have since been refurbished even if it's only for weekend visits by owners that work further down in the city.
The floodlight, bottom left is pointed towards the church belltower and the galvamized pipes offer support to the overhead electrical mains cables.

The bridge was built by The City of Calgary to connect the southern Bow River pathway and Downtown Calgary with the northern Bow River pathway and the community of Sunnyside. This connection was designed to accommodate the increasing number of people commuting to and from work and those utilizing Calgary's pathways.
I was fascinated by the Peace Bridge and because my hotel was right behind the Shaw building I could go there anytime I wanted...:-))

On the path from le Plan de l'Aiguille to Montenvers, there is a bifurcation to the right leading to le Signal Forbes, which offers an exceptional point of view on la Mer de Glace. After extensive restoration, the 1911 Historic City Hall opened its doors as the City of Lake Charles' public art gallery and cultural facility in 2004. Since that time, Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center has showcased numerous traveling exhibitions from around the world, as well as regional and local artists. The Historic City Hall Arts & Cultural Center (HCH A&C Center) is City-owned-and-operated, under the direction of the Cultural Affairs Department. The beautiful historic building features three floors of gallery space, a clock tower, and, added in 2006, a landscaped brick courtyard.
Thankfully, this year I was given permission to photograph in the snowdrop meadow near me.
