HSL-Zuid (Dutch: Hogesnelheidslijn Zuid, English: High-Speed Line South), is a 125 km-long high-speed railway line between the Netherlands and Belgium. Together with the Belgian HSL 4 it forms the Schiphol - Antwerp High-Speed Line. Originally scheduled to be in service by 2007, the first public operations began on September 7, 2009, after a ceremony on September 6.[1]

The line is used by Thalys Amsterdam - Paris and Fyra Amsterdam - Breda services. At the pictured spot there are only Thalys trains at the moment.

Limited Fyra service between Amsterdam and Rotterdam began with conventional carriages and rented TRAXX locomotives, but it is hoped that from December 2010 the Fyra service will employ V250 trains and will be extended to The Hague, Breda, Antwerp and Brussels. Delivery of the V250 by its maker AnsaldoBreda has been delayed several times. Fyra is a service of NS Hispeed, a subsidiary of Nederlandse Spoorwegen and KLM, and NMBS.

On 13 December 2009, Thalys began services from Amsterdam to Paris and Brussels on the HSL-Zuid.

Economic powerhouse Rotterdam needs extra space for the expansion of its harbour activities. After some debate this led to the decision to start the work on Maasvlakte 2 , which's all about creating new land . On a patch of this (form: an peninsula) concrete foundations for the new container harbour are being prepared.

Klinkerland originally drained freely through lock passage on the Grevelingen. A long suction channel ran from the lock through the buntings to the open water. * In 1821 Klinkerland and Battenoord signed an agreement * which meant that Battenoord would build and maintain a lock in the Battenoord dike. The circumstances between the Klinkerland lock and the new lock would also be widened, deepened and maintained by Battenoord. In addition, Battenoord paid fl. 0.45 per meter for the right to water out over Klinkerland. The polders have since formed a water management unit. The suction channel of the Klinkerland polder developed into a harbor, the harbor of Klinkerland, also known as the harbor of Battenoord. The port is owned by the estate of Greyoord but is managed and maintained by the polder Klinkerland. * The harbor was kept at depth by a blowdown. * The polder received a patent in 1771 to levy harbor quay charges. * Feathers were also created on Bruinisse, Zijpe and St. Annaland. * The low grasslands along the banks of the Paardegat were undercut by a small water mill. In 1912 * an agreement was concluded on this subject, in which the polder took on the sight of establishing a wind auger motor. The owners would then pay the full polder charges. In 1933 it was decided to build an electric pumping station. The polders then requested to be merged into an administrative polder in order to obtain a correct arrangement of the participation.

This concrete viaduct was constructed at the turn of the century by the then new Zuid-Holland electric railway company (ZHESM) for a rail link between Hofplein and Scheveningen. Almost two kilometres long, it is one of the first large concrete structures in the Netherlands. The enterprise specially set up to construct it would later become the HBG construction company. The viaduct consists of 189 arches, whose openings were colonized by warehouses, shops and companies. In 1918, J.J.P. Oud as City Architect drew up a plan to erect temporary housing between the arches. Hofplein station, designed by J.P. Stok, perished during the wartime bombing raid and since then its successor designed by Van Ravesteyn has been demolished. The arrival of Randstadrail has made the Hofplein Viaduct redundant.

The Flower Bulb Inspection Service (BKD) was established in 1923. Growers of flower bulbs are required to register with the BKD. The service inspects flower bulbs for both quality and quarantine infestations. In addition to quality inspections, the BKD carries out import and export inspections for non-EU countries and laboratory research.

Het gezin / the family
