Some houses for the last guests of the summer season, and some bundled together to be put in storage.
Een beer is een gemetselde dam in een vestinggracht. Deze moest het water in de gracht scheiden van het zoute water of het sterk stromende water van een grote waterpartij: zee, meer of rivier, waar de vesting aan kan liggen.
De beer werd voorzien van een spitse rand, de zogenaamde ezelsrug, met daarop monniken of poppen om het oversteken van de gracht praktisch onmogelijk te maken. (Bron: Wikipedia)

Vanaf 1795 waren Franse troepen gelegerd in grote delen van Nederland. In 1809 versterkten de Fransen hun kustverdediging, nadat de Engelsen tijdens de Walcherenexpeditie waren binnengevallen. In het kader hiervan werden aan weerszijden van het Hellegat twee forten gebouwd: Fort Duquesne bij Ooltgensplaat en Fort De Ruijter bij Willemstad. Het eerste fort was genoemd naar Abraham Duquesne, de Franse admiraal die tegenover Michiel de Ruyter stond in de Slag bij Agosta (1676). De twee forten moesten voorkomen dat vijandelijke schepen vanaf het Volkerak naar het Hollandsch Diep voeren.

From 1795 French troops were stationed in large parts of the Netherlands. In 1809 the French strengthened their coastal defenses after the British had invaded during the Walcheren Expedition. In the context of these were built on either side of the Hellegat two forts: Fort Duquesne in Ooltgensplaat and Fort De Ruijter in Willemstad. The first fort was named for Abraham Duquesne, the French admiral who compared Michiel de Ruyter was in the Battle of Augusta (1676). The two forts were to prevent enemy ships from the Volkerak to the Hollands Diep.

A bulb field is a field on which bulbous plants (initially only tulips ) are grown commercially. In the fall, the bulbs are planted again, after which straw is spread and run on the land in order to protect the bulbs from frost. After the bulbs have blossomed in the spring, the (usually virus-sick) bulbs and wandering (of other varieties) are selected and removed. Although it takes energy to flower, it is necessary to find the diseased bulbs. Then the bulbs are mechanically headed . The bulbs are then harvested and exported all over the world, where the buyers plant them in their own garden .

Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) en Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) zijn aanduidingen voor een speciaal soort schip dat wordt gebruikt om aardolie en -gas op te slaan en eventueel te behandelen.
Het schip wordt hier bij de 'Scheidingsdam' door 4 sleepboten op zijn plaats gehouden alvorens het kan worden versleept naar de Dockwise Vanguard.

The Sand Motor is an innovative method for coastal protection. The Sand Motor (also known as Sand Engine) is a huge volume of sand that has been applied along the coast of Zuid-Holland at Ter Heijde in 2011. Wind, waves and currents will spread the sand naturally along the coast of Zuid-Holland. This is called ‘Building with Nature’. The Sand Motor will gradually change in shape and will eventually befully incorporated into the dunes and the beach. The coast will be broader and safer.
Between March 2011 and October 2011, Rijkswaterstaat and the provincial authority of Zuid-Holland created the hook-shaped peninsula. It extends 1 km into the sea and is 2 km wide where it joins the shore. Trailing suction hopper dredgers picked up the sand ten kilometres off the coast and took it to the right place. There are also two offshore replenishment locations alongside the peninsula. The construction of the Sand Motor was completed in November 2011. Now, the forces of nature will take over and spread the sand along the shore, thereby reinforcing the coastline and creating a dynamic area for nature and recreational purposes.

Fort Duquesne was een aarden gebastioneerd fort met op de centrale binnenplaats een gemetselde Tour-modèle. De toren heeft drie bouwlagen, is geheel gemetseld van baksteen en de ruimten zijn voorzien van gemetselde gewelven. Hij heeft een plat dak vanwege de functie als uitkijk- en geschuttoren. De gevels zijn voorzien van meerdere geschutsopeningen. Op 4 december 1813 overrompelden Nederlandse militairen de zwakke Franse bezettingen en namen het fort in bezit. De naam werd gewijzigd in Fort Prins Frederik.

Fort Duquesne was a bastioned earthen fort overlooking the central courtyard a masonry Tour modèle. The tower has three floors, is entirely built of brick and the rooms are equipped with masonry vaults. He has a flat roof because of its function as observation and turret. The facades are provided with several artillery openings. On 4 December 1813 Dutch troops overran the weak French garrisons and took the fort in possession. The name was changed to Fort Prince Frederik.
Geschiedenis
Gebouwd in 1794 aan de Westvest in opdracht van een aantal branders als stenen stellingmolen. In 1928 koopt Vereniging De Hollandsche Molen voor zijn behoud de molen, die toen in zeer matige bouwkundige staat was.
1938 - door brand beschadigd maar weer hersteld;
1972 - gerestaureerd;
1982 - sinds 27 februari is de gemeente Schiedam eigenaar van de molen, daarvoor was Vereniging De Hollandsche Molen eigenaar;
1996 - nacht 13 op 14 februari in brand gevlogen;
1996 - met herstel begonnen;
1999 - 29 mei, opnieuw als draaivaardige molen in gebruik genomen;
2002 - 5 april, maalvaardige oplevering;
2002 - 11 mei, opening molenwinkel.

Economic powerhouse Rotterdam needs extra space for the expansion of its harbour activities. After some debate this led to the decision to start the work on de Tweede Maasvlakte , which's all about creating new land .

Het was de bedoeling dat de kustlijn van de Noordzee, het Kanaal en de Atlantische Oceaan verdedigd werd door 15.000 bunkers. Een klus waarmee 450.000 arbeiders gemoeid waren, 11 miljoen ton beton en 1 miljoen ton staal voor de bewapening van het beton. In tegenstelling tot wat de Duitse propaganda te kennen geeft, is de ‘Muur’ geen ononderbroken hinderlaag. De Muur bestaat in grote lijnen uit vier linies: forten, batterijen met kustgeschut, bunkers bij de stranden en hinderlagen op de stranden of in het achterland.

It was intended that the coastline of the North Sea, the Channel and the Atlantic Ocean was defended by 15,000 bunkers. A job that 450,000 workers were involved, 11 million tonnes of concrete and 1 million tons of steel for the reinforcement of concrete. Contrary to know the German propaganda shows, the 'Wall' no continuous ambush. The Wall consists largely of four lines: forts, batteries of coastal artillery bunkers to beaches and ambushes on the beaches or in the hinterland.

Goeree-Overflakkee is known for its beautiful colorful tulip fields. It happens that people walk through the crops and pick tulips. Since this leads to irreparable damage to the flower bulb, this is not permitted. Walking along the fields is allowed. “We want to invite everyone to enjoy the view of the tulip fields, but also ask them not to go into the crops,” asks Jacob Jan Dogterom of Dogterom Flowerbulbs. “In this way, together we ensure a beautifully colorful Goeree-Overflakkee and we can continue to enjoy our pride together.”
