When EV ‘retrofit’ conversions were authorised in France, in 2020, Renault became interested and partnered with R-Fit, a pioneer in the field, to develop kits to convert an ICE model into an electric car. The kits were sold by the Méhari Club de Cassis and were subsequently homologated for use on the road. One of them was for the Renault 5: developing 30bhp and keeping the original gearbox, it offered a range of 80km.
In 2022, Renault seized a double opportunity – on the one hand, its new partnership with the Roland Garros tennis tournament, and on the other, the 50th anniversary of the Renault 5 – to convert a few R5 GTLs into electric cars for use as official shuttles to transport players and members of the organising staff. The interior design was entrusted to Renault Design, who selected fabrics and materials regardless of cost.
This five-door example, finished in an extremely stylish dark blue, has a unique orange trim for the ‘petal’ seats, carpets, door cards and even the sun visors, with a dark blue headlining with a black pattern. An elegant multi-coloured stripe runs along the top of the door cards. Externally, the body carries all the official markings of the tournament, while under the bonnet sits a working electric motor, with a badge on top marked ‘Renault 5, 50’. This is a great opportunity to acquire a version of the Renault 5 which is rare, exclusive and attractive, and, moreover, homologated for use on the road.

There can be few four-wheeled motor vehicles simpler than the Red Bug. A small, two-seater, wooden buckboard, the Red Bug was produced by the A O Smith Company of Milwaukee, USA, commencing in 1914. Originally called the 'Flyer', the Red Bug, or Auto Red Bug, was powered by an integral motor to start with, driving a fifth wheel. Five years later Smith sold the manufacturing rights to Briggs & Stratton, and they then passed (in 1924) to the Majestic Engineering & Manufacturing Company, later known as the Automotive Electric Service Company of North Bergen, New Jersey and subsequently as Automotive Standards. Various power units were used in the Red Bug over the years, including the Smith Motor Wheel, a 12-volt electric starter motor, and a Cushman petrol engine. In 1930 it was reported that the Indian Motorcycle Company would be taking over its manufacture, but little is known of the Red Bug after this date.
The vendor advises us that this electrically powered Red Bug was restored to original condition in 2015, the electrics and battery being renewed and the motor overhauled by a specialist.

electric Morgan Plus E
Morgan has officially unveiled the Plus E concept at the Geneva Motor Show but we saw it hidden away in the corner at the factory.
Designed to gauge consumer interest, the prototype is based on the Plus 8 but features a Zytek electric motor and a lithium-ion battery which enables it to travel up to 120 miles (193 km) on a single charge.
All told, the motor develops 160 bhp (120 kW / 162 PS) and 380 Nm (280 lb/ft) of torque. It is connected to a five-speed manual transmission which allows the 1,250 kg (2,756 lbs) roadster to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.0 seconds and hit a top speed of 115 mph (185 km/h).
According to Morgan's operations director Steve Morris, "We wanted to see how much fun you can have in an electric sports car, so we have built one to help us find out. The Plus E combines Morgan's traditional look with high-technology construction and a powertrain that delivers substantial torque instantly at any speed. With the manual gearbox to increase both touring range and driver involvement, it will be a fantastic car to drive."

Finished installing 4ea 12 volt batteries, wired in series for a 48vdc nominal traction pack.
Found this formula for calculating AH of batteries that only have a CCA rating. CCA / 20 = Ah
Therefore this pack has the following energy capacity:
350 CA / 20 = 17.5 Ah
17.5 Ah x 48vdc = 840 Wh
840 Wh / 2 = 420 usable Wh @ 50% SOC
By the way, It's so cool to be able to just turn on the motor, full voltage, and not worry about it overspinning. This special wound motor is just awesome!

No és una manifestació ni una organització, només persones, homes o dones, joves o gent gran anat en bicicleta. Tampoc és una cursa. És una manera d’establir un espai públic on les persones puguin reunir-se, i coneixe’s.
És reclamar aquell espai a la calçada que el cotxe ha usurpat en aquests anys.
