This was taken on Blackfriars bridge - you can see Waterloo bridge in the background. I love a good panning shot and this seemed to be an ideal location to have a go with a clear line of sight to the cyclists as they sped across with the cityscape behind them. Canon EOS 6D & EF 28-80mm f/2.8-4.0L

On a bustling day in Dublin City Centre, a sleek Wrightbus Streetdeck double-decker bus navigates through D'Olier Street, proudly displaying its Route 9 destination sign: "Limekiln Avenue via City Centre." This particular bus, part of Dublin Bus's fleet, stands out as it's not the usual model assigned to this route, which typically sees older bus types. The Wrightbus Streetdeck, a modern marvel in public transportation, is a fully electric vehicle, contributing to Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann's commitment to sustainability. With zero-emission technology, this bus aligns with Ireland's broader environmental goals, reducing the carbon footprint of urban transport while offering a quieter, smoother ride for passengers. The Streetdeck's advanced battery system allows it to cover extensive routes without the need for frequent recharging, making it a reliable choice for busy city operations.

The Dublin Bus Route 9, connecting Charlestown in the north of the city to Limekiln Avenue in the south, is a vital artery for commuters traveling through the heart of Dublin. Passing through key landmarks like D'Olier Street, the route offers easy access to the city centre's commercial and cultural hubs, including Trinity College and the bustling shopping areas of Grafton Street. Operating with a frequency of approximately 15-20 minutes during peak hours, the service ensures that passengers can travel conveniently throughout the day. The first bus typically departs Charlestown around 5:30 AM, with the last service leaving the city centre close to 11:30 PM, catering to both early risers and late-night travelers. This reliable timetable, combined with the eco-friendly Wrightbus Streetdeck, makes Route 9 an essential and sustainable link for Dubliners navigating the vibrant capital.

A wider view of the green area and trees outside of the buildings. I popped into the Dandenong Library yesterday to see if the big Santa on his reindeer was replicated in Harmony Square outside the library/council building. It only had a large Christmas Tree.

Despite the bold message of being zero emissions, VWH2390 is a hybrid and is therefore almost zero emission!

Even though many modifications were made as part of it's conversion from CMQ 9024 to a Hydrogen-Fuel Cell locomotive, CP 1001 still retains many of it's former locomotive lines. This includes it's original wide-nose cab with the distinctive draper-taper.

SG71 MYF is a Yutong E12 new to McGill’s in September 2021 as their number 5000.

It is seen here in Glasgow whilst working service 26 to Nethercraigs and is one of 68 electric buses expected this year for McGill's comprising 55 Yutong E12's, 1 Alexander Dennis Enviro200EV and 12 Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV's, the latter for its Xplore Dundee fleet.

In 2021 or so, startup vehicle OEM Arrival appeared on the scene with grand plans for battery-electric buses and vans. Its products would be revolutionary and bear no resemblance to those built by existing manufacturers, Arrival said. That indeed proved to be the case, as can be seen by an example of its bus range here.

Further positivity came with news that First Bus was planning to place an order for no fewer than 193 Arrival products for fleets in England as part of its involvement in successful Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas bids. Quite a number of Arrival buses were built, but only one was registered for demonstration purposes as EV22 BUS. The others were used as test vehicles at the MIRA and Idiada centres.

History now shows that Arrival's efforts were a step too far. Later on in 2022 it first announced that the bus project was to be 'paused', before subsequently revealing that its focus was being shifted to vans in North America. First Bus instead placed its order with Wrightbus.

It thus seems that the bus is dead in the water. As a vehicle it was indeed revolutionary, although perhaps a bit too much so for what is generally still a conservative market in the UK. Some elements of it were indicative of a gross lack of on-the-ground knowledge, such as the door arrangement as visible; how is it to open if the driver has stopped without straightening the front wheels? Nonetheless, an interesting - if very brief - part of the UK bus industry's history.

📍 Dorking Station

Metrolink Stadler FLIRT H2 #3501, the first hydrogen/battery powered train in the United States, sits at the platform at the San Bernardino - Downtown Metrolink station just minutes before departing on its first revenue run as train 3860. After years of development and testing, the 'ZEMU' (Zero Emissions Multiple Unit), as it's affectionately known, is finally ready for service, where it will run between San Bernardino and Redlands on the Arrow corridor. The first train was at capacity, with a mix of project staff, railfans, and regular riders who happened to find themselves on this memorable inaugural run.

I have finally managed to grab some decent shots of an experimental electric-drive battery powered carbon fibre bus that lives local to me.

RX15HSU is a 'Bristol Superlight' built by the Frazer-Nash Research company based in Farnborough, Hants. The bus was first registered on 28/08/2015 and I've been after a decent shot of it ever since!

Their concept bus is kitted out to B27D layout and weighs in at just 3.5 tonnes, its revenue weight listed as 4840kg. It carries a 1.0L engine which is used to recharge the lithium batteries and as such the bus is marketed as ultra low emission / zero emission capable.

I grabbed some shots of the bus when it was out on a demonstration run on 02/03/2017.
