It was a pure moment of reflection into the future of mobility as the emergence of electrification conversations continue to take precedence in an era of global warming and planetary resource depletion. Helping spearhead that charge is the luxury and performance-oriented EV startup Lucid Motors, with headquarters in Newark, CA, and a 500-acre plant in Arizona.
This past weekend I had a chance to test drive the Lucid Air Dream Launch Edition and experience the new Lucid Studio at Tysons Corner Center outside of the DC-metro area. It features a 4K Virtual Reality Experience Configurator for customers to personalize their vehicle from exterior hues to interior material selections, all inspired by and named after specific cities in California such as Santa Monica, Santa Cruz, and Tahoe.
I had the pleasure of a spirited test drive around Fairfax County in a 2022 Eureka Gold Lucid Air Dream Edition. Sorry, all 520 units have been claimed by forward thinkers! Expect a starting price of $169,900 and a blazing fast 2.42 second 0 to 60 mph time. The vehicle's design is exquisite and its performance is magnificent. Depending on packaging, the top output is an astonishing 1,111-horsepower and 520 miles of range with 19” wheels. Lucid was going for efficiency during the product planning process, but performance became the byproduct.
In addition to the Dream Edition, the Lucid lineup includes the $77,400 ($69,900 with available federal tax credit) Lucid Air Pure, the $95,000 Lucid Air Touring, and the $139,000 Lucid Air Grand Touring.

Well, the engineers at SRT have figured out how to maintain the performance traits of the electrified Daytona SRT Concept, demonstrated at the 2022 LA Auto Show. Dubbed, Fraztonic Chambered Exhaust, the digitized growl is mighty and lit up the entire convention center hall. Dodge uses an amplifier at the rear to empower exhaust notes akin to the traditional SRT Hellcat.

The Mercedes-Benz eCitaro is making strong headway in the market for battery-electric buses in its home market of Germany. Among the cities to operate it is Aachen in the far west of the country. A reasonable number of the articulated eCitaro G are in the ASEAG fleet, most of which carry standard livery. At least two have received separate but highly distinctive schemes to promote their zero-emission nature, although that applied to bus 497 as seen here could pass as the camouflage sometimes used by manufacturers to disguise a vehicle under test. Here it is operating a journey on route 3B outside Aachen Haptbahnhof on a Sunday afternoon.
Greater Manchester is making strong progress towards complete reregulation of its bus network, with the first two tranches of that already rolled out and the third to follow in early 2025. That final round is perhaps the most notable in that it will see Metroline enter the conurbation's bus market - with a need to resource a number of large depots effectively from scratch. That is unlike those operators that won work in the first and second phases, all of which were incumbent.
Andy Burnham's very visible delight in taking back control from nasty private operators, as he is wont to view it, has since opened floodgates elsewhere. Bus services will also be franchised in the Liverpool City Region and West Yorkshire. The Welsh government continues to promise the same, although the question of how it will pay for reregulation remains unanswered. Greater Glasgow is equally set to go down the franchising route in the longer-term, albeit with the same ponderable hanging over its desires as Wales.
Meanwhile, a Labour government will promote franchising across all of England outside London, although written in easily-deciphered code around that policy is a message that local authorities will need to find the money for such a process themselves. Indeed, the dam has now broken, and while franchising is certainly not to the taste of all bus operators, it is very clear that some have only themselves to blame for its advancement. Others, in contrast, actively encourage reregulation, seeing it as an obvious means to build relatively risk-free market share. SME bus companies view the process as a hiding to nothing and one that will decimate their presence in the local service landscape, as has already been seen in Greater Manchester.
Transport for Greater Manchester wasted little time in adding zero-emission buses to the first two tranches of franchising in that area. Here is Stagecoach Manchester 84225 (LF24 YZZ), a battery-electric BYD Alexander Dennis Enviro400EV arriving in the city centre on an 83 journey.

Renault exported many Dauphines to the USA where they met with great, but all too brief, success. Their modern light monocoque construction interested the Eureka Williams Co. manufacturer of electric engines, which launched a design study called Henney Kilowatt. It never reached full production as components were too expensive.

Révolutionnaire selon la publicité de Jacques Séguela, l’AX aurait pu l’être encore plus avec une motorisation électrique. Citroën y travaillait déjà ardemment, on l’a vu avec le concept Citela. Citroën s’essaya donc naturellement sur l’AX au travers de cette ma-quette d’un beau rouge et d’une finition intérieure spécifique. Ce modèle reflète une étape importante dans l’histoire de Citroën, voire même par conséquent de l’automobile. C’est en effet la première représentation d’une Citroën électrique de série pour adultes, puisqu’André Citroën lui-même avait choisi ce type de motorisation pour ces jouets d’enfant. Rappelez-vous son objectif était que chaque enfant venant au monde puisse avoir comme premiers mots « Maman, Papa, Citroën ». Cette auto est une belle maquette de présentation, sans batterie.

Electrified horses gallop fast and silent when they’re running, ripping 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 secs, they don’t even hear me when I’m coming.
Long, low, and wide, a storm is on the way. It won’t make a sound, but you’ll immediately feel the wrath of the 2022 Audi RS e-tron GT when you hit it. Performance resonates from 590-horsepower (637 in Boost Mode), 612 lb-ft of torque, quattro AWD, and an adaptive air suspension. A carbon-fiber roof, carbon-fiber mirrors, a carbon-fiber rear diffuser, and front air inlets add to the magnetism of our Tango Red Metallic high-performance electric Gran Turismo. Pricing starts at $99,900 for the e-Tron GT and $139,900 for the RS e-Tron GT. A potential federal tax credit equals $7,500.

The SP7 is one of the 3 prototypes built by hand by Torsten Robbens and the Saroléa team in Belgium. It has been designed to perform at the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy (TT).
Saroléa Racing competed at the TT Zero for the first time in 2014. In 2017, the SP7 has evolved considerably and many innovations have taken place. Much work has been done on the dyno and the bike has been subjected to a rigorous testing program - on and off track.
As in 2016, Yorkshireman Dean Harrison was at the controls of the SP7 round the demanding TT course. Saroléa narrowly missed the podium, but finished a healthy 4th, with a time of 173,9 km/h.

Thoughts on the all-electric VW ID. Buzz touring van? Pretty cool. But don't expect an arrival anytime this year in the US. They are forecasting 2024 for the rear-wheel drive, 5-passenger van.
