Early battery-electric buses in Scotland were five Volvo 7900 Electric examples with Stagecoach West Scotland, which as can be seen if this pictures is zoomed in were funded by SP Energy Networks. Unlike other electric buses in the country since, these are opportunity charged, for which an inverted pantograph exists in Kilmarnock bus station.
Such a manner of replenishment has died away as battery technology and energy efficiency has advanced even over just a few years, but the 7900 Electric examples are highly unusual in a Stagecoach fleet. The model has now been superseded in the UK by the BZL platform. Here 76005 (SJ21 NFH) is seen adjacent to Kilmarnock bus station while working a 1 to Priestland.

Clipper is the result of a study in style and engineering focusing on tomorrow’s world and cities: this sporty MPV has a technological spirit and a green heart.
Thanks to the versatile MQB modular platform developed by Volkswagen Group, it can accommodate up to 6 people, seated in three rows of two seats; it features an electric powertrain comprising two 110 kW motors, housed one up front and one at the back, guaranteeing a range of 540 km. It has four-wheel drive with fully independent wheels. The battery packs are housed in the floor, specially designed to afford maximum protection against accidental impact from the road while driving.
The design for the passenger compartment’s outfit of Clipper represents the true revolutionary element of this concept car. Effective use of space, combined with original and highly innovative architectural solutions, not to mention the use of brand new technology that emphasises user-friendly, intuitive design, makes Giugiaro Clipper a veritable automotive research & design lab.
The six occupants can all get into the car at the same time thanks to the simultaneous opening of the doors and the absence of the B-pillar: with this architectural solution, Clipper offers one single, wide opening for access to the interior.

The Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust (among other names) is the second electric car that Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond made in the Electric Car Challenge. It was built with the intention of making a decent electric car, not just an overpriced car that's about as attractive as a baboon's bottom. The only problem with being the best looking electric car is that it would have to be better looking than the Tesla, which most would argue it is not. The Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust had no problems in the price department but was designed by Jeremy and described by Top Trumps as looking like a 'slow-moving outside lavatory'. Its predecessor was named Geoff. This time, it was armed with more batteries and a diesel generator to recharge said batteries. While the car was still slow, it was considerably faster than Geoff and in a drag race it easily beat a cyclist, a runner and a G-Wiz. The exterior was still the same, but with a sprung "push bar" in the front, for protection during crashes. Richard put on narrow tyres from a Citroën 2CV to reduce friction. The generator that James installed would often fill the car with exhaust gases. This would eventually kill one of The Stig's cousins, Janet Stig-Porter. In a wind tunnel, the car was so aerodynamically poor that it slid across the test area and we are told that it crashed into the fans at one end.
It travelled to Goodwood for the Festival of Speed 2010.
At the end of the 'testing' of the car, Stig dropped it off at the Autocar H.Q. for their view. The car was badly criticised for having bad braking, handling and the worst car design ever. It did, however, get one half-star better than the G-Wiz.

The phrase ‘Clear Vision’ in this Detroit Electric’s name refers to the extra flip-up windscreen, which afforded the minimum of protection in rainy weather, ensuring good vision on the road.
It is interesting to note the dual controls and levers; the car could be driven from both the front and the back seats. The batteries are stored in the boot at the rear of the car.
The 160 km range was very competitive so it was not surprising that the Detroit Electric became one of the market leaders in electric cars in the US at the beginning of the 20th century. Around 1910 the annual production was approximately 1,500 cars.
Unlike most manufacturers of electric cars, Detroit Electric managed to hold out until the mid 1930s, thanks to the production of delivery vans for bakers and milkmen.
