Lothian 710e (SF74 YMJ), seen here at King’s Building on Route 9, is the first day that Lothian’s BZLs enter public service. When I first rode them, I thought they would be as good as the demonstrator 997 (997 is a really nice vehicle), but I was disappointed. For the ride experience, the announcement is extremely annoying and boring, saying which bus route you can interchange at the stop every stop, and it will also say the night bus routes in daylight, which in my opinion is just pointless and annoying. These 10 brand new electric buses reliability is not at the good standard that Lothian usually provides; 701 and 703 both broke down; others are not much better either. The build quality is absolutely shocking; like this 710, it received some “special care”, as a screw had already fallen off, which is quite disappointing.

Use of hydrogen as a power source in buses has generated mixed results, with large amounts of subsidy required. In some areas - Aberdeen and Liverpool - the net results have been disastrous, with highly-expensive vehicles ultimately doing little work (or in some cases, no work at all) before abandonment of the project at the cost of tens of millions of pounds of public money.
Not all is bad for hydrogen, however. In Groningen in the Netherlands, Qbuzz runs a fleet of around 30 Van Hool A330 models that use fuel cell power. They were to be seen consistently during a Sunday visit, suggesting that they work as expected. Rudimentary Dutch suggests that the messaging above the windows notes how they consume green hydrogen from a sustainable source. Here 7219 (04-BRJ-9) passes Groningen station while working a Streek-branded service.

This Baker Electric was the model for Grandma Duck’s car in Walt Disney’s Donald Duck cartoons.
Note the beautiful silk and brocade interior upholstery, which denotes that this Baker was a luxurious automobile aimed at the ladies of high society. The roof was built high to allow for the large hats that were fashionable at the time.
The dashboard was located at the top, against the roof and merely consists of a Volt and an Ampere gauge. The batteries were placed in the front under the ‘bonnet’ and in a space at the rear, and could be recharged by connecting to the mains; the engine itself was located underneath the seat. The car had tiller steering, which was relatively outdated at the time that it was launched.
The Baker was positioned as the ‘Aristocrat of Motordom’, which guaranteed freedom from ‘the Uncertainties of the Explosive Motor or Steam-Driven Vehicles’.

Oslo has made excellent progress in moving its bus fleet away from diesel and I believe it is the case that all of those city-bound vehicles have now made that shift. Various manufacturers are represented in that battery-electric pool, including VDL. Here articulated Citea SLFA-180 is seen near the central station while working a trip on route 81, complete with some rather fresh-looking damage to the nearside front corner.

Not a clockwork orange.
This 1602, to all appearances the same of thousands of 02s that helped build BMW's success, is 100 % electric. It was unveiled at the Munich Olympic Games in the heart of Bavaria, BMW territory. The 1602 was in full running order using an ingenious system of interchangeable batteries. It was the first step on the road that led to today's i-BMW's.

One of two demonstrator buses being tried out by the MVTA during the Superbowl 52 frenzy. This is the Catalyst demo seen here at 28th Avenue Station bus stop for the 403 shuttle to Eagan Transit station.
If interested, here's a 'ride' recording: youtu.be/cimolHclZhY
The other demo is an ADL E500 Super-Lo, which I was unable to get a photo of.

The E-Star is an all electric truck that entered FedEx service around half a decade ago and is based on a design by a defunct British company, Modec. FedEx was a launch customer for the eStar, which costs about $150,000.
