The fortunes of First Bus have seen quite a turn in recent years, where after a long period of retrenchment and disposals it has embarked upon multiple bouts of expansion via acquisition. By far the largest component of that is purchase of the former RATP Dev Transit London operation. It took First back into the Transport for London market after having exited it over a decade ago. Naturally, no livery change is required for vehicles that came with the deal, but First Bus fleet names now look to have been applied to all of that stock. Buses still carry RATP Dev Transit London numbers but all have First Bus national series numbers 'in the background'.
Here is seen BCE47150 (LG71 DXJ), a BYD ADL Enviro400EV battery-electric double-decker in Southgate working a 125 journey to Colindale. It is numbered 38540 within the First Bus scheme, according to the Bustimes site.

The Wrightbus StreetDeck in diesel-powered form (or the 'Ultroliner' as it has more recently become known) struggled to make headway in the Transport for London market. More recently, the battery-electric Electroliner model has gained momentum and deliveries are continuing to various operators. Stagecoach London is among those, being a relatively recent convert to Wrightbus products. A batch of them work route 257 between Stratford and Walthamstow. Here 82081 (LV74 BZD) approaches journey's end amid a scene so typical of modern-day East London.
Effectively wrapping up the diesel-electric hybrid phase for double-deck buses in the UK and Irish market was the Alexander Dennis Enviro400ER, a plug-in model that is capable of around 2.5km in zero-emission mode with the engine off thanks to 32kWh of battery capacity. The National Transport Authority of Ireland was the biggest customer for the Enviro400ER and a decent number are to be seen in Dublin.
Here Dublin Bus PA136 (212-D-20117) crosses O'Connell Bridge in Dublin one Sunday morning while on its way to commence the day's service. As with most body types, the Transport for Ireland yellow and green sits well on the Enviro400 City body style.

As would be expected given VDL's headquarters in the area, Eindhoven hosts a large number of buses from the manufacturer. Newest among those are the latest-generation Citea battery-electric types in what looks to be at least two lengths. Here Citea LF-122 2156 (49-BVL-9) in operator Hermes' fleet carries the customary Bravo livery as is has just passed underneath the tracks immediately to the west of Eindhoven Centraal railway station while working a 324 journey to Geldrop Coevering.
Yutong came to the UK coach market via dealership Pelican Bus and Coach in 2014, expanded into buses in 2016 or so, and has seen massive growth in numbers since then. It is reckoned that around 850 passenger vehicles from the manufacturer will be registered here in 2025. While the idea of taxpayer subsidy going to a Chinese builder is not to everyone's taste, the reality of the Yutong battery-electric product is that it is highly mature and exceptionally reliable, with 100% availability not unusual. McGill's Bus Group has been an enthusiastic purchaser, first for its core McGill's Buses fleet and now with Xplore Dundee and Midlands Bluebird.
One of the earliest purchase is I 5043 (SG71 OUF), an E12 single-decker. Here it is working a 23 from Glasgow Paisley and turns next to a quintessential Glaswegian bar, The Laurieston.

A reasonably-sized fleet of Heuliez GX 437 batter-electric articulated buses are prominent on Q-link city routes in Groningen. Some carry discreet branding and a coloured strip for a particular route (or routes), as seen here with blue below the window line. Others are in a more generic but pleasing style where the strip includes several different colours. They are operated by Qbuzz. Here 7409 (73-BPB-9) crosses the Herebrug over the Verbindingskanaal while working a 4 trip to the Hoogkerk park-and-ride site. The opportunity charging equipment can just about be seen on the roof.

Transport for London chose route 358 in the south-east of the capital to evaluate opportunity charging, something presumably made necessary (or desirable) via its 15-odd mile end-to-end distance and what could well be operational characteristics that at the time pushed the boundaries of 'depot charged' battery-electric buses. The Irizar ie tram fleet utilised benefits from such opportunity charging between trips at 450kW, although their entry into service was protracted, apparently because some/all of the oppcharge infrastructure was not ready. While they are all now in use, at least one Enviro200 diesel was working alongside them on the day this picture was taken.
Nevertheless, the Irizars are visually striking and unlike any other vehicles on the TfL network, although that is a primary purpose of the bus rapid transit-ready design. Opportunity charging also means less battery mass to carry, to the benefit of passenger capacity. Here Go-Ahead London IE7 (LJ23 FHU) is seen in Orpington working a Crystal Palace-bound journey.
Moving silently into the century.
Detroit was on its way to becoming the capital of the motor car. The town's name was that of a company set up in 1907 dedicated to building clean reliable electric cars : up to 1.000 per year. It survived till 1939. The Anderson Carriage Company supplied coachwork for this car whose driver sat inside.

This electric powered car was made by City Wheels Limited and was designed to take people on short journeys in and around towns and cities. You would use a credit card to pay for the hire of the vehicle which would be swiped at a charging terminal.

The Irizar ie tram battery-electric bus has gained traction on flagship-type schemes around Europe, and I believe some are also to be delivered to Mexico. It is a visually-striking model that is aptly named. Opportunity charging is part of the package, which allows battery mass to be reduced and passenger capacity to be maximised. In Switzerland, examples of the ie tram in both 12m and 18m form are to be seen in Schaffhausen, where at present a project is underway outside the city's main railway station to add further opportunity charging gantries. Some such units are already in use, with this articulated example having made use of one for a few minute before departing on a 3 journey for Sommerwies.

This is a 2-seater city car with the legendary opening front. The model presented here, version 1.0, is a pre-series that will never be commercialized. But there was enough interest to convince the builders to start a series production - model 2.0.
