This Columbia electric car was bought new by Queen Alexandra for use in the grounds of Sandringham House, Norfolk. It is one of a range of electric vehicles manufactured in the USA under the Columbia name and marketed in Britain by The City & Suburban Electric Carriage Co. of London. The body is a ‘victoriette’ fitted in Britain. Mr RGJ Nash acquired this vehicle for his collection in the 1930s and drove it regularly when petrol was rationed in the 1940s.

The first practical electric road carriage was built by Magnus Volk of Brighton in 1887. By the beginning of the 20th century, several manufacturers were marketing electric vehicles. They were clean and silent but the batteries were heavy and the distance between charges was limited. One charge of the battery gave the Columbia a range of forty miles.

An urban icon signed by a master's hand - that of Peyo, creator of the beloved Smurfs - this is a brand new car offered by the importer of Microlino in Belgium . When Swiss engineering meets the graphic poetry of Belgian comics, the result is as surprising as it is exceptional: a Microlino fully customized in the spirit of Peyo's universe.

Inspired by the iconic microcars of the 1950s and first seen at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016, the Microlino embodies a modern and sustainable vision of urban mobility: compact, electric, elegant, and eco-conscious. Designed by Swiss company Micro Mobility Systems and exclusively distributed in Belgium by D'Ieteren, the Microlino stands out with its rounded silhouette, signature front-opening door, and a range of up to 228 kilometres depending on the battery. Manufactured in Europe with a steel chassis and aluminium body, this retro-designed city car - valued at €25,000 - offers a driving experience that is as unique as it is efficient. Available as either a light or heavy quadricycle, the Microlino can be charged with either a household or Type 2 connector. The 12.5kW (17hp) electric motor is mounted at the rear and there is a choice of batteries in three different capacities giving ranges of 91km, 177km, and 228km respectively. The Microlino seats two adults and has 230 litres of luggage space. Top speed is 90km/h.

For this exclusive edition, the Microlino becomes a canvas for the timeless universe of Peyo. This unique model pays tribute to the Smurfs through an artistic design blending humour, tenderness, and nostalgia. A true one-of-a-kind work of art on wheels, it symbolizes the meeting point between popular imagination and technological innovation.

All proceeds from the sale will go directly to the Heads Up Fund for Brain Tumour Research based in Ghent, Belgium, which actively supports research into brain tumours, particularly among young people. Through this charitable initiative, the Zoute Grand Prix, Bonhams, D'Ieteren, and the Smurfs come together to show that art, mobility, and social commitment can move forward hand in hand.

Battery-electric buses from multiple manufacturers are to be seen in Luxembourg. The Emile Weber fleet has a number of Mercedes-Benz eCitaro types in both standard and articulated format, and that's what is seen here near to Gare Central in Luxembourg City while operating a journey on route 160. In addition to MB, electric buses from Irizar, MAN, VDL, Volvo and even Karsan are also in service in the country.

Seen in Reading, Berkshire on Purple 17 Service to Tilehurst..

The first set of fully electric battery-powered buses entered service on 6 February.

The buses have entered service in Reading Buses 125th anniversary year as Reading Borough Council acquired the town’s horse-drawn tramway in 1901 to electrify it. To help mark this occasion, bus number 4 has a special golden design to celebrate this.

The new Alexander Dennis Enviro 400EV's were launched Great Knollys Street depot in Reading on Thursday 5 February 2026.

The new Zero Emission Buses for the Reading Area – or ZEBRA for short – looked impressive lined up and the event even featured there new mascot for the zero emission buses – Zippy the Zebra – who will be present at future events including our charity Open Day.

Reading Buses confirmed the existing bio-methane fuelled purple 17 buses are staying with the company, but are being refurbished before moving onto other routes, namely berry 23/24 and sky blue 15/16.

There will also be a further six elecrric buses joining the fleet in 2026 on the yellow 26 route between Central Reading, Southcote and Calcot.

This will see the Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 Classic's all Withdrawn from service later in the year.

This Baker Electric was the model for Grandma Duck’s car in Walt Disney’s Donald Duck cartoons.

Note the beautiful silk and brocade interior upholstery, which denotes that this Baker was a luxurious automobile aimed at the ladies of high society. The roof was built high to allow for the large hats that were fashionable at the time.

The dashboard was located at the top, against the roof and merely consists of a Volt and an Ampere gauge. The batteries were placed in the front under the ‘bonnet’ and in a space at the rear, and could be recharged by connecting to the mains; the engine itself was located underneath the seat. The car had tiller steering, which was relatively outdated at the time that it was launched.

The Baker was positioned as the ‘Aristocrat of Motordom’, which guaranteed freedom from ‘the Uncertainties of the Explosive Motor or Steam-Driven Vehicles’.

Although on first impressions this looks to be a standard Series 111 109” military Land Rover, there is an important difference. The engine and running gear are in place but the back is packed with eleven aviation-type gel sealed batteries connected to produce 216V and there is an electric motor driving the PTO point on the gearbox.

The vehicle dates from 1975 but the conversion was carried out in 1993 at DERA Land Systems at Chertsey as a trials vehicle for use in Northern Ireland, the obvious attraction presumably being the potential for silent running.

Flicking a switch on the dash and engaging the PTO swaps power from petrol to electric. The brakes use an electric vacuum pump and drive is broken by a switch on the brake pedal pad. There is a rheostat on the throttle pedal which controls the current.

We understand that three of these were built and tested, the other two being Defender-based, but they never went into production. Silent drive except for the noise of the military tyres!
