It is still dry season and the veld and Zebras almost created a B&W image.

Every year for Christmas, our tour operator for South Africa trips sends these lovely handmade bead figurines to their customers. I already own an elephant, a rhino and a zebra. Yesterday this cute buffalo arrived.

We made a brief visit to the Niagara Butterfly Conservatory during our trip to Niagara Falls last year. Although it was unusually crowded, I managed to capture a few photos of some butterflies.
Zebra battles are common on the plains of Africa. A determined stallion has to prove he has the right stuff, before he can mate with a female. He may need to fight.

I'm impressed that the Canon 200-400 with the 1.4x picked up the whiskers and eye lashes on this zebra's face so clearly.

Early morning light over the dry and dusty Africa’s grassland, adds an outstanding element to this Zebra image.
Hope you will enjoy this shot.

ANSH scavenger11 "like a fish out of water"

The mountain zebra is a threatened species in the family Equidae. It is native to south-western Angola, Namibia and South Africa. Like all extant zebras, mountain zebras are boldly striped in black or dark brown and no two individuals look exactly alike. The whole body is striped except for the belly.

Zebras are generally thought of as peaceful animals but fights for dominance between stallions can be savage, with tails being bitten off, bones broken and some fights even going to the death. A male zebra walking around with only a stump for a tail may well be presumed to have lost it to a large predator, but the most likely culprit is in fact another zebra. They have fiercely sharp teeth, and a well-placed nip from a strong jaw can easily result in the loss of a tail, or at least a portion of it.
The two seen her were probably testing each other as a prelude to striking out and attempting to win females of their own.
