SP34 Canberra to Sydney Xplorer has just topped the hill at Exeter, the highest point on the main south line between Goulburn and Sydney. A summer storm is not far behind.
Exeter NSW that is, a small village in the NSW southern highlands. The station sees low patronage, but it is the highest station still in use on the Sydney-Melbourne line, at 719 metres (2360 feet).
The approaching train is SP34 up Canberra Xplorer.

EA2503 leads SP35 through East Hills bound for Canberra, this would have been the second time this set would have gone to Canberra in one day.

I seem to have gotten the most things from Southern Rail in 2013. From left to right are: Austrains NSWGR vans, Wuiske OLO tank wagons, Southern Rail VAK coal hoppers, ALY vans, NTAF tank wagons, NDHF sleeper wagons, U-boats and an Xplorer set. Beside the Xplorer is a Northern Models PCO van and the Auscision coaches.
NP23, the daily CountryLink Xplorer service from Sydney to Moree and Armidale is seen beginning the descent of the Liverpool Range at Ardglen.
Normally operated by a 3-car Xplorer (the Armidale portion) and a 2-car Xplorer (the Moree portion), the Armidale portion of the train is typically built up in school holiday periods to four cars. As well as being the last weekend of the school holidays, it is also the last days of the Tamworth Country Music festival, so the Armidale portion has been built up to five cars to bring festival goers back to Sydney the following morning.
As only seven intermediate cars were built for the Xplorer trains, this means that all are in use - the other Xplorer service to Sydney from Armidale had two intermediate cars, and two more intermediate cars are used on the two Canberra Xplorer sets. Not much room for failure if one of them breaks down!
Departing Tamworth, the Xplorer train from Sydney to Armidale, with apparently, the two cars which usually run to Moree in addition to the usual three. May 2013.
