SK65 PWN is a Wright Streetdeck H45/28F new Nov 2015 , one of eight new at Wells depot to replace single deck Volvos on service 376 from Bristol to Street. All eight were in blue and gold livery with Mendip Xplorer branding and First Mendip fleetnames.
They quickly proved unsuitable for the steep climbs over the Mendips , and were transferred to the Bristol fleet in in 2019 and repainted in Urban livery with red or purple fronts.
35163/4 were withdrawn in October 2022 , and 35162 was repainted in blue driver recruitment livery in September 2022. The remaining five were transferred to Weston-super-Mare at the beginning of April 2023 , along with the other remaining 65 reg'd Streetdecks. It is likely that they will receive Badgerline livery.
35166 is in Clevedon on service X5 from Weston to Portishead.

What is this mysterious Jones Tours demonstrator train? An early Talgo or Budd concept? For $2 at a lowly antique store in the armpit of Florida, I couldn’t say no
“In 1964 the New Haven sold the trainset to the Pickens Railroad of South Carolina, whose subsidiary Jones Tours operated public excursions. Interestingly, this company also purchased the New York Central's Xplorer for the same purpose. Both sets were scrapped around 1970”
In 1955 the New York Central and New Haven each ordered a set of Pullman lightweight, single axle, "Train X" passenger cars. Baldwin was contracted to build the locomotives. The NYC train would have one locomotive while the NH train would have a locomotive at each end, so three units were ordered, they were completed in 1956.
The NYC train, called the Xplorer, entered service in 1956 and the NH train called the Dan'l Webster entered service in 1957. Both trains were retired in 1960, due largely to the rough ride of the single axle passenger cars.
In June of 1963, a gentleman by the name of James F Jones, who owned the Pickens Railroad in South Carolina and operated an excursion service called Jones Tours, purchased the old Xplorer set, which had been dormant for 5 years, dragged it down to South Carolina and got it operational with plans to run excursions over Southern Railway and Seaboard Air Line to Charlotte and Atlanta, with farther trips to Alabama and Florida on occasion. In '64, he also purchased the Dan'l Webster set from New Haven, which had stored theirs at Cedar Hill, and shipped it south as well. Jones reportedly purchased it for scrap price, while New Haven had spent $1.3 million on it when new.
Both trains were sold to a subsidiary of the Pickens Railroad called Jones Tours (see below photos) to run excursions. Both trains were eventually scrapped around 1970.

Mendip Xplorer liveried Volvo B7RLE / Wright Eclipse 2 on the 126 in Weston-Super-Mare. In the coming months this batch (except 69448) will be heading to Leicester, just like the other half of this batch of 59 reg Volvos did in late 2014.
In 2008 Bath received 8 of these 2003 Volvo / Alexander H77F buses transferred from Bristol. There have been many transfers to and fro since and 32279 returned to Bath in December 2016. It was repainted in Olympia livery in 2013.
Today it is on loan to Wells depot, very noisily working on service 172 in Paulton. Bath's 32344 LK53YZE , which was on 376 last week was also on 172 today , plus two Eclipse 2s , actually in Mendip Xplorer livery.
Wells seem to be very short of serviceable Xplorers as 44556 and 66731 were also on loan for the 126 last week , plus 66728.
Endeavour is a diesel multiple unit train operated by Transport NSW TrainLink on passenger rail services in New South Wales (Hunter Valley, Main Western, Southern Highlands and Illawarra lines). They are also mechanically identical to the Xplorers.
Here, we see the old AND the new together departing Moss Vale for Sydney on a 'crisp' morning...
EA2508 and V44 are seen under the clocktower at Central. The Xplorer on the left is bound for Canberra and the V Set on the right will head to the Blue Mountains.
While this may be a common scene today, new intercity and regional fleets are expected to enter service in the coming years. Testing of the new intercity trains, which are expected to replace the V Sets, has commenced. An order has been placed for new regional trains which are set to replace the Xplorers.

Something a bit different: With EA2505 in the lead and EC2523 bringing up the rear, 5 car Northern Tablelands Xplorer NP23 is only minutes from its destination of Armidale.
Seen here through Werrington in Sydney's outer western suburbs tonight.
Tonight was my first crack at night train photography. How did I do? I think they're a bit ordinary but not too bad.
Alexander Dennis E40D Enviro 400 H45/28F new to First Devon and Cornwall in March 2012. All nine of these were transferred to First Bristol at Hengrove around the end of 2016 and painted with orange fronts on urban livery for service 50. With the timetable changes at the beginning of September 2017 33666 and 33667 were transferred to Weston-super-Mare , and repainted in Excel livery for North Somerset X services.
Service X5 from Weston-super-Mare to Cribbs Causeway was handed over to Stagecoach West from 1st September 2019 . The Hengrove 2012 Enviros are going to Wells from September to replace the dreaded Streetdecks , so it made sense for 33666/7 from Weston to join them.
33667 is now in Mendip Xplorer livery and is working on Wells service 172 in Paulton.
The Endeavour is a diesel multiple unit train operated by NSW TrainLink on passenger rail services in New South Wales, Australia on the Hunter Valley, Main Western, Southern Highlands and Illawarra lines. Mechanically identical to the Xplorer Class, all 30 carriages were built by ABB Transportation in Dandenong, Victoria. The units were introduced in 1994.
Volvo B9TL / Wright Gemini H45/29F new to First Bristol in October 2008. 37605/6/8-10 have been used on the Long Ashton Park and Ride in a red livery since 2012. When they were replaced by Scanias on Metrobus m2 on 3rd September 2018 it was thought that they would all be repainted in Mendip Xplorer livery for use at Wells. 37605/6/10 have gone to Wells , but 37608/9 have remained at Hengrove and have received Unibus livery the same as the 2017 Alexander Dennis E400mmc 33491-9 bought for the U1 last year.
A new hourly service U2 from Queens Road , Bristol to Langford Veterinary School began on 24 September 2018. 37608 is seen at the Langford campus heading for Bristol on the 16.10 departure on U2.
The second bus on U2 this week has been 33491 YY67HAA.
35163 is a Wright Streetdeck H45/28F new Nov 2015 , one of eight at Wells depot to replace single deck Volvos on service 376 from Bristol to Street. All eight were in blue and gold livery with Mendip Xplorer branding and First Mendip fleetnames. They were not a success on the hilly long distance 376 , and were replaced with 2012 Enviro 400s in 2019.
35163 was the last Streetdeck to leave Wells for Hengrove in the swap at the end of December 2019 , when it received Urban livery with a red front. Today it is in Broadmead on service 90.
It is now being reported that Weston-super-Mare depot is to receive 28 new Streetdecks for Excel services.
Service X5 from Weston-super-Mare to Cribbs Causeway was temporarily handed over to Stagecoach West from 1st September 2019 . The Hengrove 2012 Enviros were transferred to Wells from September 2019 to replace the dreaded Streetdecks , so it made sense for 33666/7 from Weston to join them. All nine are now in Mendip Xplorer livery.
Earlier in 2020 it was announced that service 126 would be rebranded as the Strawberry Route with three or four Eclipses in a new livery. This has not happened , and for the past couple of weeks Wells depot has been running double deckers on the 126 - a feat which had previously been thought to be impossible.
33664 is arriving in Weston-super-Mare on 126 , running half an hour late according to bustimes which seems to have the wrong timetable , the 126 having reverted to an hourly service . I cannot find the current timetable anywhere !

Volvo B7RLE / Wright B43F new Dec 2004 , originally at Wells for service 376 to Bristol in "Rail link" livery. The Wells batch were all replaced with new Volvo/ Wrights in Oct 2009 , and most moved to Weston super Mare , by which time most had been repainted in standard Barbie livery.
When the X2/X3 services were converted to double deck operation in Sept 2016 66721 moved back to Wells and in March 2017 it was repainted in Mendip Xplorer blue and gold livery.
All 25 vehicles at Wells are now in this Mendip Xplorer livery , all except 3 having been new at Wells , 9 Streetdecks , 14 Eclipse 2s , and 66720/1 , which being the oldest work mainly on 126 in accordance with tradition.
66721 is in Winscombe on 126 to Wells due at 14.35 and running about 10 minutes late.
66721 was involved in a head-on crash on 20th November 2017 and may well be written off. 66936 has gone to Wells to replace it for now.
A combined NSW Trains 5-Car Xplorer calls at Hornsby on the Northern Line, one fine morning, with Train NP23. The consist will divide at Werris Creek with the front three cars bound for Armidale and the rear two cars bound for Moree.
NSW Countylink Xplorers EC 2527 & EA 2507 on the Up into cloudy Yerrinbool Station in the Southern Highlands of New South wales, Australia
Large granite boulders are strewn all over the landscape in the New England region of NSW. Sometimes it appears as if the chosen track alignment is based upon where these obstacles have been placed!
With EC2523 at the front and EA2505 bringing up the rear, 5 car Northern Tablelands Xplorer NP24 just clears the beligerent boulder on the Northern side of Uralla.
Endeavour Car EC2527 leads a three-car Endeavour set towards Lithgow at Farmers Creek. Running as train number WP28, the Xplorer set was "standing in" for WT28 Dubbo to Sydney XPT service. The XPT power cars that would normally operate this service had instead operated The Elvis Express to/from Parkes. It is also not uncommon for an Xplorer to operate the Dubbo service when XPT power cars are in for maintenance.
Wright Streetdeck H45/28F new Nov 2015 , one of eight at Wells depot to replace single deck Volvos on service 376 from Bristol to Street. All eight are in this blue and gold livery with Mendip Xplorer branding.
35163 is working the 11.26 departure from Street to Bristol due here at Temple Gate at 12.58 and is running 7 minutes late.
Volvo B7RLE / Wright Eclipse Urban 2 B44F new 10/2009 , in Bath on service 174 to Wells.
12 of these buses which were ordered for First Somerset in Bath were diverted to the Bristol fleet. All of this batch left Bristol early in 2015 , mostly in exchange for double deckers from Leicester, but 69457 and 69458 were transferred to First Somerset and Avon at Marlborough Street , subsequently returning to First Bristol at Hengrove where they were useful spares for service A1 to Bristol Airport.
69458 was transferred to Wells depot of First Somerset and Avon in January 2016 to replace non DDA compliant B10BLEs.
After a few months back at Marlborough Street it was one of the first to be painted in Mendip Xplorer blue and gold livery like the Streetdecks and was transferred in Sept 2016 back to Wells which now has all 14 of the remaining 59 regd Volvos once again.
69458 was repainted in Discover livery in November 2020.
