Armidale station and the since sold station master's residence in snow recorded on Kodachrome 64 slide film on 28 June 1990. Passenger trains to this Northern Tablelands city had ceased in February of that year but were subsequently re-introduced with Xplorer railcars only a few years later.

ADL Enviro 400 climbing up Silver Street out of Midsomer Norton on a 174 to Wells. This top end of Silver Street had been closed for the whole of 2020 during construction of the new Norton Hill Primary School. 37666 has carried a number of liveries and was previously in Excel colours.
Taking over from XPTs on the Tamworth run in 1993 before being extended to Armidale (and Moree) the following year, the five-car Xplorer is seen ascending the Liverpool Range at Ardglen with NP24, the return of the inaugural Xplorer service in NSW.
Volvo B9TL / Wright Gemini H45/29F new to First Bristol in October 2008. 37605/6/8-10 have been used on the Long Ashton Park and Ride in a red livery since 2012. When they were replaced by Scanias on Metrobus m2 on 3rd September 2018 it was thought that they would all be repainted in Mendip Xplorer livery for use at Wells. 37605/6/10 have gone to Wells , but 37608/9 have remained at Hengrove and have received Unibus livery the same as the 2017 Alexander Dennis E400mmc 33491-9 bought for the U1 last year. A new hourly service U2 from Queens Road , Bristol to Langford Veterinary School began on 24 September 2018. The two newest Geminis 37771/2 also received Mendip Xplorer livery in September 2018 and the 5 Geminis went to Wells in exchange for 5 Volvo B7RLE single deckers 69439-42/8 which went to Bristol. 37610 is leaving from Paulton on the 13.53 departure on service 172 to Bath. Deckers still seem to be unusual on 172 and the next three departures were all 59regd single deckers. The Volvo B9s are often found on the 376 instead of Streetdecks.
37610 was reported to have failed before the end of the day whilst working the 172.

SK65 PWN is a Wright Streetdeck H45/28F new Nov 2015 , one of eight new at Wells depot to replace single deck Volvos on service 376 from Bristol to Street. All eight were in blue and gold livery with Mendip Xplorer branding and First Mendip fleetnames.
They quickly proved unsuitable for the steep climbs over the Mendips , and were transferred to the Bristol fleet in in 2019 and repainted in Urban livery with red or purple fronts.
35163/4 were withdrawn in October 2022 , and 35162 was repainted in blue driver recruitment livery in September 2022. The remaining five were transferred to Weston-super-Mare at the beginning of April 2023 , along with the other remaining 65 reg'd Streetdecks. It is likely that they will receive Badgerline livery.
35166 is in Clevedon on service X5 from Weston to Portishead.

What is this mysterious Jones Tours demonstrator train? An early Talgo or Budd concept? For $2 at a lowly antique store in the armpit of Florida, I couldn’t say no
“In 1964 the New Haven sold the trainset to the Pickens Railroad of South Carolina, whose subsidiary Jones Tours operated public excursions. Interestingly, this company also purchased the New York Central's Xplorer for the same purpose. Both sets were scrapped around 1970”
In 1955 the New York Central and New Haven each ordered a set of Pullman lightweight, single axle, "Train X" passenger cars. Baldwin was contracted to build the locomotives. The NYC train would have one locomotive while the NH train would have a locomotive at each end, so three units were ordered, they were completed in 1956.
The NYC train, called the Xplorer, entered service in 1956 and the NH train called the Dan'l Webster entered service in 1957. Both trains were retired in 1960, due largely to the rough ride of the single axle passenger cars.
In June of 1963, a gentleman by the name of James F Jones, who owned the Pickens Railroad in South Carolina and operated an excursion service called Jones Tours, purchased the old Xplorer set, which had been dormant for 5 years, dragged it down to South Carolina and got it operational with plans to run excursions over Southern Railway and Seaboard Air Line to Charlotte and Atlanta, with farther trips to Alabama and Florida on occasion. In '64, he also purchased the Dan'l Webster set from New Haven, which had stored theirs at Cedar Hill, and shipped it south as well. Jones reportedly purchased it for scrap price, while New Haven had spent $1.3 million on it when new.
Both trains were sold to a subsidiary of the Pickens Railroad called Jones Tours (see below photos) to run excursions. Both trains were eventually scrapped around 1970.

Mendip Xplorer liveried Volvo B7RLE / Wright Eclipse 2 on the 126 in Weston-Super-Mare. In the coming months this batch (except 69448) will be heading to Leicester, just like the other half of this batch of 59 reg Volvos did in late 2014.
In 2008 Bath received 8 of these 2003 Volvo / Alexander H77F buses transferred from Bristol. There have been many transfers to and fro since and 32279 returned to Bath in December 2016. It was repainted in Olympia livery in 2013.
Today it is on loan to Wells depot, very noisily working on service 172 in Paulton. Bath's 32344 LK53YZE , which was on 376 last week was also on 172 today , plus two Eclipse 2s , actually in Mendip Xplorer livery.
Wells seem to be very short of serviceable Xplorers as 44556 and 66731 were also on loan for the 126 last week , plus 66728.

Something a bit different: With EA2505 in the lead and EC2523 bringing up the rear, 5 car Northern Tablelands Xplorer NP23 is only minutes from its destination of Armidale.
Seen here through Werrington in Sydney's outer western suburbs tonight.
Tonight was my first crack at night train photography. How did I do? I think they're a bit ordinary but not too bad.
Alexander Dennis E40D Enviro 400 H45/28F new to First Devon and Cornwall in March 2012. All nine of these were transferred to First Bristol at Hengrove around the end of 2016 and painted with orange fronts on urban livery for service 50. With the timetable changes at the beginning of September 2017 33666 and 33667 were transferred to Weston-super-Mare , and repainted in Excel livery for North Somerset X services.
Service X5 from Weston-super-Mare to Cribbs Causeway was handed over to Stagecoach West from 1st September 2019 . The Hengrove 2012 Enviros are going to Wells from September to replace the dreaded Streetdecks , so it made sense for 33666/7 from Weston to join them.
33667 is now in Mendip Xplorer livery and is working on Wells service 172 in Paulton.
The Endeavour is a diesel multiple unit train operated by NSW TrainLink on passenger rail services in New South Wales, Australia on the Hunter Valley, Main Western, Southern Highlands and Illawarra lines. Mechanically identical to the Xplorer Class, all 30 carriages were built by ABB Transportation in Dandenong, Victoria. The units were introduced in 1994.

35163 is a Wright Streetdeck H45/28F new Nov 2015 , one of eight at Wells depot to replace single deck Volvos on service 376 from Bristol to Street. All eight were in blue and gold livery with Mendip Xplorer branding and First Mendip fleetnames. They were not a success on the hilly long distance 376 , and were replaced with 2012 Enviro 400s in 2019.
35163 was the last Streetdeck to leave Wells for Hengrove in the swap at the end of December 2019 , when it received Urban livery with a red front. Today it is in Broadmead on service 90.
It is now being reported that Weston-super-Mare depot is to receive 28 new Streetdecks for Excel services.
