VH-XML, B733F, for Qantas Freight and operated by Express Freighters Australia, taxiing past ‘Sheps Mound’ for 34R Sydney Airport (SYD/YSSY) departure for Melbourne (MEL/YMML) after an engine change...

Delivered to Australian Airlines in December 1986 as VH-TAU ‘Enterprise’, it also spent time in the Qantas fleet, Jetconnect (ZK-JNF) before being converted to a freighter… This frame is 34.5 years old!

My IT related books piled together; I really should get a real bookshelf one day :)

Northern Pacific Railway XML 1303 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in October 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following is from the book, NP Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment, by Todd Sullivan: NP Series 1300-1305 - Northern Pacific had only 26 60-foot boxcars on its roster, and those arrived fairly late in the NP's history. The first group of six cars was built by Pullman-Standard in November 1966, and received the standard boxcar paint and lettering of that time: mineral brown and white lettering, 5 foot 6 inch NP initials shaded in black to the left of the door, and the 8 foot Northern Pacific Railway herald to the right of the 10 foot door.

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XML-8 10236 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in September 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The following description is from the book, CB&Q Color Guide To Freight And Passenger Equipment, by Michael J. Spoor:

"The Q returned to Pullman in 1965 for 55 more auto parts cars, # 10215-10269, which were designated XML-8. These cars had 10' sliding doors, Evans DF2 belt rails, and Hydroframe 40 cushion gear. Most of these cars were assigned to various divisions of General Motors".

Some of the cars were assigned to Libby Owens Ford Glass Company in Ottawa, Illinois. The diagonal stripe on the door indicates that Evans DF2 belt rails are installed. The reweigh date was: BJ-2-75.

My own interpretation of my simple cat (diagram here = www.origami-shop.com/chat-nicolas-terry-diagramme-gratuit...)

After some tests shaping the muzzle and change the size of the head, I wanted to know what's happen with a graft on the head to bring details. I noticed that with a specific widh, the graft bring a nice color change on the body with the possibility to shape back legs. Then I worked on the muzzle, rearranging the layers to discover more possibilities. I liked a lot one way where I pull out a trapped layer to create a kind of collar and make free some flaps for the ears. This collar give me the idea to transform the cat into a tomcat. But something was missing still on the head. So I played with the layers to bring more details, make 3D the ears and create the mustaches. The hidden back flap was used, not to create the second back legs like I did at right side, but to create the left front leg. And Voila, the Tomcat was born.

I tested several papers to fold it.. I wanted a visible change of color. I tested first on Unkashi Hanairo paper (a Gray/ light brown kraft with fur texture). Then, I wanted rather a white collar with fur texture for the white part. So my second choice was to use a white Unryu.

This thin paper is slightly transparent so we can't glue on a foil (so no washi deluxe for example). Tissue-foil could be a good choice but this model doesn't need foil for the shaping. On contrary an heavy paper bring thickness so the shadows under the mustache could be highlight. Kinumomi and Elephant paper could be good choice for that. But I wanted a more textured paper. So I choose the Octa paper.

About the color, the dark brown color make the white fibers visible. More over, It softens the brilliant whiteness of unryu.

Here it is, my Twin-Pod aka "Why are orange parts so rare and expensive !?"

Parts : 422

Size : 16,6 x 15,5 x 6,4 cm / 6,6 x 6,1 x 2,5 inches

Stud.io say 55€, but some parts can be in any color (purple in the files) and chance are that you may already have some.

At 0.129€/part it's almost at the level of official one, be prepare orange parts are rare and expensive, but I repeat myself I think.

It look like the trap can't close but actually it's because of the round shape of the handle. You can see on the projected view that the trap is indeed horizontal.

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XM-4C 49539 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in April 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This car was stenciled: XM and BLT.HV.7.66 . The following is excerpted from the book, CB&Q Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment, by Michael J. Spoor: CB&Q #'s 49400 - 49799 were built at Havelock ( CB&Q shops in Nebraska ) during 1966 ( as Class XML-11 ). Built to a Northern Pacific design, these were the only boxcars on the Q to feature the waffle pattern on the car side. All of the cars featured the combination 6' and 8' plug doors with grain access doors ( at the top of the 8' door ) originally introduced in 1963 on the Class XM-4's. Also like the XM-4's, they had an inside length of 50' 6" and a 5,080 cu. ft. capacity. While the XM-4B's of 1966 came with roofwalks and ladders, these cars never received either, even though both groups of cars were being built at the same time.

The waffle side cars featured protrusions on the exterior which held load tie-downs on the interior. Between 1967 and 1970, 126 cars had their loading devices removed and were re-classed XM-4C while retaining their former numbers. The only visible difference was the class stencil - XML or XL ( loader equipped ) or XM ( loaders removed ) - to the right of the CAPY data.

CHicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XML-16 20788 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in October 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Berwick Foundry and Forge built 205 of these cars , numbered 20695-20899, in 1969. They were 50'6" inside, and had a 10' door, and this one is stenciled as having a 5080 cu. ft. capacity. This particular car is stencilled: Blt. 7. 69, and the re-weigh date is: SD. 2 75. The use of red paint with the re-weigh lettering suggests a CB&Q scale was used. There was a scale at Sheridan, Wyoming and Shenandoah, Iowa, two towns with SD in the name, just speculation on my part. These cars eventually became BN 316900-317104.

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XML-8 10261 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in June 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The CB&Q acquired 55 auto parts boxcars from Pullman-Standard in 1965, placed in the number series 10215-10269. Most were assigned to various divisions of General Motors. The white diagonal stripe on the door indicates DF2 belt rails installed. It was equipped with a Hydroframe 40 cushion underframe. The exterior dimensions were: 68' long, 10' 8" extreme width, 15'8' extreme height from rail, 10' sliding door. These cars were assigned BN 355015-355069 number series.

The original Lotus VI registered "XML 6" was completed in July 1952 using a Ford Consul engine.

The car first raced at Silverstone on the 5th of July.

Lotus founders Colin Chapman, Hazel Chapman and Michael & Nigel Allen all drove the car during July.

The car was written off on the 1st of August in a road accident.

Following the success of the VI, orders flowed in.

This car spawned generations of successful Lotus racers.

This 1:43 recreation of the first Lotus Mark VI has been made by SMTS (Scale Model Technical Services) of Hastings.

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XML-8 10260 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in January 1981, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. The CB&Q had 15 of these auto parts cars built by Pullman-Standard in July 1965 (#'s 10200-10214), and added 55 more (# 10215-10269) specifically designed for the auto parts business. Some of the cars were in dedicated service, and one on-line auto parts supplier was Libby Owens Ford Glass in Ottawa, Illinois, to which some of these cars were assigned. This one is placarded as containing Glass. The diagonal white stripe on the door indicated Evans DF2 belt rails were installed in the car. One source has it that if you were a loyal GM customer (purchased EMD locomotives), auto parts traffic would be routed onto your railroad.

Abellio London route N343: New Cross, Bus Garage - Trafalgar Square, Charing Cross Station

Departed Hanover Park (R), towards Harris Academy (S)

Had a fun ride aboard an E400 on route N343. I did nod off in Southwark before finding us being forced to switch onto a 12-reg parked ahead. It took me a few moments to realise we were at Waterloo Bridge / South Bank during the switch. The driver complained to the service controllers during the remaining drive to Trafalgar Square as he multitasked slow driving and pressing buttons in search of the N343 option for the displays!

Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Class XML-16 20716 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in September 1981, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This was one of 205 class XML-16's built in 1969 by Berwick Foundry and Forge. It was delivered in the pre-merger cascade green paint scheme. The plan was to paint the word NORTHERN below BURLINGTON once the merger was approved in 1970, but the font changed after the merger, so the plan was never implemented. For grins, I cloned the word NORTHERN out of BURLINGTON and "painted" it on the car in Photoshop, and I think I see the problem. The letter E is difficult to read in this font style. The final BN font is thinner. This car is stenciled: "When Empty Return To Railroad Agent Clinton Iowa" on the right side by the ladder. The re-weigh date is: CP 9-79.
