The final stop on my run north, Derwentwater in the Lake District. Not a successful stop this with two waterfalls being almost dry and then me forgetting that the sun would dip below those hills earlier than it would the surface-level horizon. With the time available this shot came out better than could have been expected though.

Dakota Hunt as Buckingham Camera Club's "Rock Chick". Shot with three modelling lights (no flash) - one softbox directly in front and low, a light to the right with purple gel to light the backdrop and a blue hair catchlight behind the model camera left.

Festival of the Lion King, always a good show. Apparently rated the top show on Disney property, but I still think Nemo is better. The show we saw was shorter than before as the tumble monkeys were missing. Whether that was a temporary or permanent change I do not know.

One of the drummers during the performance near The Point this evening. Incredible show, completely mad in places with fireworks being launched here there and everywhere, plus some frenetic drumming. Thoroughly recommended, go tomorrow night if you didn't go this evening!

Agusta A109s were the mainstay of the fleet in and out of Silverstone Heliport on race day, along with Twin Squirrels. Her Red 03 touches down on Pad 3 while I take a short break between controlling duties in the tower. 548 movements on raceday wasn't too shabby by modern standards, especially as we lost almost 2hrs due to the weather in the morning.

Another experiment for a tabletop setup, this time using a large almost black tile as the reflective surface - thanks to Jon Downs for the loan of it! I haven't quite figured out how to make the tile look white as Jon has in so many pictures without washing out the tomato, but I suspect this is more a failing of me and my Photoshop skills rather than anything. I do however like the effect this gives, a bit more processing and this could be even better.
Scored 17/20 in the Still Life/Table-Top competition for the Club.

The view from the other end of the Central Hall, again from an angle due to the amount of people. Darwin sits at the far end of the hall and the dinosaur is beneath the bridge. Another HDR shot to bring out as much detail as possible in this fascinating old building.

This is the Cinderella Water Fountain in Fantasyland, just another of the little details that are so easy to overlook. The water fountains are all low down so you kneel before the princess while taking a drink. Lovely blue skies to get an up-close shadow of Cinderella with a bokeh background.

Swanbourne Station has been silent since 1968, little changed since the last train passed through and the station house is now privately owned. The platforms are now grassy but the track through the old station is remarkably intact - albeit unsuitable for a train these days. Only one of the two lines remains here, and this will soon be relaid as the Bletchley to Oxford line is planned to reopen in 2019. There will be no Swanbourne Station though, and talking to the residents there it appears the platforms will disappear too - I didn't ask about the house.

Megan loved the swimming pool again this holiday, and was especially miffed when we couldn't use if for a few days. Float suit? Meh. She didn't bother with any of that and spent all her time swimming and diving in the water having a great time.

A CJ1 with winglets? Yep! www.tamarackaero.com have developed active winglets for the CJ series and in June 2013 set a record for the longest flight in a CJ1 flying non-stop from Idaho to White Plains, NY in 6h 16mins - a distance of 1,853nm. Normal range of a CJ1 is around 1400nm. Impressive!

Dad has been working on his model railway now for 2-3 years, and it is starting to look rather good. Will definitely be looking at getting some more shots when the lights are finished and the scenery, especially around the station area.

They say never work with children or animals - the studio has now been visited by both. Meet Spencer, a 12 week old black labrador/golden retriever cross who is already in training to be a guide dog. Apart from the moulting and the fact he kept sliding down on the backdrop he was a brilliant model.

An EC225 Super Puma was the biggest arrival of the day at the Ryder Cup heliport, visiting twice to drop off and collect his load of golf fans for the first proper day of the Ryder Cup. Dust and straw is kicked up as this huge machine settles down onto the pad as the sun settles lower into the evening sky ahead of him.

The plan was to shoot a fitness model with a dark lighting setup in a variety of poses. Cody was our model and looked awesome and made the whole evening work - to the point that so many people wanted to shoot her that I didn't get much time...a one-to-one booking next time methinks!

In the past two years I've shot the Campbell Park Fireworks over Xscape and from the park itself. This year I went to the bottom of the park and to the eastern end of Willen Lake. There may be an element of photoshopping to this as the fireworks all overlapped a bit more than expected but the result wasn't bad - specially with the Theatre and the Fair visible as well. Fortunately the rain didn't spoil the shot either!

I've revisited the Coke cans shot in preparation for next months "Patterns" competition. The ring pulls are now all facing north, and I tried shooting using just the modeling lights in the softboxes with white reflectors either side to make the light more even. The open can istwisted through 90ยบ to break the pattern further. I like this one more. MUCH more.
