The semi-underground tunnel from the terminal to the car park. Sadly we were stopped from photographing in here by an old man with a baton. He seemed friendly enough, but we weren't going to argue with a security guard within 30mins of arriving in country...!

Lucky enough to be given permission to wander the newly-redeveloped Headington Campus of Oxford Brookes University, and this is one of the most striking parts within the main John Henry Brookes Building.
Resounding is designed by Annie Cattrell and is suspended in the atrium, surrounded by the library on several floors. The sculpture is made up of over 300 coloured droplets suspended by 425 cables. At some angles the installation is almost invisible, at other angles it is a striking piece of work.

The big new skyscrapers dominate the foreground as we look north over the Thames. Traffic is heavy on London Bridge, even late into the evening. It's a view that is hard to turn away from, but this kind of view is all around from The Shard.

A decent shot of the Spinnaker Tower has eluded me for some time, this night-time shot seen across the port isn't bad but the coppy water didn't smooth out or provide the reflections I'd hoped for - breezy conditions from the approaching thunderstorms made it less than ideal, and also meant I didn't want to hang around forever!

Haven't played with flash for ages, and winter is coming - so bribed Megan and went along at sunset to Caldecotte Lake with a light stand, softbox and speedlight to see what we could get before she got bored. Also borrowed an 85mm f/1.8 lens from a friend to try, mmmm look at the bokeh!

John Goldsworthy was kind enough to be our model at BCC for a spot of low key moody portraiture, topped off with his cool hat and intense stare. Strip softbox camera left almost alongside John, and a snoot behind John and high pointing down. Very quick shot - I only got 6 - in between other members having their turn with John!

The ornate staircase in Usher Hall, Edinburgh - a whir of stairs with a shaft of light from the roof to almost the basement floor, great colours down the whole staircase and a big thanks to Usher Hall staff for being so accommodating on my rapid visit through Edinburgh!

Woefully behind on uploads to Flickr lately, so catching up over the next few days with a series of posts. First up are my favourite images from an impromptu shoot with the sublime Sinopa Rin on the South Coast. Had a great location with a balcony overlooking a cricket stadium, would have been a shame to waste the opportunity!

The Shard is still the dominant building on the London skyline, especially when viewed from the Sky Garden atop 20 Fenchurch Street, or the Walkie Talkie Building as its more popularly known. Shot through thick glass on the viewing platform and edited to enhance the tones of the setting sun slightly, with a 35mm prime lens.
The amount of detail in the shot at full size is absolutely incredible (although compared with Lightroom Flickr may have done some sharpening/compressing I do not entirely approve of) - I've uploaded this at full-size so you can zoom in and poke around if you want. This new Z7 has some potential methinks...

Centenary Square is just about finished now (except the road which is becoming a tramway by the looks of it) and is on the whole a rather pleasant and welcoming place, with the Library of Birmingham in the background and the water feature it looks great!

This is probably my favourite shot of Imogen taken during the weekend workshop on natural light with Imogen and Mark (www.flickr.com/photos/peopleofplatt) in a narrow alleyway with the walls of Bow Church as a backdrop, years of grunge darkening the walls. Lots of locations, lots of good points and a superb friendly model, tutor and fellow toggers making the day fly by.
Lighting was a simple white reflector to bounce the available light from above onto Imogen's face. Amazed how much light I could get on a cold, dreary day to be honest!
Editing was also pretty simple, all done in Lightroom. Some minor adjustments for exposure, highlights and shadows and a radial filter to reduce the brightness around Imogen and to pop her even more from the background. Tiny bit of noise reduction (image was only at 800 ISO so not much needed) and some heavily masked sharpening before applying a VSCO Kodak E100VS- filter for a film effect.

The light streams through the windows on the northern end of the Magdelen College cloisters. The corridors are quiet as the College isn't fully back in business yet after the Summer break.
Tricky shot this - no wide-angle lens so two shots (left and right corridors separately shot as HDR) blended in Photoshop. Plus a variety of maintenance works cropped out of one of the corridors!

Back in London again last night with the lovely Emily for my second Natural Light Workshop with members of my camera club. We explored the Kings Cross/St Pancras/Granary Square area once more but venturing into the Barbican was new and provided some great locations as the sun set.

Almost halfway back through the Blisworth Tunnel from Stoke Bruerne northbound. Got some funny looks when I said I'd like to try some photography in the tunnel - I actually meant really at the tunnel entrance/exit, but the light from the front of the boat made for some interesting reflections.
