It looks like she's facing the wrong way, but at this spot, there's no wrong direction to point a camera. Behind her is Yosemite Falls. In front is Sentinel Dome, to her right is El Capitan and to her left is Half Dome.

Spotted on the 3rd day of the BIG RIB BBQ and Blues 'fest. Nine days after Independence Day celebrations and he looked a little miffed that none of the Blues bands were playing Yankee Doodle Dandy...
I'm posting this as a record of the first time I've photographed the wrong bird!
Still at Mt Tomah Botanical Gardens, I was following a pair of relatively confiding whipbirds that were teasing in and out of shadowed and protected trees. Unfortunately they were keeping between me and the sun so the views weren't great. When one popped out onto a branch I took a few photos without looking carefully at the bird that was partly in silhouette. So just now I'm surprised to see it was actually a Red-whiskered Bulbul! In my defence they do have the same basic shape and both have a crest, though normally you'd be hard pressed to confuse the two.
(The Bulbul is an exotic Asian bird that has was introduced and settled in Sydney and seems to be expanding from there. Mt Tomah is perhaps 70km as the crow flies from central Sydney).
This morning I underwent corrective surgery for a deviated septum. It went well without complications and I was in and out in about 2 hrs. The pain, however, was intense and I wanted to take some glitchographs visualizing how I was feeling.
This is why I love glitch art panorama photography. It doesn't just freeze moments in time, but rather captures the nuances of the moment. The motion of my hand, changes in perspective, lighting shifts. Its more video than photography.

The painting is a well-known Vermeer painting called 'the guitar player'. She is holding a baroque guitar, which is in fact an ancestor of the modern guitar.
I stupidly decided that it wouldn't be too dewy to walk to work in my regular sneakers, so I headed out without my waterproof shoes. Big mistake! Not only was there enough dew to drench me, but it was friggin' cold, too.

3299. Seen here is a high speed emergency landing and barrier engagement of a Fairey Gannet on HMAS MELBOURNE [II], with even more drama in play than is immediately apparent.
Kim Dunstan, who has acquired this photo from a former RAN crewmate, says it is one of the rare occasions when the crash barrier was used to stop a Fairey Gannet which had got into trouble. The Gannet was a trusty aircraft, Kim adds, but in any military situation where aircraft and pilots are tested to the limit there will be emergencies and mishaps. And, the flight deck could be a dangerous place for the unwary.
Gannet 860's problems began almost as soon as she was catapulted off the carrier, with the pilot almost immediately reporting an engine malfunction, and asking for an emergency landing - which was granted.
The next question was what to do about the 16 x 60 lb air-to-surface rockets loaded under the plane's wings. Permission was sought to fire them away prior to landing, which was again granted - and the rockets were fired off as a salvo.
Unfortunately this blew the aircraft's flaps off, as they were still locked in the takeoff position. The result was the aircraft had to land at high speed without flaps.
In this unusual case the crash barrier was used for a safe ‘assisted landing.’ Fortunately none of the crew suffered injury, but danger lurks in unexpected places. As can be seen in the photograph several strands of the crash barrier were shredded by the propellers - with one piece hitting a young fireman standing at the ready just out of view. This random piece of webbing struck him on the side of the face with such force that it knocked him out, leaving him with a black eye and swollen face for a week afterwards.
