Claimed to be the only such kitchen work table in existence, certainly in any National Trust property. With the Dunster Castle Victorian kitchen simply abandoned it is very empty, but also has some interesting items in it that may well have been lost if the kitchen had every been refurbished.
This table is for food preparation at the near end and is a hotplate served by steam pipes (see separate photo in this album) from a dedicated fire and boilers.

the cutting table/worktable is all assembled. I made it with 2 storage units from Leow's and a table top from IKEA. Perfect!

On the worktable sits a new type of rug in process. Viviana mentions that she has to change the thread for each color section, which is why this rug will take her about a week longer than normal.

this card is a RIOT of color...but i still kind of like it! the main image is from an anahata katkin clipart book (sadly she no longer sells them!) to which i added a rub on, a butterfly, a LOT of bling, and...well pretty much everything that was on my worktable at the time, i guess! :)

A few people have asked me about the space I use for sewing, so here it is. Worktable is IKEA kitchen cabinets. All my tools, patterns, mail and packaging supplies, fabric and sewing supplies, and current projects are here. Blogged
its a mess, I have very limited space. All my pieces are made in my little one-room occupancy hotel room. It is a bout 250 sq ft. Plus I have all this reed and stuff for the basket weaving too - quite a mess.
I have sewing and embroidery thread stashed under my worktable. I have a counter-height Koala workstation, courtesy of my husband.
Drill at the intersecting points. Before drilling, make sure to clamp the board tightly on the worktable and have another person hold the board in place and also use the protective goggles to protect your eyes.

I designed a cabinet to be a combined storage and workspace for the AV team (of which I am a part) at the local UU (Unitarian Universalist) Fellowship. Zale and I built it together.
It was very satisfying to see something go from an idea in my head to a real functioning thing. And it was fun to work so closely with Zale on it.

Built from reclaimed marble, recovered by reuse action (reuseaction.com) from a lavatory renovation in one of the Buffalo Public Schools. It was a stall partition, so a close inspection shows who loved who, and all sorts of school age nonsense scratched into the marble. We cut it down to size for the customer and left the markings in the marble as part of its charm. The legs, undercarriage and mounting brackets are all made of reclaimed house trim. The marble installed originally in the 1920s, most likely by Italian immigrant craftsmen. In this city the old wood work was done by Poles and Germans, while the stone work was done by the Italians. crafts they brought from their home countries. Without rescuing this material it (and its heritage) would be in the landfill.
Each piece we build is unique and imbued with history...and keeping materials out of landfills.
I was tack-sewing the body of my latest big rando bag this afternoon, and when I reached the end of a seam I stopped the machine and was about to lift the presser foot when the light fixture went pop! and the light bulb shot out as if launched from a 120V cannon.
It looks like one of the wire inlets eroded through and when the air rushed in the filament exploded, snapping the bulb off and launching it onto the worktable.
I hope I can find a nice LED light bulb as a replacement.
