Those little red coffee grinders came from "The World of Interiors" magazine. And there's part of an old newspaper clipping Norma Lydon gave me. The circle is from old money and the little 1920's cars, from an old postcard. All this probably lying around on the worktable.

Getting power to the Van Norman was a bit of a trick - because the machine backs onto an island worktable, there's no easy way to run conduit to it. Usually you'd drop power down from the ceiling, but we turn the forklift around in close quarters by lifting the forks up above the machinery, and the last thing we wanted was a five hundred volt "oops". Conduit on the floor would be a trip hazard, so I came up with this as a solution - the wiring runs in a channel along the edge of the CNC machine's baseplate.

I decided to go with the gladiator cabinets with storage rails. I can also hang tools on that rail system. It should work out pretty cool

Designed by Tom and specially built by our contractor to compliment our recent kitchen remodel. I like to think that it combines a traditional look with cleaner, modern lines.
Less chaotic. A side worktable for looking through books; will see if I can do scribal on it but it may be too low. Metal cabinet is 1/2 filled; need to sort through some papers and such. The two boxes on the floor are full of stuff to be shredded (minus the metal case, of course)

I had to clean up my sewing room in a hurry the other day and my biggest issue was what to do with all the little bits and pieces of papers and cloth, ribbons, lace - scraps and snippets from previous work that were too useful to throw away but not really big enough to go back into "stock". Over time I had amassed quite a tidy pile, and in addition to that was a small wooden bowl filled with snipped off ends of silk ribbon, bits of thread, buttons, beads, and all manner of little findings - again, things from previous projects that didn't get used after all, and never found their way back to where they belonged.
As we are away for a week or so - (Our daughter just had a baby boy, our first grand-child!) I wanted something to work on in the quiet times... in a moment somewhere between inspiration and desperation, I decided I would bring all of it, and would make whatever I could with it, hence "Worktable Challenge". Last night I stitched these paper scraps together, and next I will dig into the bits and bobs for things to embellish it with. I expect it will be a page for one of my Artist's Books but for now I'm just enjoying working on it with no definite plan for what I'll do with it.
When I layered the papers to prick the holes I was concerned about them slipping whilst trying to stitch them together, and I discovered if I left the pricking pin in the last hole it was very effective at keeping things aligned as I stitched and the needle found the holes very easily.
(The painted paper was saved from a wedding invitation we received from a nephew a few years ago.)
