Built from reclaimed marble, recovered by reuse action (reuseaction.com) from a lavatory renovation in one of the Buffalo Public Schools. It was a stall partition, so a close inspection shows who loved who, and all sorts of school age nonsense scratched into the marble. We cut it down to size for the customer and left the markings in the marble as part of its charm. The legs, undercarriage and mounting brackets are all made of reclaimed house trim. The marble installed originally in the 1920s, most likely by Italian immigrant craftsmen. In this city the old wood work was done by Poles and Germans, while the stone work was done by the Italians. crafts they brought from their home countries. Without rescuing this material it (and its heritage) would be in the landfill.
Each piece we build is unique and imbued with history...and keeping materials out of landfills.
For a few weeks now, I've had a bunch of cut out dresses and outfits on my worktable and had not gotten around to them. A little late .. but better late than never.. ;) The charming snowman in the picture is by my hubby (dappergourd)

This photograph shows the hands of a sculptor working on the scientific and artistic reconstruction of a Neanderthal hand in modelling clay. Two other hand models rest on the worktable, illustrating the research process and comparative analysis. Images of hand skeletons on the wall in the background emphasise the anatomical references and scientific foundation of the work. The image focuses on the hand as an object of scientific study at the intersection of evolution, anatomy and artistic interpretation. The research project examines the relationship between the hands of fossil hominins and the tools they used.
Jury's commentary │ This skilful mise en abyme – hands shaping another in the presence of sketches and finished models – highlights the importance of craftsmanship in anthropology, conveyed through masterful composition, sophisticated lighting and a warm tone.

I always calibrate my tools before I make any patterns or cut anything. Unfortunately, the measuring tape on the top is off like 1/16", which means in the long run, you would get like 1/4" more as you go by. Very annoying. I threw it out.

Trelex Residency Paris
"This photo, taken from my worktable in Paris (during my residency at Trelex Foundation) makes vivid the solitude and peace (as well as the easy access to nurturing stimulation!) which are so vitally necessary. The notebook I was asked contribute to an archive at the University of Auckland is seen here, open to the blank page--that terrible and wonderful invitation, that great challenge. The opportunity to confront that space of possibility unites writers and scholars at every level, and I will keep this image in my heart as I return to my teaching and mentoring. We all start from and return to this (alone): nothing. This image reminds me to honor that space—and I post it here as a souvenir, to say that I am grateful to have had this tremendously productive and nourishing sabbatical."
