I happened to be passing through Winnemucca, Nevada during their Music and Murals festival, 2025. I was disappointed that I was unable to stay until this piece was finished. I also was able to find a sign or any indication of attribution.
Running like the Lord Almighty intended, IERR 5255 heads north to its base in Cottage Grove, IN with a train of chemical tankers from Nease in Fernald, OH. Here the train is passing by a cut of stored tankers at Shandon, one of the few passing sidings left on the former C&O Cincinnati Division.
In the top left lies the remains of a long abandoned roadbed to the Fernald Feed Materials Production Center, a uranium processing and enrichment plant in support of national defense. It also housed pits and silos to store the mass quantities of radioactive waste left over from the Manhattan Project.
In 1989, production stopped at the site, and was later added to the US EPA National Priorities List. In 1992, work began to clean up the toxic soil and water. Any contaminates which couldn't be handled on site were shipped off site via "dirty dirt" trains, handled via original owner, CSX. Cleanup was completed in late 2006 at a cost of $4.4 billion dollars, making it one of the most expensive superfund cleanups in US history. However, ground water testing and pumping continues to this day, with an end date likely sometime in the late 2030's or 2040's. Today, the site is a nature preserve.

I have my own business. I work often with banks and real estate companies. This day I was asked for a very special favor and house sit. The couple was moving and the movers were coming in and couple could not be there. They wanted someone to keep eye on the movers as house was loaded with extremely expensive items. I sat in chair for a few days as they packed up and moved belongings out. This is the main entrance. One angle of what you see. These stairs are custom. One piece of wood makes the curve. The doorway you see there was the library and every wall was stocked with books. Incredible home in Rosedale Toronto, Ontario
