getting packed up for a shoot ... had all the equipment ready when i glanced over and saw this. quick swap of the lenses, and here you go.

they hate it down here ... almost as much as they hate each other. ;)

they're still like this now ...

This is the last one I will post from Doortje (or any other dog) for now, I promise.

But even then you may never know which dog I come across on the street......

Poor little Barclay. He gets blamed for all the messes and destruction in the house even though he really didn't do it. The poor little guy found Pearl, the cat, messing with my stuff and had to let me know he didn't do it. He tried to get Pearl to stop but gave up and came and got me so I could make Pearl stop. I guess Barclay is tired of being blamed for Pearl and Coco's shenanigans!! Look at that sweet face! Does he look like he would mess things up on purpose? I am now wise to the ways of Pearl and Coco!! Good boy Barclay!!

Portrait of 12 year old Dacotah.a German Wirehaired Pointer. I am lucky to have this friendly dog round for a few days. A pure working dog, allthough kind of retired.

The hardworking Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, renowned as the 'supreme gundog,' is known for the harsh, low-shedding coat the breed is named for. Outgoing, eager, and quick-witted, Griffs are incomparable in the field and loving at home.

So then this is my official response to [http://www.flickr.com/photos/76263686@N00/] challenge for 52 weeks for dogs. There were two pictures in last years 52 weeks pool that I love, one by Saskia R and one by ruthless .

I've always wanted to do this with Hina! Ever since she was little I've said she has a Milk Mustache. =P

This was rather difficult, my sister was actually under the table holding the little beast in place while yelling at me that she was getting full of milk! I was cracking up trying to take the picture.

I'm quite horrible at in door shots, lighting and everything else so this challenge sure was helpful. Tips/suggestions are most welcome.

Getting Debbie to walk is a bit of a challenge lately. Toward the end of her pregnancy, when she was whale-shaped she stopped going on walks with us. And I didn't blame her, it really was tough for her to get around. But her litter is three weeks old and she still doesn't want to walk. Its not that she doesn't want to be away from the puppies - she doesn't spend that much time with them, really (feeds and checks up, that's about it). She just doesn't like to walk anymore. I'm hoping that when the weather gets better, she perks up again.

Oh yeah, that's not a lake, that's a puddle ;)

... cuz he worms his way into even the hardest of hearts

taken almost an hour ago ... they're still lying like this.

the one she gets when she's gearing up for a full on bark for me to throw the training dummy.

i'm having to rewire my brain in regards to shooting in snow again ... for matea, overexposure is the only way.

large, if you like

seriously, way more on the blog ... you really gotta go see the rest on the blog ... it's one click ... easy peasy ... really! it's just too much work to be putting them up on flickr too. plus they're larger on the blog.

just too hard to choose just one, they're all pretty funny, but i figured this was the funniest.

we had a blast. AND we almost forgot this week!!! yeah, that busy with crap! but thanks to the group i got some great shots of the wild boy. so thanks, 52 Weekers!

(and holy freakin' sharpening flickr. at least my blog doesn't do that!)

Another of my forever dogs celebrating a birthday, or in situation where we rescue, anniversary that she came to live with us.

Ugh... Fiona has so much potential to be a perfect dog, but has this thing where if she is off a leash she will just run away as fast as possible. This thwarted our attempts at finding her forever home 4 years ago when she came to us as a pregnant mom dog.

Fortunately she is build like a cow, so I was (barely) able to chase her down and take some pictures.

not to be confused with squirrel patrol ... a much more serious appointment.

Sporting Group: With his sporty weatherproof coat and can-do attitude, the noble German Wirehaired Pointer is a versatile, sturdy gundog who thrives on outdoor activity. Around the house, the GWP is an eager, affectionate, and amusing family companion. Standing as high as 26 inches at the shoulder, GWPs are a bit taller and heavier than their close relative, the German Shorthaired Pointer. GWPs are balanced, well muscled, resilient, agile, and generally built to beat the bushes all day long without tiring.

I'm doing some construction in my house and my workers brought Rosie a toy this morning. They love her and she loves them. She was so happy. It's all fun and games until someone rips the seam open. LOL. Here Rosie is getting a talking to about what happens when she's too rough with her toys. All the stuffing from the bottom of this toy is strewn all over the den. She seems to be sorry, but she could be playing me.

Meet Rosie. She is a standard wirehaired Wildboar Dachshund. She is 13 weeks old. My new pup and this is the first photo I've taken of her. Here we are in the car on our way home. We are just starting our journey together. I named her after my late mom, Rose. She loved dogs more than anything and she would love that I named my new pup after her.

after trying at least a half a dozen dog boots designed by other people over the years, i finally resorted to designing my own for morley last year when the snow balls between his pads were driving him nuts and he started leaving blood on the trails.

after a bout of sharp, crusty snow left matea's paws scraped and bleeding this winter, i knew it was time to think bigger.

i wasn't sure they'd stand up to this girl's abuse but today, after sewing four larger sized morley-boots, i finally tested my design on matea -- the toughest model of all. in the ball-field she powered after her training dummy countless times ... and i mean power! if these boots can stay on my girl, they can stay on ANY dog.

and after all that running, they hadn't even budged!! the secret is not necessarily in the design as much as the choice of material.

so the boots are a hit. they're a pain in the ass to make because the sewing machine doesn't like the rubbery neoprene that i buy, and half of the sewing is by hand...but they are SO worth it.

best boots EVER.

Benni jumped in Sandy's car with Gracie after they played on the soccer field. It was a photo op but Benni would happily have gone on home with Sandy and Gracie.

so ... meet matea mcscruffy, the #1 52 Weeks for Dogs dog ... the first ... the impetus ... the canine-creator of this group, now into its fifth year.

for those of you who aren't that familiar with the group or new here, this group was created when i started my own 52 Weeks of Matea project. within minutes of posting my idea, dozens of flickr friends expressed an interest in doing the same thing with their dogs. ...and so, in the absence of any other kind of group that could answer the requirements for these kinds of photos and this kind of a project, the group was born.

for those who don't already know matea, she is an 11 yr old wirehaired pointer. you can read more about her story here: scruffydogphotography.com/index.php/matea-2/

my biggest challenge this year is going to be re-training my amazing girl. she is one of the most highly trained dogs ever, but she is going deaf ... quickly. in close quarters, no problem ... she's fluent in hand signals. but this is a hunting dog, and requires off-leash exercise and hunting to answer her drive and energy requirements. it's getting to the point where she's barely hearing the spaniel whistle now ... so the years of whistle work are coming to an end. new methods and approaches are required, and much work ahead...

Wirehaired Dachshund

We wanted a Halloween photo of Gracie for Sandy to send to little grandchildren in D.C. The plan was to let Benni and Gracie run on the field until Gracie was tired enough to pose with the green hat and bandana. "The best laid plans of mice and men...."

Gracie wasn't tired, she knocked the hat off and walked on it and rolled until the bandana also came off and then dived into the bushes looking for tennis balls. She is such a bundle of energy and wanted to play, not pose. She is so cute that we laughed and laughed while Benni looked on in amazement. This was my best effort.

Sandy will be seeing this so be kind, please.

Also, Doug, (son) had his planned motorcycle vacation to Vancouver rained and stormed out so is coming down here tomorrow for 4 or 5 days! Woohoo - but I'll be off Flickr for that time. See you later next week!

I'm loving the funky field of view afforded by using wide angle lenses.

this is my answer to this week's 52 Weeks for Dogs challenge.

"balance" ... well, although many of you would look at this photo and wonder where it is that i've answered the week's theme, for those who know me and know how heavy the scruffy dog fall season gets, you'll understand how this photo represents "balance".

the first non-shoot day in five days, i finally got my OWN dogs out for an autumn walk and their OWN photoshoot.

i need more balance like this ... balancing my own pack with the duties of the business of photographing other people's dogs.

so today, i tried to balance things with my pack ... just a little. there should be more of it, of course ... i'm working on that.

don't know what it is about this particular photo, but i can't help laughing every time i look at it.

"I've taught Gracie how NOT to look at the camera; it drives our moms crazy. Gracie is 2 years younger but we teach each other helpful things for dogs to know.

Gracie has taught me it's fun to bark at dogs on the other side of the fence at the soccer field. We're best buddies." by Benni Girl
