Barclay has many costumes to choose from for Halloween. Here he is trying to decide if he wants to be a skeleton for Halloween. He likes he says but maybe something more colorful would be better. Decisions, decisions. A dog has many important things to decide.
Rufus is 3 years old and he came from the SPCA. Strangely, his entire litter was surrendered to the SPCA after his breeder was not allowed to sell the puppies.
Rufus is perfectly healthy so how could this happen?
Well, somehow the puppies turned out to be 1/2 German Shorthaired Pointer and 1/2 German Wirehaired Pointer. Seems the kennel chaperone goofed off that night!
Because the pups were neither one nor t'other breed they weren't worth anything and, therefore, became rescue pups. Rufus' new mama feels pretty lucky about that.
More information about Rufus:
1. The first time they saw him point, at something in the bush, Rufus' confused new parents looked at each other and said, "What's he doing?".
2. With dark spots all over his skin Rufus looks like a Dalmatian when he's wet.

Slovakian Wirehaired Pointer is a dog of moderate strength, working type, but with nobleness in his lines.
The basic color of the coat is called 'grey' and the hair is harsh (hard). He must be fit and able to work on the plain, in the woods and in the water, and especially to work after the shooting, searching and retrieving wounded game. He is obedient and easy to train.
I finally got a Halloween costume on Barclay. He was not impressed at first but when he went outside he had fun running around trying to get it off and being silly. I took a video to. LOL!! He is wondering if he has to go door to door begging for treats dressed like this. I think I'll tell him he can stay home and begged for treats as his real self. LOL!!
This was a great Smile on Saturday theme, "People and Pets", and of course Sandy and Gracie came to mind. I first met Sandy when she was just married and our husbands had been called into active duty at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. We had a crazy year being Californians in the South and in the army - me with baby Kerri and Sandy as a newlywed.
Gracie has been Benni's best friend for quite a few years now and we count ourselves so lucky to have both of them in our lives.

Last week, Rudy became a big brother! That brown thing is a baby dachshund :) Today the baby is 11 days old. Debbie the dachshund gave birth to 8 beautiful little teeny wirehairs! Rudy doesn't get to have much contact with the babies yet, but I've been letting him sniff them occasionally. He's surprisingly gentle, probably because he doesn't seem to think that they're dogs yet ;)
