Photographed from the Tuckerman Ravine Trail, near the Hermit Lake caretaker's cabin. It was a mild but very windy day, too windy for reaching the higher summits. So we hiked into "Tuck's" instead, soaked up some sun, and watched numerous backcountry skiers "earning their turns."

Thank you for visiting!

All routine photo locations become new in my opinion with the new Siemens ALC-42 locomotives hauling the Empire Builder. I have shot plenty of GEs here, but seeing the Siemens locomotives shows a new era for Amtrak and passenger service in Minnesota. A duo consisting of 302 and 310 bring a routine Empire Builder over the Mississippi River lift bridge at Hastings, splitting the searchlights adjacent to the depot. So many interesting details exist at Hastings - my appreciation has grown for this spot over time.

Snow has finally come to Aberdeenshire. I have had a wintry sunrise shot of Bennachie in mind for some time, however this morning's light and intermittent snow showers weren't co-operating. Luckily as the sun rose a pinkish tinge started to appear in the sky. Literally just to the left of the shot there were blue skys and nice white fluffy clouds. It seems that Bennachie attracted the clouds to it.

Twelve inches (30cm) or so of new fresh snow fell on Moose Pass, on the Seward Highway. Warm temperatures made roads quite slick and icy.

Bodden Zingst Müggenburg Germany

Typical harsh and rugged farm land within the Lake District and yet beautiful views all around too. Captured on a very cold winters morning, image taken just after sunrise.

I am really pleased with this image as it's a scene that I wanted to capture for a while, I suppose the only thing missing is a little sunlight over the landscape but hey you can't always have your cake and eat it !

Our wintry mix started with snow, but it had turned to sleet before we awoke. Then rain. No fun to play in. :-(

Quebec City's Chateau Frontenac casts an inviting welcome light on a cold and grey wintry morning in mid-December.

---

“Originally designed as the ideal stopover for railway travellers, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac was built by general manager of Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway William Van Horne in the late 19th century. With the help of New York architect Bruce Price, designer of Montreal's Windsor Station and father of Emily Post, Van Horne drew inspiration from the architectural styles of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2018, is located next to the federal government land of archaeological site Château St. Louis, the original seat of the French government in North America.” (1)

“Designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1980 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the doors officially opened in 1893. Several sections were added later, including the central tower in 1924. Named after Count of Frontenac Louis de Buade, governor of New France 1672–1682 and 1689–1698, the hotel is near the historic Citadelle, Quebec City’s primary military base. Frontenac may not the tallest building around, but its setting on Cap Diamant—177 feet (54 meters) high—offers the most stunning views of the nearby Saint Lawrence River and features prominently in the city’s skyline.

After a series of restorations and a multi-million-dollar renaissance project, 18 floors now contain over 600 rooms. When Queen Elizabeth II is in town, she stays in the Château’s royal suite, also where her parents stayed.” (2)
