I definitely don't accept winter! .-)

"Winter teaches us that even the coldest days can lead to beautiful transformations." - Unknown. While hubby was taking great shots of the waterfall with his wide angle lens, I focused on the transformations along the edges of the waterfall with my long lens. It was a very cold day after a fresh snowfall. Some trees were blanketed in layers of fluffy white snow. Others were encased in frosty ice from the mist of the roaring water flowing down. Then there were the trees that soaked up the morning sun to keep their needles dry. I was toasty warm with my winter gear including my new heated glove liners that work beautifully for this kind of cold weather photography.

Deep freeze hit the Deep South: -8 °C in the morning (17 °F)! Here, a robin perches on a Callery pear tree.

Callery pear trees (Pyrus calleryana) are invasive in the U.S. but the "fruits (which are often assumed to be inedible due to their abundant, cyanide-laced seeds) of the Callery pear are small (less than 3⁄8-inch in diameter, or 1-cm) and hard (almost woody) until softened by frost, after which they are readily eaten by birds, which disperse the seeds in their droppings."

▶ The American robin (Turdus migratorius), on the other hand, is quite at home. Unlike the Callery pear tree, it is native to the U.S.

Winter beech trees, February in the woods.

The winter light has its own beauty. Even as far south as Texas, we have long shadows most of the day as the sun cruises the southern sky. It's a great season for black and white photos with all the shape, contrast, and texture available in the winter light.

Camera: Ansco Panda 620 toy camera, circa 1946. www.flickr.com/photos/194048042@N06/55029033506/in/datepo... 60mm fixed-focus meniscus lens, plenty soft around the edges. I used a trimmed-down 120 roll this time, but from now on I'll respool the 120 onto an old 620 spool. A bit hard to advance the film.

Winter has arrived even to the South of Sweden. Gorgeous colors with this magical orange light that sets just before the night arrives and total darkness.

It's hard when most of the days are dark but we all know that soon the days will be longer again and we can enjoy minute by minute of these longer days.

Until then we have to enjoy these small moments of golden hours.....

Happy Sunday all!

A winter's view of the Swiss alps. I took this photo from the Emmental where the famous cheese with huge holes is coming from. By the way, there is a cheese dairy close to this place where you can watch them making the Emmental cheese.

thats how winter should be ;-))

Pocono Mountains, Pennsylvania

There are a lot of roads up in the mountains. You usually don't notice them because they are not always easy to see. But then it snows. And every dirt road becomes a winter wonderland.

The last shot from this photo-walk across the snow covered fields near my Village Sistrans. My fingers were already completely numb from the cold, when operating the camera. Before I headed back home, I found this nice little sculpture, formed by the snow and wind, wich gave a additional foreground element for this evening winter wonderland.

Two adorable birds in winter hats, cuddling and nestled together on the edge of an intricate nest with snow-covered trees and red berries in the background. The focus is on their faces, in the style of an oil painting with a cartoon mise-en-scène, a fairy core color palette, and a dreamy, hyper-realistic scene with eye-catching detail.

Thanks Bruce.

Winnebago River - Leland

This is our current north Iowa landscape along the Winnebago River. The low sun gives it a warm ambience, but with frozen ice and snow on the river surface.

The afternoon temperatures with sunlight reached about 30 degrees, but the very strong northwest wind of 25 to 35 mph gave it a very chilly feeling to say the least!

Winter Lantern Show "Journey To The East" at its new location at the SIUH Community Park Stadium, Staten Island

A snow storm today, on the last day of winter, created a landscape of winter minimalism.

frozen treescape, zurich

When winter unfurls its icy embrace, the world transforms into a wonderland of ethereal beauty. The landscape, once adorned in the lush hues of autumn, now dons a pristine white coat, as delicate snowflakes blanket the earth like nature's own embroidery. Trees stand adorned with glistening icicles, and the ground sparkles under the soft glow of moonlight. Silence descends, broken only by the crisp crunch of snow underfoot. The air is crisp and clean, carrying the invigorating scent of pine and the promise of new beginnings. Winter, a painter with a frosty palette, transforms the familiar into a realm of enchantment, where each snow-covered branch, each glistening frost-kissed surface, whispers tales of magic and quiet marvels. In this winter wonderland, nature reveals itself as a master storyteller, captivating hearts with its frozen tapestry and inviting all to revel in the breathtaking allure of the season.

Winter and loneliness sometimes go together, don't they? Here is a lonely look from the For-Mar Nature Preserve and Arboretum, Burton, MI, January, 2024.

DoodlewashDecember2025 prompt: Winter Moon, Ornament.

Did you know when the Christmas Tree, as we know it, first became common in the 15 and 16th Century, many people didn’t have access to, or couldn’t afford to buy one, so the first ‘artificial’ trees also became common. People would stack wood into a tree-like shape and decorate it with leaves, fruit, and paper ornaments.
