"The light in winter is most varied; there are days when it's clear and bright, carving the earth into light and shadow like a razor. Yet, at times, the light can be soft and quiet as a whisper, with color of the most intense chromatic variations anyone could ever need."

On a cold overcast winters day it is nice to take advantage of these blooms that have just got the seasons all wrong.
Today was a glorious winter day. Too good to spend time inside, but too cold to stay outside too long. The windchill factor was frrrrrreeeeezing!
Have a good week ahead everyone and thank you all for stopping by :-)
Taken at the lower end of The Lady’s Walk, Montacute on a Winter’s day with sunlight breaking through briefly, a very different result from the photograph taken on a sunny Autumn day at the same place, see flic.kr/p/2hPc4Ti

A whitetail doe dines on one of our juniper shrubs. Tough time of year for them. Amazing what they eat to survive. Their hardiness and toughness is impressive.
Myself, I eat all too well during the winter months…….
Your visits are much appreciated.
One of the waterfalls I made it to last year during our winter freeze. It was one of a couple at the top of my list of places to visit last year. I've got a few different places I'm hoping to hit this year. Hopefully I'll luck out with the work schedule like last year.
This might be my favorite cottonwood tree image I captured on this afternoon stroll through the local park to photograph snow-covered trees. There is something about the structure of the branches and the interplay of soft light that really captured my attention.

Age-old oak covered with frost on a cold January day
This oak was planted in the year 1871 as a token of peace.
In that year the Franco-Prussian War (1870 -1871) was finished.
The tree is known as 'Oak of Freedom'
Die rauhreifbedeckte Friedenseiche an einem kalten Januartag.
Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis), taken in my garden in Derbyshire. I set up the camera on the tripod and used the wireless remote control to take shots as the finches flocked in to feed. This one looked straight into the lense and the low sun behind the camera helped with the lighting although as you can see the iso is still creeping up.
