Today was a glorious winter day. Too good to spend time inside, but too cold to stay outside too long. The windchill factor was frrrrrreeeeezing!
Have a good week ahead everyone and thank you all for stopping by :-)
Taken at the lower end of The Lady’s Walk, Montacute on a Winter’s day with sunlight breaking through briefly, a very different result from the photograph taken on a sunny Autumn day at the same place, see flic.kr/p/2hPc4Ti
I tested a lens combination today as the light is just beautiful, but don't think I will be using that combination again.
7am, Smith Rock State Park, Oregon. I was sitting in the car, frustrated, and it was snowing outside and there was no sign of stopping. I checked the weather when I woke up by the alarm, not sure if I should actually get up and head to the location. I was hoping to get a sunrise but the weather is not quite promising. I still decided to go, only to find that it has been light snow all the way when I was driving there. 7:30am, weather started to change and it was about to sunrise. I geared up and left the car, hiking to the spot I planned. The hike was not difficult, but this is not the typical Smith Rock angel. 7:50am, the snow stopped and sunlight started to show on the rocks, that was hell of a miracle. And I feel so blessed to witness such a magnificent scene. The fresh snow completely change how Smith Rock looks and turned it into a winter wonderland. With sunrise lighting up the rocks , everything was so perfect.
A whitetail doe dines on one of our juniper shrubs. Tough time of year for them. Amazing what they eat to survive. Their hardiness and toughness is impressive.
Myself, I eat all too well during the winter months…….
Your visits are much appreciated.
One of the waterfalls I made it to last year during our winter freeze. It was one of a couple at the top of my list of places to visit last year. I've got a few different places I'm hoping to hit this year. Hopefully I'll luck out with the work schedule like last year.
A true winter delight in the past days. It only took a short hike to the summit of Mt. Jenzig to see winter at its best. Its unusual that the warmer south face of the Muschelkalk formation (shell limestone) is covered by snow while the north faces of these formations are not. I was lucky to witness these subtle pastel like colors as the sun was low before sunset.
A snowy winter forest, shortly after sunrise on a bitterly cold morning in January, somewhere in the Swiss alps.
The Winter Park Express has expanded service, currently running with seven coaches and a sightseer/lounge car. The train is just over 9,000 feet (2,743 meters) above sea level here at East Portal, in the middle of a frozen winter wonderland. The Continental Divide is snow-covered, the peaks in the background are around 13,000 feet (almost 4,000 meters) above sea level. The train just emerged from the Moffat Tunnel, and is running right on time for its journey back to Denver.

This might be my favorite cottonwood tree image I captured on this afternoon stroll through the local park to photograph snow-covered trees. There is something about the structure of the branches and the interplay of soft light that really captured my attention.

Thank you Tram for your giveaway ^^
Late afternoon and the sun was already making plans for the night. Cold wind blowing and the only human out and about was the one behind the camera....

Late afternoon winter sunlight shines through a light haze between tunnels 1 and 2 on Tehachapi as a north bound BNSF intermodal drifts down grade.

Chateau Kromeriz in the winter.
I took this photo last winter with my older camera and for some reason I didn't upload it on Flickr. Today, I have found it, processed it and here it is :)
I´m not really ready for spring and such.
I want snow, and more skiing still.
Getting nostalgic and found this shot from Åre, five years ago.
quite a privilege: to take the bus, drive 15 minutes, getting off the city and recovering inmidst the snowy trees and meadows of Wiesbadens forests
A true winter delight in the past days. It only took a short hike to the summit of Mt. Jenzig to see winter at its best. On the other side of the valley is the old tower called Fuchstum above the broadleaf forest.
